Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the endovascular interventional minimally invasive techniques(IMIT)for treatment of carotid artery iniury. Methods A total of 111 cases of carotid artery injury diagnosed by digital subtraction angiography(DSA)were treated with IMIT.Except for 1 case of extracranial segment injury of internal carotid artery treated with transcatheter stentgraft placement to obturate the rupture of carotid artery, the other 110 cases of intracranial segment injury of internal carotid artery(ICA)were treated with embolization with balloons in 73,embolization with coils in 12,injection of NBCA and PVA in 6,stent-graft placement in 11 and embolization with multiple materials in 8. Results Angiography demonstrated rupture of extracranial segment of internal carotid artery and arteriovenous fistula(AVF)at the neck in 1 case, traumatic carotid cavernous fistula(TCCF)in 83.traumatic pseudoaneurysm at intracranial segment of carotid artery in 14 and both TCCF and pseudoaneurysm in 13.The interventional treatment succeeded in all cases and interual carotid arteries were well protected in 62 cases.Completion angiography documented complete obliteration of the fistulas, with complete disappearance of the clinical symptoms in 110 cases and improvement in 1.Minor complications occurred in 2 cases, without death occurred.During the follow-up for 1-14 months,16 cases reexamined with DSA,which showed that the symptoms of 3 cases reoccurred,2 of whom were cured by re-embolization and 1 was under clinical observation. Conclusions IMIT including transcatheter selective embolization and stent-graft implantation is minimally invasive, safe and effective for treatment of carotid artery injury.

OBJECTIVETo study clinical effects of short-segment fixation and injured vertebra bone grafting through injured pedicle for the treatment of thoracolumbar burst fractures under MAST Quadrant retractor via a paraspinal muscle approach.
METHODSThe data of 42 patients with thoracolumbar burst fractures treated from June 2009 to September 2012 were reviewed. There were 19 males and 23 females, with an average age of (55.2±11.9) years old. The mean injury time was (5.8±4.3) days. Fracture segments included T10 in 3 cases, T11 in 6 cases, T12 in 13 cases, L1 in 9 cases, L2 in 7 cases, and L3 in 4 cases. According to Denis classification, 9 patients were type A, 21 patients were type B, 5 patiens were type C, 5 patients were type D, and 2 patients were type E. All the patients were treated with short-segment pedicle screw-rod system fixation under MAST Quadrant via the paraspinal muscle approach. The operative time, blood loss, complications and the height of vertebra, kyphosis Cobb angle, VAS scores, JOA scores were measured before and after treatment.
RESULTSAfter treatment, the vertebral height and kyphosis Cobb angle were restored. Compared with preoperative results, postoperative vertebral height and kyphosis Cobb angle, VAS scores and JOA scores were all improved. But there was no statistically significance in vertebral height, kyphosis Cobb angle between postoperative at 1 week and 1 year.
CONCLUSIONInternal fixation combined with injured vertebra bone grafting through the injured pedicle for the treatment of thoracolumbar burst fractures via the paraspinal intermuscular approach under MAST Quadrant is a safe, minimally invasive, effective and satisfactory method.

Microbiology 1992;0(05):-
A pilot-scale research on purification of odorous gas emitted from wastewater treatment plant using a biofilter was conducted. The aim of this study is to check on the performance of biofilter running in various conditions and the effect of pH fluctuations on the performance of biofilter. The relation between distribution of microorganism and removal of odorous gases were also discussed here. The experimental results show that the predominant odor-causing gas can be efficiently eliminated by a biofilter inoculated with deodoring microorganism which were isolated previously. Moreover the biofilter had been proved having good tolerance to shocking loads of pollutant and can operate well in the condition of low pH.
