Journal of Experimental Hematology 2009;17(1):1-7
As unrelated allogeneic umbilical cord blood transplantation (UCBT) has been developed for 20 years already since 1988, more than ten thousands cases have cumulatively undergone UCBT over the world. A huge number of clinical data confirmed that UCBT had unique characters with low rate of severe GVHD. The efficacy and data on TRM, relapse and EFS of allogeneic UCBT with HLA 0-1 mismatched are similar to those in HLA matched BMT. UCBT has become the optimal choice for source of hematopoietic stem cells for allogeneic stem cell transplant especially when HLA-matched or haploidentical donors are not available in time. In most developed countries, unrelated allogeneic UCBT developed successively, and in recent years HLA mismatched UCBT with double units performed in adults increased even more rapidly than in children. Another recent trend of UCBT has been extending to treat some non-malignant but refractory diseases in pediatrics, such as severe combined immunodeficiency, thalassemia major, bone marrow failure syndrome and metabolic disorders. The clinical successful practice of double units for cord blood transplantation inspires to ponder over questions remaining mystery. What is the conflict like between two mismatched donor cells in vivo, which does not spoil the whole transplantation but enable the patient to be engrafted successfully without any increment of the dosage by the sum of two doses together? How can they both be taken at the same time firstly by the recipient, but why does only one predominate later? What are the factors enable the donor cells of the winner to sustain? With the references of the international experiences, how to solve the clinical encountered problems, perspective of unrelated allogeneic UCBT and proper strategies to be enacted are reviewed.

Medical Journal of Chinese People's Liberation Army 2001;0(10):-
Objective To investigate the correlation of blood lipid metabolism abnormity and other components of metabolic syndrome on angiocardiopathy and cerebrovascular diseases in the elderly people. Methods The clinical data of elderly people, who underwent medical examination during 1996 to 2005 in the General Hospital of PLA, were retrospectively analyzed. Based on the analysis, the co-existence of blood lipid disorders with glucose metabolic abnormity, hypertension and obesity, as well as their influence on cardio-cerebrovascular diseases were further analyzed. Results The prevalence of blood lipid metabolic disturbance was 69.6%, in which the prevalence of hyper-cholesteremia and hyper-triglyceride were 23.6% and 21.7%, respectively. The prevalence of hyper-cholesteremia accompanied by hyper-triglyceride (mixed group) was 19.3%, that of hyper-triglyceride with lower high density lipoprotein cholesterol was 5.03%, while it was 30.4% in the normal group. There was a higher risk of having the above abnormal condition in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and obesity, and they were more frequently complicated by hypertension in the hyper-triglyceride group (70.8%). When the patients with lipid metabolic disturbance were complicated by T2DM, hypertension and obesity, the prevalence of cardiovascular or cerebrovascular diseases increased. The prevalence of CHD was higher in the patients with hyper-cholesteremia and hypertension or diabetes, and incidence of both CHD and CVD was higher in the patients with hyper-triglyceride and either one of hypertension, diabetes or obesity. Conclusion There is high prevalence of lipid metabolic disturbance (more than two thirds) and other components of metabolic syndrome, and high risk of suffering from cardiovascular or cerebrovascular diseases in elderly people. The aging patients with hyper-triglyceride are vulnerable to cardiovascular or cerebrovascular diseases, and more attention should be paid in clinical practice in future.

Journal of Third Military Medical University 2003;0(23):-
Objective To detect the percentage of cultured neuron apoptosis after the neurons were treated with anoxia and specific inhibitors of protein kinase A (PKA) and protein kinase C (PKC). Methods After establishment of the model of neurons cultured under hypoxic condition, the neurons were cocultured with different concentrations of Rp-cAMP and Calphostin C, specific inhibitors of protein kinase A and C, respectively. Then neurons were cultured under an ischemic condition until the number of survived neurons, the activity of mPKA,and mPKC, and the apoptotic neurons stained by TUNEL in each group were observed. Results The activity of mPKA and mPKC significantly increased after the onset of hypoxia. With the increases in concentrations of Rp-cAMP or Calphostin C, the percentage of apoptotic neurons obviously decreased or increased, respectively. Conclusion The pathways of PKA and PKC signal transduction may participate in the hypoxic neuron injury. The functions of these two kinases are opposite for apoptotic regulation. It suggests that the signal transduction of PKA and PKC in hypoxic neurons belongs to a monophasic controlling system and the ratio of PKA to PKC in cells may determine the survival of hypoxic neurons.

Chinese Journal of Pancreatology 2012;12(2):123-125
ObjectiveTo establish nude mouse tumor models bearing human pancreatic adenocarcinoma SW1990 cells in multiple sites at different time-points and investigate the feasibiilty of multiple tumor-bearing in these models; then the findings and detection rate of 3.0T magnetic resonance image (MRI) in subcutaneous transplanted tumors was analyzed. Methods A total of 6 BALB/C nude mice were randomized into 3 groups (2 mice per group ).At the 1st,8th,15th day,the mice were injected subcutaneously with the suspension of SW1990 cells at left axilla and right axilla and right groin in sequence.Three weeks later, all the bearing-tumor mice were performed with MRI non-contrast enhanced scanning plus Gd-DTPA enhanced scan and the subcutaneous masses were subjected to pathological analysis.ResultsAll the 6 nude mice were alive during the study and obvious mass was observed in every injected site. The tumor size was positively associated with the grwing time. There were 9 tumors which could be de.ted by noncontrast enhanced MRI scanning and one more tumor was detected by contrast enhanced scanning.2 tumors were not detected, the 2 tumors were located at subcutaneous of right groin, with the shortest growing time, and the major axis of the 2 un-detected tumors was less than 5mm.Despite the MRI findings of the transplanted masses similar to that of human pancreatic adenocarcinoma with bleeding, necrosis, they presented the characteristics of a clear rim, with pseudocapeule sign. All the 12 masses were similar with human pancreatic adenocarcinoma under light microscope.ConclusionsIt is feasible to transplant human pancreatic adenocarcinoma cell at three different subcutaneous sites (injected at three different points of time) in the nude mouse, with a minimal survival time of three weeks. However, routine 3.0T MRI cannot detect the early tumors (growing time within 1 week, major axis <5 mm).

Herald of Medicine 2014;(12):1562-1565
Objective To exPlore the theraPeutic effect of cycloVirobuxine_D ( CVB_D) on heart failure by obserVing the influences of CVB_D on cardiac function, myocardial morPhology and structure in rats with heart failure. Methods The rat model of heart failure was established by ligating left anterior descending coronary artery, and then the rats were randomly diVided into 5 grouPs,Plus the sham grouP. EchocardiograPhy was used to assess cardiac function, including EF,LVSF,SV,HR,CO and so on. Myocardial tissue section was obtained. Change in the myocardial tissue was obserVed by HE staining. Myocardial ultra_structure was obserVed by using transmission electron microscoPe. Results As comPared with the model grouP,EF and LVSF were significantly increased in medium and high dose CVB_D grouPs (P<0. 05 or P<0. 01),SV was increased in low and medium dose CVB_D grouPs (P<0. 05),CO was increased in low, medium and high dose CVB_D grouPs (P<0. 05),LVIDs was decreased and LVPWs was increased in high dose CVB_D grouP (P<0. 05). Under light microscoPe,changes of myocardial structures were obserVed in different CVB_D dose grouPs: myocardial fiber gradually became tidy, striPes became clear, and contour became clear. The changes of myocardial ultra_structure were obserVed under transmission electron microscoPe: the myocardial fiber breakage was reduced and the number of mitochondria was increased, swelling degeneration was alleViated. Conclusion CVB_D significantly imProVed cardiac contraction and blood PumPing function of rats with heart failure, exerted mitigatiVe effect on damage of cardiac muscle fiber and mitochondria. It suggests that CVB_D may be effectiVe in the treatment of heart failure.
