Results Insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR) in patients with OSAS was related to hypoxia independently of obesity variables.The severe group was characterized by more serious metabolic disorders and higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome than the non-severe group.OSAS was positively associated with an increased metabolic disorders risk for the severe group versus the non-severe group(OR=8.8).Using the receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve analysis,waist circumference had the greatest areas under the ROC curves compared with body mass index and neck circumference.The results of multiple stepwise regression of lowest pulse oxygen saturation(LSpO2)during overnight sleep indicated that neck circumference followed by epworth sleepiness score(ESS) entered the equation(P
2.Analysis on correlation between dietary fatty acid intake of pregnant women and neonateal anthropometry at birth

Objectives To investigate the correlation between dietary fatty acids intake of pregnant women and neonatal anthropometry at birth. Methods Women in early pregnancy were recruited with appropriate value of weight gain in pregnancy. Instant photography was used to assess the dietary situation in both the second trimester and the third trimester to calculate the intakes of food, energy, macronutrients, and fatty acids. The body weight, height and BMI at birth were evaluated with Z scores. The correlation between dietary fatty acids of pregnant women and neonatal anthropometry at birth were analyzed. Results There were 516 pregnant women recruited in this study. The average intakes of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and the proportion of total fatty acids in the two trimesters were 15 . 09 g/d, 23 . 93% and 17 . 18 g/d, 24 . 86%. In the second trimester the intakes of n-6 and n-3 PUFA were 14 . 23 g/d and 3 . 45 g/d, and in the third trimester, n-6 and n-3 PUFA were 16 . 08 g/d and 3 . 81 g/d, the average intakes in the third trimester were signiifcantly higher than those in the second trimester (P?0.05).n-6/n-3PUFA ratio was 4.11 and 4.28?in the second trimester and the third trimester, respectively, without signiifcantdifference between the two trimesters (P?>?0 . 05 ). The intake of DHA ( 64 . 43 mg/d) in the second trimester was lower than that in the third trimester 75 . 12 mg/d, (P?0 . 05 ). The percentage of linoleic acid (LA) and α-linolenic acid (ALA) contribution to energy were 5 . 95%, 1 . 42% and 6 . 20%, 1 . 45% in the second and the third trimesters, respectively. There was no signiifcant difference between the two trimesters (P?>?0 . 05 ).The dietary intakes of n-3 PUFA, n-6 PUFA and n-6/n-3 ratio in the second trimester were positively correlated with neonatal BMI r=0 . 142~0 . 189 , P?0.05). But in the third trimester, only n-3PUFA and DHA were positively correlated with birth weight ( r=0.206, 0.193, P?0 . 05 ); there was no correlation between n-6/n-3 ratio and neonatal BMI ( r=-0 . 018 , P?>?0 . 05 ). Conclusions The dietary ratio of n-6/n-3 PUFA in the second trimester was positively correlated with neonatal BMI, suggesting that moderately increasing the intake of n-3 PUFA may play a positive role in reducing childhood obesity.
3.Central modulating mechanisms of ST36 (Zusanli) acupunctured with PET

ObjectiveTo discuss the central modulating mechanisms while acupuncturing the Stomach 36[ST36(Zusanli)]by brain functional imaging with positron emission tomography (PET).MethodsPET imaging of whole brain was performed in a group of six healthy subjects during two stimulation paradigms: pseudo acupuncture and real acupuncture at acupoint ST36(Zusanli). The data on cerebral glycometabolism,obtained by using PET,was analyzed by using statistical parametric mapping (SPM).ResultsThere was certain increase of glycometabolism in ipsilateral hypothalamus,back of medulla oblongata;bilateral insular lobe; contralateral paracentral lobule,superior part of precentral and postcentral gyrus,opercular part of frontal and temporal lobe,middle part of cingulate gyrus,head of caudate nucleus,middle part of the back of midbrain and pons,and deep part of cerebellum,whereas decrease in ipsilateral superior part of precentral and postcentral gyrus and lateral part of ipsilateral anterior cerebellar lobe,while acupuncturing at acupoint ST36(Zusanli on the right leg).ConclusionsThe central modulating mechanisms of acupuncturing ST36 are realized by neural and neuroendocrine network modulation mechanisms of vegetative nerve center in cortex and subcortex.
4.Treatment strategy of double disruption of the superior shoulder suspensor complex (SSSC).

OBJECTIVETo discuss efficacy of the surgical treatment strategy of double disruption of the superior shoulder suspensor complex (SSSC).
METHODSThe data of 15 patients with double disruption of the SSSC were retrospectively analyzed from January 2008 to December 2009. There were 11 males and 4 females, with an average age of 45.1 years (ranged, 19 to 60). Of them, 8 patients were treated with surgery and 7 patients with conservative treatment. The short-term effectiveness was evaluated according to Constant-Murley scoring system.
RESULTSAll patients were followed up for 7 to 24 months with an average of 14.4 months. All fractures healed with a mean time of 12.3 weeks (ranged, 9 to 12). At final follow-up, the Constant-Murley scores with patients of surgical treatment was (92.37 +/- 1.99), and patients of conservative treatment was (55.52 +/- 1.29).
CONCLUSIONSurgical treatment can restore the integrality of SSSC, in favour of stability between upper limb and trunk.

5.Relationship between gene polymorphisms of thromboxane A2 receptor and cerebral infarction

Objective To investigate the relationship between the gene polymorphisms of thromboxane A2 receptor (TXA2R) and cerebral infarction. Methods A genetic association study of one single nucleotide polymorphism (rs768963) in the human TXA2R gene was performed in 334 patients with cerebral infarction and 135 healthy controls by polymerase chain reaction-amplification and restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP) method. Results The levels of blood pressure,blood-fat and serum glucose were independent risk factors for cerebral infarction. No significant differences in the overall distribution of genotypes (T/T, T/C and C/C) were noted (P>0.05); however,significant differences in T or C gene frequency of rs768963 of TXA 2R gene between patients with cerebral infarction and noninfarction controls were found (P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that no association between the mutant of rs768963 of TXA 2R gene and such factors as gender, age and levels of blood fat, blood pressure and serum glucose was noted. Conclusion The rs768963 of TXA 2R gene in human thromboxane A2 receptor may be a risk factor for cerebral infarction and patients carried C allele are much likely to have cerebral infarction.
6.Study of alveolar bone defects reparation by combination of bone marrow stromal cells and fibrin glue.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effects and feasibility of the repairing alveolar bone by combination of bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) and fibrin glue (FG).
METHODSBMSCs were obtained from the sucking mouse and then separated, cultured to the second generation to get ready for use. The available cells were combined with FG and then immediately implanted into the defect that had been established in one lateral maxilla of 30 SD rats. At the same time pure FG without BMSCs was implanted into the other side. The rats were killed at the 3rd and 6th week after operation. The hematoxylin-eosin staining and Micro-CT were used to observe and evaluate the osteogenesis.
RESULTSNew bone trabecula formed at experiment side of the rats at 3rd week. The repairing seemed better after 6th week of operation than the control side. There were only fibrous tissues in the control side or none.
CONCLUSIONThis experiment showed a feasible approach of repairing the defects in alveolar bone of the rats.

7.Dynamic expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2, membrane type-matrix metalloproteinase-2 in experimental hepatic fibrosis and its reversal in rat.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the expression dynamics and significance of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) membrane type-matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MT-MMP-2) in hepatic fibrosis and its reversal counterpart.
METHODSAn experimental CCl4 induced hepatic fibrosis rat model was established by intraperitoneal administration of carbon tetrachloride for 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 weeks, and normal rats were used as a control group. The immunohistochemical methods and in situ hybridization were used to detect MMP-2,MT-MMP-2 mRNA and related antigens in the liver.
RESULTSMMP-2,MT-MMP-2 mRNA and related antigens were expressed in mesenchymal cells and parts of hepatocytes besides active pathological changes, especially in the fibrous septum and portal area. Expression of MMP-2,MT-MMP-2 mRNA and related antigens were increased in hepatic fibrosis and decreased gradually in its reversal counterpart.
CONCLUSIONThis study suggested that mesenchymal cells are the main cellular origins of MMPs. The levels of MMP-2 and MT-MMP-2 antigens and gene expression were closely related to hepatic fibrosis. MMP-2 and MT-MMP-2 may play important roles in hepatic fibrosis and its reversal counterpart.

OBJECTIVETo explore the experimental method of obtaining position emission tonogiaphy (PET) imaging evidence of changes in cerebral function by puncturing the Stomach 36 (ST36, Zusanli) acupoint.
METHODSData on changes of cerebral glycometabolism were obtained from six healthy male volunteers with positron emission tomography. Visual experimental evidence, as well as statistical parametric mapping (SPM), was gathered while puncturing the ST36 (Zusanli, right leg) acupoint.
RESULTSThere was increased glycometabolism in the hypothalamus, head of the caudate nucleus, temporal lobe, the sinistral cerebellum, postcentral gyrus, and brain stem while the acupoint ST36 was being punctured.
CONCLUSIONSAcupuncture on ST36 can lead to increase in glycometabolism in the vegetative nerve centers, which is correlated with gastric function. Visual experimental evidence of ST36 acupuncturing on functional gastrointestinal disorder was obtained in our study.

10.Radiographic verification of pedicle screw pilot hole placement in thoracic spine using Kirschner wires versus spiral wires.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the feasibility of the pedicle screw pilot holes placement in thoracic spine using the spiral wires as the guide pin.
METHODSThe pedicle screw pilot holes were drilled within the center of the pedicle and the lateral and medial pedicle walls were violated in 9 human dried thoracic vertebrae. Kirschner wires or spiral wires were separately placed in the holes, and then the posteroanterior and lateral radiographs were taken. The radiographs were evaluated by 3 experienced spine surgeons and 3 young orthopedists. After radiographs were shown to these observers, they combined the posteroanterior and lateral radiographs in each place and determined whether the pedicle screw pilot hole violated the pedicle cortex or not. The results were analyzed by a statistical software.
RESULTSSensitivity, specificity and accuracy of the method using spiral wires to detect pedicle pilot hole placement were significantly higher than those of using Kirschner wires. With a true posteroanterior radiograph, the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of the method using spiral wires approximated or attained 100%.
CONCLUSIONSThe method of intrapedicular pilot hole placement verification using spiral wires is effective for guiding the accurate placement of pedicle screws.
