Objective: To find out the infinity optical thickness of SY-1 silicone elastomers when color difference(△E) is equal to 1.5 . Methods: Silicone elastomer samples with thickness from 0.5 mm to 10 mm of SY-1 silicone elastomer were measured by CIE-1976-L *a *b * relative to CIE source against a white and a black background by using Minolta colorimeter . Color difference was calculated as △E=[(△L *) 2+( △a *) 2+(△b *) 2] 1/2 . The infinity optical thickness of SY-1 silicone elastomer when △E=1.5 was calculated by regression formulation. Result: When △E was equal to 1.5, the infinity optical thickness of SY-1 silicone elastomer was 7.60 mm. Conclusion: In order to get ideal effect the supports should be treated with colorant when the thickness of silicone elastomer covering the surface of supports in maxillofacial prostheses is thinner than 7.60 mm.

The association between fasting plasma ghrelin levels and insulin resistance and blood pressure (BP) in octogenarians was investigated in this study. A total of 487 unrelated octogenarians (including 203 men and 284 women) were enrolled in this cross-sectional study at the Healthy Care Center of Shanghai East Hospital, Tongji University, China, from October 2008 to April 2009. Plasma ghrelin was determined by using the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Insulin sensitivity was assessed using the homeostasis model of assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). The age of the participants ranged from 80 to 89 years (mean=83.9+/-4.8 years) with a body mass index (BMI) of 25.3+/-4.9 kg/m(2). Plasma ghrelin levels were 20.94+/-5.34 mug/L, being 20.89+/-5.53 mug/L in men and 21.38+/-3.73 mug/L in women respectively. Plasma ghrelin was not associated with systolic (P=0.981) or diastolic (P=0.724) BP, waist circumference (P=0.278), fasting insulin (P=0.246), fasting blood glucose (FBG) (P=0.693) and HOMA-IR (P=0.232). In the control cohort, no significant differences in plasma ghrelin were found between genders (P=0.489), and among subjects with hypertension (BP>140/90 mmHg) (P=0.284) and type 2 diabetes (P=0.776). In conclusion, fasting plasma ghrelin levels are not directly correlated with insulin resistance and BP among octogenarians.

Objective To investigate the risk factors of premature atherosclerotic three-vessel coronary artery dis?ease (CHD), and the association between single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of CD36 rs3211956, rs7755 and premature CHD. Methods Patient with premature three-vessel coronary artery disease (n=102) which were confirmed by consecutive coronary angiogram (lesion group) and patients (n=72) without CHD (control group) were enrolled in the study. Conventional CHD risk factors were compared between the two groups as well as SNPs of CD36 rs3211956 and rs7755 to disclose inde?pendent risk factor for CHD, which were measured by mass spectrometry. Results Among the conventional CHD risk fac?tors, male, HBP, high LDL-C, low HDL-C were independent risk factors of premature CHD. The GT genotype proportion of rs3211956 was significantly lower (χ2=8.042,P=0.005) in the lesion group than that in control group while the TT genotype proportion is significantly higher in lesion group compared with that in control group (χ2=6.191,P=0.014). Patients with the TT genotype have higher score of BMI than patients with GG or GT genotype (P=0.037). The G allele proportion of rs7755 in the lesion group was significantly higher than control group (χ2=3.636, P=0.047). Patients of the GG genotype have higher scores of BMI but lower level of HDL-C than those with AA or AG genotype (P<0.001). Logistic regression analysis re?vealed that after excluding a number of confounding factors, GG and TT genotype of rs3211956 and GG and GA genotype of rs7755 were respectively one of the independent risk factors for premature CHD. Conclusion The SNPs of CD36 rs7755 and rs3211956 may be the independent risk factors of premature coronary heart disease and might affect the the onset of CHD by affectting BMI and HDL-C.

Objective To analyze the association of staphylococcal nuclease domain-containing protein 1(SND1) and T-cell intracellular antigen 1(TIA-1) on stress granules, and the regulation of SND1 on stress granules under stress stimuli. Methods The immunofluorescence assay and laser scanning confocal microscopy were used to observe the co-localization of SND1 protein and TIA-1 protein under stress stimuli, and the over-expression plasmids of pEGFP vector were transfected into HeLa cells and to verify which domain of SND1 co-localized with TIA-1 under stress stimuli. RNA interference-mediated knockdown of the expression of SND1 protein in HeLa cells was measured by Western Blotting assay. Then whether the knockdown of SND1 affected the recruitment of TIA-1 on stress granules was observed. Heat shocks under different times were used to identify whether there were dynamic changes in transportation of SND1 and TIA-1 on stress granules. Results SND1 co-localized with TIA-1 on stress granules under stress stimuli, and the associated domain of SND1 were SN domain. TIA-1 still can be recruited on stress granules but a large amount of stress granules were reduced even though the expression of SND1 protein was decreased. And the transportation of SND1 on stress granules was laged behind TIA-1 under different-times of heat shocks. Conclusion SND1 protein co-localizes with TIA-1 on stress granules, and which co-regulates the cellular stress response under stress stimuli.
