3.CT, MRI and clinical manifestations of Kasabach-Merritt syndrome in children

Objective To improve the awareness of the CT and/or MRI appearances and clinical presentations of Kasabach-Merritt syndrome(KMS),6 cases were reported.Methods The CT and/or MRI and clinical characters of 6 cases of KMS were reviewed and analyzed.Results Thrombocytopenia,and consumption coagulopathy were presented in all 6 cases.The paravertebral mass of posterior mediastinum, right pericardial lesion,skin and soft tissue of left arm were shown as iso-,hypointensity on T1-weighted image,iso-,hyper-intensity on T_2-weighted image,and with heterogeneous enhancement after contrast administration in three cases.Splenomegaly was presented in one case,it showed homogenous hypoattenuation on unenhanced CT,and diffused heterogeneous enhancement after contrast administration. On MRI,spleen was shown as hypointensity on T_1-weighted image,hyperintensity on T_2-weighted image, and with heterogeneous enhancement after contrast administration.There were lesions in both bones and spleen in one case.Osteopenia and thinned cortex were shown on the metaphyses of upper and lower extremities.Spleen enlarged and showed multifocal hypoattenuation lesions,the peripheral region enhanced on the early phase,and some of the lesions filled on the delayed phase after the contrast administration.One case showed huge hypoattenuation lesion in the left lobe of liver with gradually filling of the mass after peripheral enhancement.Conclusion Thrombocytopenia and consumption coagulopathy suggest the entity of extensive hemangioma.Splenomegaly with diffuse or focal hypoattenation or hypointensity in MRI infers the diagnosis of hemangioma.
4.Experimental study of recombinant human erythropoietin on sciatic nerve regeneration

Objective To investigate the effect of recombinant human erythropoietin(rh-EPO) on the nerve regeneration of adult rats sciatic nerves. Methods Tirty-six healthy male Wistar rats were involved and left sciatic nerve repaired model was used.The experimental rats were divided randomly into two groups:the EPO group and the control group,18 rats in each group.rh-EPO 3 000 U/kg was injected daily into the abdominal in EPO group,and normal saline was injected into the abdominal every day after operation in control group.On 4 and 8 weeks after operation,these items were determined,the sciatic function index (SFI),biomechanics examination,histological observation,electrophysiological examination,myelinated fibers density and sectional area measurement.Results On weeks 4 after operation,the SFI of EPO group and control group were-65.26 ± 3.42 and-70.83 ± 4.12,respectively,the maximum tensile resistance were (3.86 ± 0.29)N/mm2 and (3.38 ± 0.21 )N/mm2,the delayed ratio of latency of motor nerve were 2.34 ± 0.23 and 2.78 ± 0.29,and the recovery ratio of wave amplitude were 0.23 ± 0.05 and 0.14 ± 0.03 respectively.On eight weeks after operation,the SFI of EPO group and control group were-51.34 ± 2.98 and-57.23 ± 4.86,respcetively,the maximum tensile resistance were (4.67 ± 0.36) N/mm2 and (4.13 ± 0.32) N/mm2,the delayed ratio of latency of motor nerve were 1.32 ± 0.15 and 1.62 ± 0.21,the recovery ratio of wave amplitude were 0.41 ± 0.09 and 0.26 ± 0.07,the nerve fibers cross ratio were 0.57 ± 0.05 and 0.38 ± 0.03,and the recovery ratio of sectional area of myelinated fibers were 0.81 ± 0.06 and 0.58 ± 0.03,respectively.Those items in EPO group were significantly superior to those in the control group (P < 0.05 =.Conclusion rh-EPO can promote the injured nerve regeneration and improve the recovery of their function.
5.A study on the adduct characteristics of styrene and DNA.

OBJECTIVETo explore the adduct characteristics of styrene and DNA.
METHODSThe adduct reactions between styrene, urinary mandalic acid(MA), phenylglyoxalic acid(PGA), mercapturic acid of styrene (UMA) and DNA were studied by ultraviolet spectral analysis. The SO-DNA adducts by 32P-post labeled method, the chemical structures of SO-DNA adducts by GC-MS and NMR were also studied.
RESULTSSO combined with DNA at O6, N2 positions of dGMP to form six adducts, but styrene, urinary mandalic acid, phenylglyoxalic acid and mercapturic acid of styrene did not react with DNA to form adduct.
CONCLUSIONSStyrene formed adduct with DNA through its active center metabolite--SO after entering the body. SO combined with DNA at O6, N2 positions of dGMP to form adducts. If these DNA adducts are not repaired or are mis-repaired before cell duplication, the gene mutation and chemical damage would happen. No adduct reactions are seen among other metabolites of styrene.

Objective To detect the Yersinia pestis plasmid and molecular weight along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.Methods Yersinia pestis plasmids molecular weight detected and analyzed using alkaline lysis,phenol-chloroform extraction of Yersinia pestis plasmid by agarose gel electrophoresis.Results The 18 Yersinia pestis strains of Qinghai-Tibet Railway contained 6×106,45×106,52×106,65×106,92×106plasmid,varing in the range of the 52×106-92×106.Conclusions The Yersinia pestis of Qinghai-Tibet Railway has a standardplasmid graphics,with the biggest Yersinia pestis plasmid changing in a certain regular degree,which providessignificance in the study of plague natural foci of the spatial structure and the genetic.characteristics of Yersiniapestis.

Objective To solve the danger and difficulty in transferring seriously injured victims. Methods The operating principle, construction design, electronic control system and software program flowchart of a robot transfer arm for victim-transfer were introduced.Results and Conclusion The victim didn not have to change their body posture during transfer. The procedure is very simple.A push at only one key is enough,without secondary injury.
8.Effect of Tongluo Xingnao effervescent tablets on learning and memory dysfunction in rats with chronic cerebral ischemia.

OBJECTIVETo study the effect of Tongluo Xingnao effervescent tablets on learning and memory capacity and expression of Na(+)-K(+)-ATPase in hippocampus of rats with chronic cerebral ischemia-induced learning and memory dysfunction model.
METHODThe 2-VO method was used to establish sd rat model learning and memory dysfunction induced by chronic cerebral ischemia. The 50 rats in the successfully established model were randomly divided into the model control group, the Dihydroergotoxine Mesylate tablets group (0.7 mg x kg(-1), Tongluo Xingnao effervescent tablets high dose (7.56 g x kg(-1)), middle dose (3.78 g x kg(-1)) and low dose (1.59 g x kg(-1)) groups and the sham operation group (n = 10) as the control group. The groups were orally given 10 ml x kg(-1) x d(-1) drugs for consecutively 90 days. On the 86th day, Morris water maze was adopted for them. On the 90th day, a leaning and memory capacity test was held. The brain tissues were fixed with 10% formaldehyde and observed for pathomorphism after routine slide preparation and staining. The expression of hippocampal Na(+)-K(+)-ATPase was detected with immunohistochemistry and image quantitative analysis.
RESULTCompared with the model group, all of Tongluo Xingnao effervescent tablets groups showed significant decrease in the escape latency at the 5th day in the Morris water maze, and notable increase in the frequency of the first quadrant dwell, the frequency passing the escape platform and the frequency entering effective area (p < 0.05). According to the pathomorphological detection, the control group showed a significantly higher pathological score than the sham operation group (p < 0.01), the middle dose group showed a significantly lower pathological score than the model group (p < 0.05). According to the immunohistochemistical detection, the model control group showed a remarkably lower mean OD value of Na(+)-K(+)-ATPase than the sham operation group (p < 0.05), high and middle dose groups showed a significantly higher mean od value than the model control group (p < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONTongluo Xingnao effervescent tablets can improve the learning and memory capacity, reduce pathological changes of hippocampal tissues of rats with chronic cerebral ischemia-induced learning and memory dysfunction model, and promote the expression of Na(+)-K(+)-ATPase in hippocampus.

9.Investigation of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome correlated with high risk sexual behavior and knowledge of male homosexuality in Hangzhou Province, China.

OBJECTIVETo find out the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) correlated high risk sexual behavior and knowledge in male homosexuals in Hangzhou Province.
METHODSUsing an self-designed anonymous questionnaire, 927 male homosexual were investigated anonymously in May 2003 to January 2004.
RESULTSAmong the male homosexuals surveyed, the average age of this population was (29.8 +/- 9.9) years, the average number of sexual partners per person in past one year was 7.34 +/- 5.61. Among them, 199 (21.46%) had one sexual partner, 165 (17.79%) had 2 - 5 sexual partners, and 563 (60.73%) had more than 5 sexual partners, and 179 (19.30%) also had opposite-sex sexual partner the average number of opposite-sex sexual partner of this group was 1.16 +/- 0.21. According to sexual behavior, 40.66% of them used anal sexual behavior, 62.99% used oral sex, 74.11% used masturbation and 3.66% used oral-anal touch. Among 179 male homosexuals having opposite sexual partners, the percentage of using vagina sex, anal sex, oral sex and masturbation was respectively 59.77%, 36.87%, 40.22% and 26.25%. Although their understanding level about AIDS was high, the risk rate of sexual behavior among them was also very high. Only 11.11% of male homosexuals used condom when they had anal sex with same sex, most of them rarely used or never used protection measures. When having sex with female, almost none of them used protection.
CONCLUSIONThe risk rate of sexual behaviors in male homosexuals is very high that some appropriating and effective measures for prevention should be taken.

10.miR-200c inhibits metastasis of breast cancer cells by targeting HMGB1.

miR-200c has been shown to regulate the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by inhibiting ZEB1 and ZEB2 expression in breast cancer cells. This study further examined the role of miR-200c in the invasion and metastasis of breast cancer that goes beyond the regulation on ZEB1 and ZEB2 expression. In this study, the bioinformatics software (miRanda) was used to predict the target gene of miR-200c and Renilla luciferase assay to verify the result. The metastatic breast cancer cells MDA-MB-231 were cultured and transfected with the miR-200c mimic or inhibitor. The expressions of miR-200c and HMGB1 were detected by RT-PCR and Western blotting, respectively. Transwell assay and wound healing assay were employed to examine the invasive and migrating ability of transfected cells. Target prediction and Renilla luciferase analysis revealed that HMGB1 was a putative target gene of miR-200c. After transfection of MDA-MB-231 cells with the miR-200c mimic or inhibitor, the expression of miR-200c was significantly increased or decreased when compared with cells transfected with the miR-200c mimic NC or inhibitor NC. Moreover, the expression of HMGB1 was reversely correlated with that of miR-200c in transfected cells. Tranwell assay showed that the number of invasive cells was significantly reduced in miR-200c mimic group when compared with miR-200c inhibitor group. It was also found that the migrating ability of cells transfected with miR-200c mimics was much lower than that of cells transfected with miR-200c inhibitors. It was suggested that miR-200c can suppress the invasion and migration of breast cancer cells by regulating the expression of HMGB1. miR-200c and HMGB1 may become useful biomarkers for progression of breast cancer and targets of gene therapy.
