OBJECTIVETo study the diagnostic method for early renal injury in the workers exposed to mercury (Hg).
METHODSThe contents of urinary Hg were determined by chemical method. Urinary microalbumin (mALB), beta(2)-microglodulin (beta(2)-MG) and retinol binding protein (RBP) levels were measured with total quantitative enzyme immunoassay. The activities of urinary N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) and gamma-glutamyl transferase (gamma-GT) were determined by rate methods. Urinary creatinine (Cr) was measured by using picric acid method.
RESULTSThe levels of urinary BRP, beta(2)-MG, NAG and gamma-GT in exposed workers [(439.7 +/- 201.4), (141.4 +/- 56.3) micro g/g Cr and (12.3 +/- 5.7), (60.3 +/- 18.5) U/g Cr respectively] were significantly higher than those in controls (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). The levels were increased gradually with the increasing contents of urinary Hg. The positive detection rate for single or two combined indexes was rather lower whereas that for 4 combined indexes was as high as 85.5%. A positive correlation was noted between the contents of urinary Hg and urinary BRP, beta(2)-MG, NAG and gamma-GT (r: 0.466, 0.379, 0.323, 0.311, P < 0.05). Urinary RBP was correlated to urinary beta(2)-MG, NAG and gamma-GT (r: 0.362, 0.354, 0.332, P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONCombined detection of urinary RBP, beta(2)-MG, NAG and gamma-GT is a sensitive method for the diagnosis of early renal injury in the workers exposed to Hg.

OBJECTIVESTo investigate the relationship between the expression of transgelin-2 and the clinicopathological factors of colorectal carcinoma and evaluate the value of transgelin-2 in prognostic assessment of the colorectal cancer patients.
METHODSUsing tissue microarray and immunohistochemical methods, we examined transgelin-2 of 120 colorectal cancer patients received surgical treatment from September 2002 to April 2004, including 74 male and 46 female, age from 26 to 89 years. Analyzed the relationship between transgelin-2 and both the clinicopathological features and prognosis of the colorectal cancer by using χ² test and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis. Cox proportion hazard regression analysis was used to study the independent prognostic factors.
RESULTSThe positive rate of transgelin-2 expression was 69.2% in colorectal carcinoma. The transgelin-2 expression correlated with differentiation degree (χ² = 5.420), lymph nodes metastasis (χ² = 45.577), distant metastasis (χ² = 12.009), and TNM staging (χ² = 47.577). The survival time was (39 ± 5) months in patients with positive expression of the transgelin-2, while (59 ± 3) months in patients with negative expression. The patient's survival time was statistically correlated with the transgelin-2 expression (P = 0.003). Distant metastasis (RR = 8.318, 95%CI: 4.119 - 16.790), lymph nodes metastasis (RR = 2.794, 95%CI: 1.246 - 6.263) and transgelin-2 expression (RR = 1.834, 95%CI: 1.118- 2.973) were independent prognostic factors in patients with colorectal cancer (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSThe expression of transgelin-2 is correlated with clinicopathological features and prognosis in colorectal cancer, may be the potential marker of metastasis and the prognosis of colorectal cancer patients.

[Objective]To explore the correlations between different indices of lipoprotein cholesterol and apolipopro-tein of coronary heart disease(CHD)patients, especially that between low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)and high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)and that between apolipoprotein A1(apoA1)and apolipoprotein B100 (apoB100),as well as the correlations between these indices, indices ratios and the severity of coronary artery lesion.[Methods]301 coronary heart disease patients hospitalized to accept percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University during 2013-2014 were recruited in the study. Fasting serum lipid indices including triglycerides(TG),total cholesterol(TC),LDL-C,HDL-C,apoA1 and apoB100 were examined before surgery.Gensini score was calculated to evaluate the severity of coronary artery lesion. 153 patients whose Gensini score was less than 50 were assigned to Group A,while 148 patients with Gensini score greater than or equal 50 were distributed to Group B.[Results]Positive correlations were found between LDL-C and HDL-C(r=0.161,P=0.005), apoA1 and apoB100(r=0.358,P<0.001),apoB100 and LDL-C(r=0.487,P<0.001),apoA1 and LDL-C(r=0.178, P=0.002)by linear correlation analysis. No significant correlation was found between apoB100 and HDL-C. None of LDL-C,HDL-C,TC was correlated with Gensini score. However,LDL-C/HDL-C ratio was positively correlated with Gensini score(r=0.148,P=0.01). The results showed no significant correlations between apoB100,apoB100/apo A1 ratio and Gensini score but negative correlation between apoA1 and Gensini score(r=-0.129,P=0.025). The positive correlation between HDL-C/LDL-C ratio and Gensini score was still valid after multi-factors adjustment (β=5.071,P=0.018).[Conclusion]Of patients with coronary heart disease, there exist some correlations between LDL-C and HDL-C,apoA1 and apoB100,while the correlation between LDL-C and HDL-C is relatively weak. The LDL-C/HDL-C ratio, weakly positively correlated with the severity of coronary artery lesion,is a risk factor of coronary artery lesion, while the level of apoA1,negatively correlated with the severity of coronary artery lesion, could play a protective role.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the chromium (Cr) levels in blood and urine among general population in China between 2009 and 2010, and thereby to analyze its prevalent features.
METHODSFrom year 2009 to 2010, a total of 11 983 subjects of general population aged between 6 and 60 year-old were recruited from 24 districts in 8 provinces in eastern, central and western China mainland, by cluster random sampling method. The information about their living environment and health status were collected by questionnaire, and 11 983 blood samples and 11 853 urine samples were also collected. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was applied to test the Cr level both in blood and urine; and the Cr distribution in blood and urine among groups of population in different ages, genders and districts, were then analyzed.
RESULTSAmong general population in China, the geometric mean (GM) of Cr concentration in blood was 1.19 µg/L, with median at 1.74 µg /L and 95% percentile at 5.59 µg/L. The Cr concentration in blood among males and females were separately 1.18 µg/L and 1.20 µg/L(P > 0.05); while its GM in the groups of population aged 6 - 12, 12 - 16, 16 - 20, 20 - 30, 30 - 45 and 45 - 60 years old were 1.00, 1.22, 1.01, 1.40, 1.27 and 1.30 µg/L (P < 0.01), respectively; and the figures in populations from eastern, central and western China were 1.00, 1.70 and 1.98 µg/L (P < 0.01), respectively. Among general population, the GM of Cr concentration in urine was 0.53 µg/L, with median was lower than 0.42 µg/L and 95% percentile at 3.53 µg/L. The Cr concentration in urine among males and females were separately 0.52 µg/L and 0.53 µg/L (P > 0.05);while its GM in the groups of population aged 6 - 12, 12 - 16, 16 - 20, 20 - 30, 30 - 45 and 45 - 60 years old were 0.56, 0.60, 0.52, 0.50, 0.52 and 0.46 µg/L (P < 0.01), respectively;and the figures in populations from eastern, central and western China were 0.58, < 0.42 and 0.60 µg/L (P < 0.01), respectively.
CONCLUSIONThe study reported the Cr levels in blood and urine among general population in China, and thereby provided basic data evidence for the following Cr biological monitoring studies in near future.

【Objective】To assess the difference in volume load between different blood pressure control levels in outpatients with hypertension. To investigate the effect of clinical factors on volume load in outpatients with hypertension. To analyze the clinical baseline characteristics and use of antihypertensive drugs in outpatients with hypertension. 【Methods】 A total of 514 outpatients with hypertension were included from July to November 2017. Clinical indicators including gender, age, height, weight, years of hypertension, blood pressure levels, treatment options for hypertension and comorbidities of these patients were recorded. The body volume load was evaluated by detecting the ratio of extracellular fluid(ECW)to total body water(TBW)using a Bioimpedance Analyzer. Whole body ECW/TBW≥0.39 was defined as high volume load. The effects of clinical factors on the volume load of hypertensive patients and whether there was a difference in volume load between different antihypertensive therapy were analyzed. 【Results】The blood pressure compliance rate of outpatients with hypertension was 15.37% ,which was still very low. Male patients had lower blood pressure compliance rate than female patients. Blood pressure was more difficult to control in patients with older age ,higher body mass index (BMI),higher waist-to-hip ratio(WHR)or longer duration of hypertension. The higher the blood pressure grading, the higher the proportion of combination medication. Diuretics were still the most widely used antihypertensive drugs. Age ,gender and different hypertension grades were the main factors affecting the volume load of hypertensive patients. Volume load was higher in female, older or higher systolic blood pressure(SBP)patients. Among them, age was the most important factor affecting the volume load of hypertensive patients.【Conclusion】The blood pressure compliance rate of outpatients with hypertension was still low. Effectively reducing the volume load was one of the important means to control blood pressure, which was more important in female, older or higher SBP patients.

Objective To identify the species of common necrophagous flies in Fujian Province by gene fragment sequences of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit Ⅰ (COⅠ) and 16S ribosomal deoxyribonucleic acid (16S rDNA), and to explore the identification efficacy of these two molecular markers. Methods In total 22 common necrophagous flies were collected from the death scenes in 9 different regions in Fujian Province and DNA was extracted from the flies after morphological identification. The gene fragments of COⅠ and 16S rDNA were amplified and sequenced. All the sequences were uploaded to GeneBank and BLAST and MEGA 10.0 software were used to perform sequence alignment, homology analysis and intraspecific and interspecific genetic distance analysis. The phylogenetic trees of DNA fragment sequences of COⅠ and 16S rDNA of common necrophagous flies in Fujian Province were established by unweighted pair-group method with arithmetic means (UPGMA), respectively. Results The flies were classified into 6 species, 5 genera and 3 families by morphological identification. The results of gene sequence analysis showed that the average number of interspecific and intraspecific genetic distance of 16S rDNA ranged from 1.8% to 8.9% and 0.0% to 2.4%, respectively. The average number of interspecific and intraspecific genetic distance of COⅠ ranged from 7.2% to 13.6% and 0.0% to 6.3%, respectively. Conclusion The gene sequences of COⅠ and 16S rDNA can accurately identify the species of different necrophagous flies, and 16S rDNA showed higher value in species identification of common calliphoridae necrophagous flies in Fujian Province.

We assessed the prevalence of non- communicable diseases (NCDs) risk factors with a focus on their clustering among healthy adults in Shenzhen, China. Data from the 2011 China Health and Nutrition Survey, comprising a regionally representative sample of 806 healthy adults aged 35 years or older, were obtained to determine the prevalence of five risk factors for NCDs. The prevalence of current smoking, central obesity, impaired fasting glucose, borderline hypertension, and borderline high total cholesterol was 19.97%, 28.29%, 4.47%, 10.55%, and 36.10%, respectively. A total 63.77% of participants had at least one risk factor. Upon examination of risk factor clustering, we observed that 7.57% of participants had at least three risk factors. Using this threshold as a cutoff, clustering of risk factors was associated with sex [odds ratio (OR) = 3.336, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.782 to 6.246], physical activity (OR = 1.913, 95% CI: 1.009 to 3.628), and BMI (OR = 7.376, 95% CI: 3.812 to 14.270). The prevalence of risk factors for NCDs is fairly high among healthy adults in Shenzhen, with a clustering tendency.

In this study, according to TCM theory of "liver qi stagnation forming fire", emotional stress mice model was employed to evaluate the protective effects of Qingre Xiaoyanning on herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) induced reactivation. The animal experimental protocol has been reviewed and approved by Laboratory Animal Ethics Committee of Jinan University, in compliance with the Institutional Animal Care Guidelines. BALB/c mice were divided into six groups, including mock group, HSV-1 latency group, HSV-1 reactivation group (HSV-1 latency + stress), low (0.658 g·kg-1·day-1) and high dose (1.316 g·kg-1·day-1) of Qingre Xiaoyanning groups and positive control group (acyclovir, 0.206 g·kg-1·day-1). Except for the normal group and HSV-1 latency group, all mice in other groups received a daily 12-h restraint stress for 4 days. After 7-day treatment of drugs, body weight and recurrent eye infections of mice were recorded. Brain tissues were harvested to monitor HSV-1 antigen distribution by immunohistochemical staining and detect virus titer by plaque assay. In the meantime, the mRNA and protein levels of infected cell polypeptide (ICP27) and glycoprotein B (gB) in the brain tissues were detected by RT-PCR and Western blot, respectively. The level of 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE) and expressions of ferroptosis-related proteins were measured by Western blot. The evaluation of malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the brain tissues was conducted by MDA assay commercial kit. The results showed that Qingre Xiaoyanning significantly retarded the decline of body weight of mice induced by HSV-1 reactivation, reduced the activation rate of HSV-1 and recurrent eye infections, declined virus titer of HSV-1, down-regulated gene and protein expressions of ICP27 and gB, and hindered the distribution of HSV-1 antigen in the brain of mice. Meanwhile, Qingre Xiaoyanning also decreased the protein expression of ferroptosis-related proteins, including DMT1, TFR1 and ALOX15 in the brain tissue of HSV-1 reactivated mice. The levels of lipid peroxidation products, 4-HNE and MDA, were also reduced by Qingre Xiaoyanning treatment. All the above results indicate that Qingre Xiaoyanning significantly inhibited HSV-1 reactivation by restraint stress, which might be related to the regulation of ferroptosis. Our findings provide a theoretical basis for the application of "clearing liver-fire" TCM on treatmenting HSV-1 reactivation-related symptoms.
