Objective: To investigate the impact of venom nerve growth factor (vNGF) administered via lateral ventricle on neural progenitor cell proliferation and migration after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats. Methods: Ninety healthy and clean male Wistar rats were randomly allocated into 2-day, 7-day, and 14-day groups. Then they were redivided into 5 subgroups at each time point: vNGF 25 U, vNGF 50 U, vNGF 100 U, control, and sham operation. The rat focal cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury models of the control group and each vNGF subgroup were established. Corresponding dose of vNGF or isotonic saline was administered via the lateral ventricular cannula in all the subgroups according to the specified time points. Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the numbers of DCX positive neural precursor cells around the ischemic cortex and hippocampus CA3/Dentate gyrus in rats of each group. Results: Circled digit oneAfter administering vNGF via the lateral ventricle at each time point, the Longa's scores of the neurological function in all the vNGF subgroups were lower than those in the control group. The numbers of DCX positive cells in the 7-d subgroup was higher than those in the 2- and 14-d subgroups when the vNGF dose was the same. There were statistical significances (P < 0.01). The average life expectancy in Macau is ranking the second in the world, the consumption of fresh medicinal plants is a profound culture in Macau. The paper focus on the distribution of the antioxidant herbs, a comprehensive investigation and analysis the amount of the plant resources was carried out. The antioxidant activity of alcohol extracts was determined by using the DPPH method, and six kinds fresh herbs with high antioxidant free radical activity were screened out. Reference to adult daily dose of vitamin C, it is calculated that the daily dose amount of fresh herbs is less than 200 g. For the expected shortage of resources and the ecological status of Macau, we give some suggestions of herbal introduction in population ecology reconstruction.

To observe the effects of Qishe Pill, a compound traditional Chinese herbal medicine, on lumbar vertebral bone formation induced by long-time upright posture in rats and to investigate the potential mechanism.

Objective To evaluate the overall effect of transsphenoidal microsuegery for 23 patients with non-adenomas disease intrasellar region.Methods A toal of 23 patients with non-adenomas disease in- trasellar region,7 cases of Rathke's cleft cyst,3 cases of craniopharyngiomas,2 cases of meningiomas,2 ca- ses of pituitary tuberculous granuloma,5 cases of pituitary abscess,2 cases of empty sella,2 cases of chord- mas,were treated via sublabio-septo-sphenoidal microsurgery.Results There were among the 23 patients, groos total removal of the disease were achieved in 14 cases,subtotal removal in 7 cases,and partial removal in remain 2 cases.Diminished visual activity and visual field defects were improved in 13 cases.Menstrual disorder in all female cases and sexual disturbance in male were improved.There was no death in group. Conclusion Microsurgical technique via transsphenoidal approach is a safe and effective one for the treatment of patients with non-adenomas disease intrasellar region.

Objective: To compare nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity of gentamycin administered in single dose or multiple dose daily in guinea pigs. Methods: Thirty two male guinea pigs were divided into physiological saline control, single dose group daily (gentamycin, 120 mg/kg, 1/d) and multiple dose group daily (gentamycin, 60 mg/kg, 2/d). The physiopathology of renal and cochlea in guinea pigs were examined using auditory brainstem response (ABR), SC sound irritation and electron microscope. The gentamycin concentrations in serum and in perilymph were monitored by fluorescene polarization immunoassay (FPIA). Results: (1) Compared with control group, both gentamycin single and mulitiple daily doses injuried kidney and cochlea to some extent.The injury of multiple dose groups were worse than that the single dose groups ( P

ObjectiveTo share the experience of arterial plasty and reconstruction of variant arteries in living donor liver transplantation. MethodsFrom September 2006 to May 2010, 73 living donor liver grafts (64 cases using the right lobe,9 cases using left lobe) were used in patients with end-stage liver disease. The hepatic arteries were evaluated preoperatively with computed tomography and magnetic resonance angiography. Back-table arterial plasty was performed under a microscope or a loupe according to arterial variation. We described technical points based on anatomic variations. There were 13 (17. 8 ％) liver grafts with anatomic hepatic arterial variations and all of these cases were subjected to back-table reconstruction with interrupted 8-0 or 9-0 nonabsorbable nylon monofilament sutures according to the diameter of artery. ResultsIn 3 cases, the associate right hepatic arteries that were arisen from superior esenteric arteris (SMA) were reconstructed to cystic arteries. In 2 cases with the associate right hepatic arteries arisen from the abdominal trunk, the right hepatic arteries and associate right hepatic arteries of donors were anastomosed with right hepatic arteries and left hepatic arteries in recipients respectively. In 2 donors, hepatic arteries had branches, which were reconstructed. All of the arterial plasty were conducted on a back table. No arterial thrombosis was found during a postoperative follow-up period of 6 months. ConclusionLive donor liver transplantation using the right lobe with hepatic artery variation can be performed safely, but there is a potential operative risk of severe complication after transplantation. Tominimize operative difficulties and complications, back-table reconstruction should be applied and proper treatment is given according to individual situations to ensure a safe and satisfactory outcome
