AIM: To investigate the effect of Ganoderma lucidum spores powder on the expression of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), nuclear factor-?B (NF-?B) and apoptosis of nerve cells in rats with epilepsy established by pentetrazole. METHODS: The sub-eclampsia dosage of pentetrazole (PTZ) was used to make epilepsy model. Ganoderma lucidum spores powder group was given from stomach. The enduring time and latent period were recorded. The immune reactivity of IGF-1, NF-?B/P65 and apoptosis of nerve cells were measured with immunohistochemical staining and TUNEL method. RESULTS: In high power sight (?400), there were much more apoptosis cells in hippocampus and brain cortex of model group (18.80?2.13, 16.87?2.00) than those in control group (0.97?0.52, 0.58?0.25). The expressions of IGF-1, NF-?B in model group were higher than those in control group. Compared with model group, the latent period of Ganoderma lucidum spores powder group at the 17th, 21th, 25th days were longer (P

Objective To more intuitively understand the quality control for laboratory animals and further achie-ving a more scientific and reasonable management of laboratory animals, the infection index as evaluation criteria was intro-duced. Then the best way to calculate infection index was explored in order to more scientifically reflect the infection status of laboratory animals. Methods Infection index, also called the degree of infection, is a qualitative indicator of monito-ring laboratory animal quality. After arranging, analyzing, processing and gathering the data from laboratory animal quality monitoring, the index reflects synthetically the pathogen infection status or trend of a particularly investigated experimental animal population or the development of certain experimental animals. Results In general, the pathogen infection index of mice was slightly decreased, while the pathogen infection index of rats roughly increased year by year. In comparing infec-tion index by different pathogens, the parasite infection index of mice was found to be higher than bacteria and virus infec-tion indexes, while the bacteria infection index of rats was higher than parasite infection index and virus ones. Conclusions The infection index model intuitively reflects the quality control status of laboratory animals. The analysis also reveals that the parasite monitoring of the mice and the bacteria detection of rat needs to be reinforcement. In addition, the index of infection reveals that the pathogen infection of mice is well under control, while that of rats tends to be more serious year by year.

Objective To compare the differences of bacterial distribution of intestinal flora in Microtus fortis living under laboratory feeding and wild survival conditions. Methods The 16S rDNA-V4-V5 region of bacteria in the ileocecal contents from Microtus fortis raised in lab and captured in wild were measured by high-throughput sequencing. The number of operational taxonomic units(OTUs)were sorted and calculated, and the species abundance and distribution and difference were analyzed. Results The rarefaction curves indicated that adequate sampling was achieved. At the phylum level, the distribution of intestinal flora between two groups was similar. The experimental group had a unique phylum, Lentisphaerae. The wild type group had 3 unique phylums,Fusobacteria,Thaumarchaeota and an unclassified phylum. At the genus level, the kind of intestinal flora in the wild type group was more abundant than the experimental group. Ruminococcus is the largest differential genus. Conclusions The microbial community structure and differences of Microtus fortis living under different conditions are obtained. It may further enrich the basic biology data of Microtus fortis.

Objective:To explore the clinical effect of the V-Y plasty of musculocutaneous flap in repairing the excessive width of inner canthus deformity. Methods:Retrospective analysis was performed between July 2018 and June 2021 in patients treated with this method. V-Y design along the inner corner of the eye before operation. The key points of operation are the elevated under the orbicularis oculi muscle. The skin orbicularis oculi muscle flaps are formed on both sides of the incision. After the V-Y of the outside myocutaneous flap is advanced and formed at the new medial canthus point, the V-Y of the orbicularis oculi muscle and the skin are sutured in layers. The degree of reduction of the inner canthus width, epicanthal fold shape, incision scarring, and patient satisfaction was followed up. All patients were measured at the preoperative and postoperative review to record data of the intercanthal distance, and used paired t-test for statistical analysis. P<0.05 was statistically significant. Results:83 patients, including 81 female patients and 2 males, with an average age of 28 years (19 to 56 years) were followed up from 3 months to 2 years, with an average of 1 year. The overexposure of the tear caruncle was significantly reduced, the asymmetry of the bilateral inner corners has been improved, the shape of the epicanthal folds reverted to its natural appearance and the old scars became inconspicuous; patient satisfaction evaluation: very satisfied 34.94% (29/83), satisfied 54.22% (45/83), relatively dissatisfied 6.02% (5/83), dissatisfied 4.82% (4/83). Among the 4 cases of dissatisfaction, 2 cases were due to insufficient correction and were re-operated to obtain satisfactory result, 1 case was improved by reoperating due to excessive correction which led to the reduction of inner canthal distance, 1 case regrets surgery the next day after surgery and cannot accept the appearance and strongly requires removal and restoration. The distance between intercanthal distance of the patients was 28.8 mm to 38.0 mm, average (33.58±3.34) mm before the operation, and 32.2 mm to 41.5 mm, average (37.47±2.90) mm after the operation, an average increase of 3.89 mm ( t=-15.78, P<0.001) after the operation. Conclusions:The V-Y plasty of musculocutaneous flap is suitable for the repair of excessive width of inner canthus deformity after epicanthoplasty. The design idea is simple, the postoperative effect is reliable, and the postoperative satisfaction rate of patients is high.

Objective:To investigate the relationship between parathyroid hormone(PTH) level and permanent hypoparathyroidism(PHPP) on the first day after radical papillary thyroidectomy, and its predictive value. Methods:A total of 80 patients with papillary thyroid cancer who underwent total thyroid resection and central lymph node dissection were collected and analyzed from January 2021 to January 2022. According to whether PHPP occurred after surgery, the patients were divided into hypoparathyroidism group and normal parathyroid function group, and univariate and binary logistics regression were used to analyze the correlation between PTH and serum calcium levels and PHPP on the first day after surgery in two groups. The dynamic changes of PTH at different time points after operation were analyzed. The area under the receiver operating characteristic was used to evaluate the predictive power of PTH on the development of PHPP after surgery. Results:Among the 80 patients with papillary thyroid cancer, 10 cases developed PHPP, with an incidence rate of 12.5%. Binary logistics regression analysis showed that PTH on the first postoperative day(OR=14.534, 95%CI: 2.377-88.858, P=0.004) was an independent predictive risk factor for postoperative PHPP. Taking PTH=8.75 ng/L on the first postoperative day as the cut-off value, the AUC of the area under the curve was 0.874(95%CI: 0.790-0.958, P<0.001), the sensitivity was 71.4%, the specificity was 100%, and the Yoden index was 0.714. Conclusion:PTH level on the first day after total thyroid papillary carcinoma surgery is closely related to PHPP, and is an independent predictor of PHPP.
