Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of scalp acupuncture plus body acupuncture in treating diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (D-IBS). Method Totally 122 D-IBS patients were randomized into a scalp acupuncture group (41 cases), a body acupuncture group (41 cases), and a combined group (40 cases). The scalp acupuncture group was intervened by acupuncture at the Stomach and Intestine Zones on the head; the body acupuncture group was by ordinary body acupuncture; the combined group was by both scalp acupuncture and body acupuncture. The symptom score of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) was evaluated prior to the treatment, at the end of the first and second treatment courses, and after the whole intervention; the clinical efficacies were also compared among the three groups. Result The symptom scores of the combined group were significantly lower than that of the scalp acupuncture group and body acupuncture group respectively at the end of the second treatment course and after the whole intervention (P<0.05); after the whole intervention, the cured and markedly-effective rate was 62.5% in the combined group, significantly higher than 24.4% in the scalp acupuncture group and 29.3% in the body acupuncture group (P<0.05). Conclusion Scalp acupuncture plus body acupuncture can produce a satisfactory clinical efficacy in treating D-IBS, better than body acupuncture or scalp acupuncture alone; its advantages include rapid onset of action, significant effect, and reducing intestinal inflammation, etc.

Plasma concentrations of immunoreactivc beta-endorphin in patients with NIDDM were measured by radioimmuno-assay. It was found that the plasma beta-endorphin levels decreased in 68 cases of NIDDM especially in those with long duration of illness and chronic complication. These results suggested that beta-endorphin may be related to diabetes and its chronic complication.

Objective To observe the effect of immunity condition and clinical manifestations of children with recurrent oral-ulcer(ROU)treated with aciclovir(ACV) and a-polyresistin.Methods Forty-eight patients with ROU were randomly divided into whole treated group(25 cases)and partial treatment group(23 cases).The changes of their peripheral blood lymphocyte subgroups,before and after treatment,were measured and contrasted to analyze the relationship with curative effect.Results The ratios of CD3,CD4,and CD4/CD8,after the treatment,increased obviously,while CD8 lowered obviously in treatment group(P0.05).The total clinical efficacy rate was 47.82%,moreover the patients were recurrent after 1 year.Conclusions ACV and a-polyresistin,through antivirus and regulating the immunity function get the 96% total clinical efficacy rate,and that controle the recurrent rate.It is superior to the traditional method.

In recent years, the incidence and mortality rate of invasive fungal infection have increased dramatically, and it is of great significance to develop novel antifungal agents with new chemical structure and new mode of action. In this review, novel antifungal lead compounds reported from 2007 to 2009 are reviewed. Moreover, their chemical structures, antifungal activities and structure-activity relationships have been summarized, which can provide useful information for future study of antifungal agents.

Objective This study examined the effects of Midazolum-ketamine oral solution (MKOS) on the expression of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor 1 (NMDAR1) and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)A receptors (GABAAR) mRNA in the cerebral cortex of rat, in order to investigate the sedation mechanism of MKOS. Methods Fifty Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats were divided into ten groups according to the observed time after MKOS administration (0,5,10, 15,30,60,90,120,240 and 360 minutes, n =5 each). The 0 minute group(control group) received 0.9% saline instead. Immunohistochemical staining and in situ hybridization were used to detect the expressions of NMDAR1 and GABAAR mRNA in the cerebral cortex. Results Both GABAAR and NMDAR1 all expressed in the glial cells of cerebral cortex. The expression of NMDAR1 in control group was strong. The expression of NMDAR1 became weaker during 15 to 90 minutes after administration of MKOS (P＜0.05). The expression of GABAAR mRNA in control group was weaker,while became stronger during 30 to 90 minutes after administration of MKOS (P ＜0. 05). Conclusion MKOS may play sedation by strengthening the expression of GABAAR and suppressing the expression of NMDAR1 in the cerebral cortex.

Objective This study intends to evaluate different acoustic windows that can be used to obtain the midsagittal plane of fetal brain during abdominal ultrasound scanning and the application of acoustic windows in practice.Methods The midsagittal planes were obtained respectively through anterior fontanel,posterior fontanel,sagittal suture and forehead seam of 12 aborted fetuses,and feasible acoustic windows were used as standard acoustic windows to obtain midsagittal planes of second trimester screening fetuses,which were divided into two groups according to the position of fetal brain,cephalic presentation group (367 cases) and non-cephalic presentation group (384 cases).The success rates were compared between groups.Results Of the second trimester fetuses,497 midsagittal planes of 751 cases were successfully obtained.The success rate of the cephalic presentation fetuses (32.7％,120/367) was statistically lower than that of the non-cephalic presentation fetuses (98.2％,377/384,P ＜ 0.01).Of the cephalic presentation fetuses,the combined acoustic windows acquisition success rate of the forehead,anterior fontanelle,sagittal suture and posterior fontanel acoustic window was 32.7％ (32.7％,120/367),significantly higher than the single acquisition success rate of the forehead,anterior fontanelle,sagittal suture and posterior fontanel acoustic window (17.2％,25.9％,1.6％ and 7.6％,all P ＜ 0.01).Of the non-cephalic presentation fetuses,the combined acoustic windows acquisition success rate of the forehead,sagittal suture and posterior fontanel acoustic window was 98.2％ (98.2％,377/384),significantly higher than the single acquisition success rate of the forehead,anterior fontanelle,sagittal suture and posterior fontanel acoustic window (31.8％,61.2％,64.8％ and 62.0％,all P ＜ 0.01).Conclusions The midsagittal plane of fetal brain can be obtained through forehead seam,anterior fontanel,posterior fontanel and sagittal suture acoustic windows in transabdominal screening.The combination of four acoustic windows can increase the success rate of obtaining midsagittal planes.

Objective NAG6, NAG 7 and BRD7 genes were novel tumor related genes identified recently. This study was designed to examine the expression of these genes in gastric cancer and matched paracancerous tissues and to investigate their roles in the occurrence and development of gastric carcinoma. Methods The expression levels of NAG6, NAG 7 and BRD7 in 34 cases of human gastric cancer and matched paracancerous tissues were analyzed by RT PCR, Northern blot analysis and Dot hybridization. Results The expression of NAG6 was absent in 61.8% gastric cancer tissues(21/34). The expression of NAG6 was significantly down regulated in gastric cancer tissues compared with that in paracancerous tissues ( P 0.05 ). The expression rates of NAG 7 in gastric cancer and paracancerous tissues were 88.2% (30/34) and 82.3% (28/34) respectively. BRD7 was expressed in all gastric cancers and matched paracancerous tissues. The results of RT PCR, Northern blot analysis and Dot hybridization all showed that the expressions of NAG 7 and BRD7 did not display any difference between gastric cancer and matched paracancerous tissues. Meanwhile, Dot hybridization also confirmed that NAG6 was significantly down expressed in gastric cancer. Conclusions NAG6 gene was significantly down regulated in gastric cancer tissues. The down regulation of this gene may play a key role in occurrence and development of gastric cancer, however it may be not associated with lymph node or distance metastasis. The expression levels of NAG 7 and BRD7 were not altered in gastric cancer. It seems that NAG 7 and BRD7 gene may not contribute to the occurrence and development of gastric carcinoma.
