Journal of Chinese Physician 2011;13(2):170-172
Objective To study the values of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) changing with time and space in cerebral infarction, and to provide the evidence in defining the infarction stages. Methods 117 work-ups in 98 patients with cerebral infarction (12 hyperacute,43 acute,29 subacute,10 steady, and 23 chronic infarctions) were imaged with both conventional MRI and diffusion weighted imaging. The average ADC values, the relative ADC (rADC) values, and the ADC values or rADC values from the center to the periphery of the lesion were calculated. Results The average ADC values and the rADC values of hyperacute and acute infarction lesion depressed obviously.rADC values in hyperacute and acute stage was minimized, and progressively increased as time passed and appeared as "pseudonormal" values in approximately 8 to 14 days.Thereafter,rADC values became greater than normal in chronic stage. There was positive correlation between rADC values and time[ (174 ±3.47)% vs (58±6.75)%,t =2.03,P <0.05 ].The ADC values and the rADC values in hyperacute and acute lesions had gradient signs that these lesions increased from the center to the periphery. The ADC values and the rADC values in subacute lesions had adverse gradient signs that these lesions decreased from the center to the periphery. Conclusion The ADC values of infarction lesions have evolution rules with time and space. The evolution rules with time and those in space can be helpful to provide the evidence in guiding the treatment or judging the prognosis in infarction.

Objective This study aims to investigate the association of apoB/apoA-1 ratio with insulin resistance (IR) in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) . Methods A total of 224 patients with NAFLD and 166 healthy subjects were enrolled as NAFLD group and control group. Weight, height and blood pressure were recorded. Serum levels of fasting blood glucose (FPG), insulin (Fins), lipids, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) were measured. Homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) indices were calculated. Results Compared with control group, NAFLD group had higher apoB/apoA-1 ratio (0.76 ± 0.28 vs 0.61 ± 0.26) and HOMA-IR (2.43 ± 1.68 vs 1.86 ± 1.61) . Spearman correlation analysis showed that in NAFLD group, HOMA-IR positively correlated with age, body mass index (BMI), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), apoB/apoA-1 ratio (r =0.34, P < 0. 05) and HbA1c, and negatively correlated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) . Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that apoB/apoA-1 ratio was still associated with HOMA-IR in NAFLD group after adjustment for age and BMI. Conclusion The apoB/apoA-1 ratio is closely associated with IR in patients with NAFLD. ApoB/apoA-1 ratio may play a role in the development of IR in NAFLD.

AIM: We examined the effect of interleukin- 2 (IL-2) on calcium handlin g of rat cardiomyocytes. METHODS: The effects of steady state an d transient chan ges in stimulus frequency on the intracellular calcium transient were investigat ed in the isolated ventricular myocytes with spectrofluorometry technique. RESULTS: Under the steady state (0.2 Hz), IL-2 at 2?10 5 U/L decr eased the peak [Ca 2+ ] i and amplitude of the [Ca 2+ ] i transient, increas ed the diastolic calcium level, and prolonged the decay of the calcium transient . At 1.25 mmol/L of extracellular [Ca 2+ ], when increasing the stimulus frequency from 0.2 to 1.0 Hz, diastolic calcium level and peak [Ca 2+ ] i as well as the amplitude of the transient were inc reased. The positive frequency relationship was blunted in the IL-2-treated myoc ytes and this was not normalized by increasing extracellular [Ca 2+ ] t o 2.5 mmol/L . The caffeine induced Ca 2+ release was increased with increase in stimu lus freq uency. IL-2 inhibited the frequency relationship of caffeine induced Ca 2+ releas e. The restitution was not different between control and IL-2 groups at the 1.25 mmol/L of extracellular [Ca 2+ ], which was slowed in IL-2-treated myo cytes when t he extracellular [Ca 2+ ] was increased to 2.5 mmol/L. CONCLUSIO NS: It is concluded that the blunted frequency response of IL-2-treated myocytes was resulted from the decrease in SR Ca 2+ release, which was related to depression of SR funct ion. Despite the evidence of depressed SR Ca 2+ uptake, the restitution o f ca lcium transient at 1.25 mmol/L of extracellular [Ca 2+ ] remains uncha nged, which maybe due to the increase in the Na +/Ca 2+ exchanger activi ty.

Student preparation for laboratory sessions is the first step of conducting laboratory experiments. It makes students maximize use of laboratory time and efficiently perform laboratory exercises in open labs. In view of teaching features and requirements of Microbiology experiment, we designed and developed ‘Online Student Preparation and Management System of Microbiology Experiment’, which integrated func- tions of student preparation for laboratory sessions and teacher management. In the system each experiment consists of six successive parts, viz., learning objectives, principle, materials and equipments, procedure video, manipulation simulation and online quiz. Teaching practices showed that the application of the system enhanced the preparing quality and makes the management of the experiment teaching more normalized and efficient. It was an effective measure in improving experimental teaching of Microbiology.
