Journal of China Medical University 2017;46(3):244-247
Objective To explore the influencing factors of glycemic variability in 217 cases of hospitalized patients with type 2 diabetes. Meth-ods A total of 217 cases of hospitalized patients with type 2 diabetes, whom received continuous glucose monitoring from January 2013 to Janu-ary 2016,were enrolled for the study. The evaluation variables of glycemic variability included mean amplitude of glycemic excursion(MAGE) and standard deviation of blood glucose(SDBG). Results The difference of glycemic variability was compared by gender, age, diabetic duration, HbA1c,BMI. The values of MAGE and SDBG in females were higher than those in males(P<0.05). There was no significant difference between various age groups and various diabetic duration. The level of glycemic variability increased gradually with the extension of HbA 1c(P<0.05). The level of glycemic variability increased gradually with the extension of body mass index(BMI)(P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that gender(OR=0.67,P=0.02),HbA1c(OR=0.8,P=0.02),diastolic blood pressure(OR=0.9,P=0.03),triglycerides(OR=4.6,P=0.007),cholesterol(OR=0.6,P=0.007). HDL-C(OR=0.09,P=0.006)were significant influencing factors of glycemic variability in hospital-ized patients with type 2 diabetes. Conclusion Gender,HbA1c,BMI,and blood fat are significant influencing factors of glycemic variability while age and duration are not related to the glycemic variability in hospitalized patients with type 2 diabetes.

The clinical value of whole body positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) as an imaging tool in diagnosis of ophthalmic tumors was investigated. The retrospective observational case series were performed on the patients with suspected ophthalmic tumors who underwent whole body PET/CT.The golden standard of diagnosis was the final pathological diagnosis or the results of long-term follow-up for patients without surgery/ biopsy.PET/CT findings were compared with the golden standard. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy and positive likelihood ratio of PET/CT in the detection of ophthalmic tumors were calculated. The clinical application of PET/CT in different types of ophthalmic tumors was evaluated. The results showed that 30 patients (18 males and 12 females) with a mean age of 43.0 years (range 4-63 years) were collected. The mean sizes of orbital tumors and intraocular tumors were 26.8 mm×17.8 mm and 11.2 mm×6.1 mm,respectively. The overall sensitivity, specificity, accuracy and positive likelihood ratio of whole body PET/CT in ophthalmic tumors were 76.5%,71.4%,75.0% and 2.67,and were 62.5%,100% and 70.0% in intraocular tumors, and those were 100%,60.0% and 84.6% in orbital tumors,respectively.PET/CT findings were applied to help make appropriate treatment options in 27 out of 30 patients (90.0%),and 12 (40.0%) patients changed the treatment strategy.False negative results in 4 cases and false positive results in 2 cases were observed in this series. It was suggested that PET/CT was an effective imaging modality in detecting, diagnosing and developing therapeutic schedule for patients with ophthalmic tumors. It was more sensitive and accurate for detecting orbital tumors than for detecting intraocular tumors.

Objective To examine the expressions of serum growth hormone (ghrelin), leptin (LP), in sulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 (IGFBP3) in children with id-iopathic short stature (ISS), and their significance. Methods A total of 40 patients with ISS were selected from May. 2012 to Oct. 2014 in Fuyang Maternal and Child Health Hospital, while a total of 40 children in good health were selected as the control group. Serum ghrelin and LP levels were measured by ELISA. Serum IGF-1 and IGF-BP3 levels were detected by chemiluminescence immune assay. Results were analyzed statistically. Results The height, weight, BMI, GH, serum LP, IGF-1, and IGFBP3 levels in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group, while serum ghrelin expression level was significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05). The correlation analysis showed that ghrelin and LP were negatively correlated(r=-0.611, P<0.01), ghrelin and IGF-1 levels were negatively correlated(r=-0.520, P<0.05), Ghrelin and IGFBP3 were pos-itively correlated (r=0.586, P<0.01), IGF-1 and IGFBP3 was negatively correlated (r=-0.576, P<0.01), and LP and IGFBP3 were negatively correlated (r=-0.609, P<0.01). Conclusions It shows that ghrelin, LP, IGF-1, and IGFBP3 levels in children with ISS are related to growth hormone secretion status. The interactions between ghre-lin and insulin-like growth factor axis regulate growth and development of children.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of internal fixation with screw through femoral epiphyseal plate on growth in- hibition via an experimental study.
METHODSForty New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups and 10 rabbits in each group. Epiphyseal plate was injured by penetrating of screws, and the size of damage area was controlled by changing the number of threads. Group A: blank group; group B: injury area accounted for 4% of the epiphyseal plate; group C: injury area accounted for 6%; group D: injury area accounted for 8%. The internal fixation was removed after 2 weeks, and the results were observed with X-ray film for 4 groups to judge the complications such as early closure of epiphyseal.
RESULTSIn each group, there were no statistical differences in the length of the femoral neck, the diameter of femoral neck, the diameter of the femoral head, and the epiphyseal plate closure time. The growth speed of the length and diameter of the femoral neck, as well as the diameter of femoral head, were quicker on the early phase, and the speed was slowest when the epiphyseal plate was being closed.
CONCLUSIONThe injury area of epiphyseal plate under 8% is safe for its growth. Because no evidences demonstrate the growth inhibition of epiphyseal plate, the screws can be used for rabbit epiphyseal plates.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2015;32(1):142-145
Skin aging principles play important roles in skin disease diagnosis, the evaluation of skin cosmetic effect, forensic identification and age identification in sports competition, etc. This paper proposes a new method to evaluate the skin aging objectively and quantitatively by skin texture area. Firstly, the enlarged skin image was acquired. Then, the skin texture image was segmented by using the iterative threshold method, and the skin ridge image was extracted according to the watershed algorithm. Finally, the skin ridge areas of the skin texture were extracted. The experiment data showed that the average areas of skin ridges, of both men and women, had a good correlation with age (the correlation coefficient r of male was 0.938, and the correlation coefficient r of female was 0.922), and skin texture area and age regression curve showed that the skin texture area increased with age. Therefore, it is effective to evaluate skin aging objectively by the new method presented in this paper.

AIM: To investigate the effects of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI), fosinopril, captopril and angiotensin II AT 1 antagonists, valsartan on tissue factor (TF) expression on monocytes induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). METHODS: Mononuclear leukocytes from normal delivered female umbilical veins were incubated with bacterial LPS in presence or absence of different ACE inhibitors .At the end of incubation, the cells were disrupted by 3 freeze-thaw cycles. TF procoagulant activity was assessed by a one-stage clotting assay. RT-PCR was used to check TF mRNA expression, and GAPDH mRNA was used for parallel assay. RESULTS and CONCLUSION: The results showed that increased expression of TF mRNA induced by LPS was inhibited by fosinopril, captopril and valsartan, respectively, and the procoagualant activity of monocytes was also reduced.
