1.The Clinical Study of Chemonucleolys in Herniated Nucleus Pulposus of Lumbar Spine.

Chemonucleolysis with chymopapain has been shown to be an effective alternative to surgery for the treatment of Sciatica secondary to lumbar disc herniation after failure of conservative treatment. 92 lumbar herniated disc patients had been treated by chemonucleolysis in Eul Ji General Hospital during 3 years from March 1988 to 1991 and were evaluated clinically. 1) Of 92 patients, 60 patients(65%) were between 20 and 30 years old age group and male was predominent. 2) The lesion was the most common in L4-5space(52 patients, 56.6%). 3) The results were better in the younger group and the more limited straight leg raising group. 4) The excellent and good results were obtained in 82.6%. 5) In noncompensation cases, 69 patients(88.0%) had marked improvement, but in compensation cases, 7 patients(50%) had marked improvement. 6) In conclusion, above finding suggest that chemonucleolysis is a safe and effective nonsurgical method for treatment of herniated lumbar disc before surgical intervention.

2.A photoelastic study of the stress distribution on the multiloop edgewise arch wire.

This study was designed to investigate the stress distribution, intensity and force mechanism derived from the MEAW by photoelastic stress analysis of the artificial teeth and surrounding bone composed of photoelastic(material/ PL-3 ). The findings of this study were as follows: 1. In case of no elastic on the MEAW with tip back, the moderate stress was observed on the molar and canine area, and the light stress was observed on the other area. 2. In case of the vertical elastic on the plain A.W. and the MEAW without tip back, the great stress was observed on the lateral incisor area, but on the MEAW with tip back, the moderate stress was observed on the anterior area and molar area. 3. In case of the C II elastic on plain A.W., the stress was concentrated on the anterior area hanged by elastic but on the MEAW without tip back, the stress was transmitted equally from the anterior area to the posterior teeth area, On the MEAW with tip back, the great stress was observed on the anterior and molar area. 4. In case of the C III elastic on the plain A.W., the stress was concentrated on the posterior area hanged by elastic but on the MEAW without tip back, the stress was transmitted equally from the posterior area to the anterior area. On the MEAW with tip back, the great stress was observed on the posterior area and the moderate stress was observed on the anterior area.

3.A Case of Dumbbell-Shaped Neurobibroma in Cauda Equina.

A case of neurofibroma in cauda equina which had been misdiagnosed as lumbar herniated nucleus puposus 6 years ago in other hospital was presented. In January 1984, the patient had taken the operation of total laminectomy and disckectomy at L2~3 level and symtoms were relieved thereafter. However severe low back pain and right sciatic radiation recurred in April 1990. In this hospital, lumbar myelography and spin C-T examination revealed the intradural extramedullary mass shadow at L2~3 level. On surgery, the dumbbell-shaped neurofibroma at the site was removed.

4.A Case of Cavernous Hemangioma in the Middle Fossa.

Cavernous hemangioma may occur in any region of the brain and very rarely in the extracerebral middle fossa. We present a case of the cavernous hemangioma in the middle fossa. A 37-year-old male was admitted to our department with visual impairment of the right eye and headache. On admission ophthalmological findings were abducens palsy, mild exophthalmos and almost visual loss in the right eye. Other neurological findings were within normal limits. Radiological findings were erosive change of sellar turcica, sphenoid ridge and petrosal bone in right side and thinning temporal squama bone on the simple skull series. Right carotid angiography showed medial and upward shifting of middle cerebral artery with avascular mass lesion at infrasylvian area. Computed Scan disclosed well localizing homogenous high density in the right middle fossa extending to pituitary fossa medially and to posterior fossa through erosion area of the medial petrosal bone. We performed subtotal removal of tumor because of profuse bleeding and confirmed cavenous hemangioma pathologically.

The Asian Society of Gynecologic Oncology International Workshop 2014 on gynecologic oncology was held in Asan Medical Center, Seoul, Korea on the 23rd to 24th August 2014. A total of 179 participants from 17 countries participated in the workshop, and the up-to-date findings on the management of gynecologic cancers were presented and discussed. This meeting focused on the new trends in the management of cervical cancer, fertility-sparing management of gynecologic cancers, surgical management of gynecologic cancers, and recent advances in translational research on gynecologic cancers.
