Objective To investigate the pathological features and differential diagnosis of mixed epithelial and stromal tumor of the kidney(MESTK). Methods Three patients with MESTK were studied by light microscopy and immunohistochemistry, and related literatures were reviewed. Results In the three patients, two were females and one was male, with the mean age of 20 years old.Examined grossly, the tumors were well circumscribed and typically composed of multiple cysts and solid areas.Microscopically, the tumors were composed of epithelial and spindle cells, both of the which were well differentiated with no atypia and mitosis of the nuclei. The immunohistochemical staining showed positive for the cytokeratin in the epithelial cells, and Vimentin,SMA,actin,PgR or ER and WT-1 in the spindle cells. No tumor recurrence and metastasis was found in all the three patients by 25 to 29 months of follow up. ConclusionMESTK is an uncommon mixed renal neoplasm with a favorable prognosis.

After the structural reform in the food and drug supervision system, the knowledge structure and the professional re-quirements of the supervisors is unmatched, which hinder the fulfillment of regulatory responsibilities and the performance of adminis-trative efficacy. Effective ways for team building are actively explored throughout the country. The paper introduced the adult corre-spondence education of the supervisors in Zhejiang Ningbo food and drug supervision system to provide a good example for training work throughout the country and some useful suggestions for the quality improvement of the supervision team.

Food and drug supervision is a specialized job. However, the present supervisors coming from various departments have differences in supervision concepts, professional background, knowledge structure and work experience, which shows large gap with the requirements of supervision work. Therefore, it is urgent to strengthen the classified training for the improvement of quality construction and specialization. The article provided the curriculum system, teaching explanation and ideas about the classified training for all supervisors in the whole system, which may be beneficial to the training of food and drug supervisors.

Objective To evaluate the mechanical homogeneity pattern of isolated carotid atherosclerotic plaque intima on longitudinal axis view using ultrasonic velocity vector imaging. Methods Fourty six patients with 48 isolated plaques were undergone the high frequency ultrasound scanning, the real-time two-dimensional longitudinal-axis gray scale view at the maximal thickness of the plaque was obtained in three complete cardiac cycles.A dedicated velocity vector imaging(ⅤⅤⅠ)workstation was used for the off-line dynamic two-dimensional gray-scale image analysis and mechanics parameter(i.e.,the peak strain and the absolute difference of the peak strain)assessment at the sites of the upper, middle and down stream separately. The length and direction distribution of the velocity vectors at the carotid atherosclerotic plaque intima were observed.Wilcoxon test was utilized for the comparison of the peak strain and the absolute difference of the peak strain between two sites. Results The chaos phenomenon of velocity vector distribution at the sites of plaque intima occurred significantly differed from those uniform velocity vectors at the reference sites.According to the two groups of the higher strain value side and the lower strain value side on the upper stream and the down stream of the plaque intima, the peak strain at the higher strain value side was significantly higher than the lower strain value side(P=0.000).There was a significantly difference between the absolute difference of peak strain from the higher strain value side to the middle stream point of the plaque intima and the absolute difference of peak strain from the lower strain value side to the higher strain value side of the plaque intima(P<0.017).Conclusions The length and direction distribution of velocity vectors of the isolated carotid atherosclerotic plaque intima on longitudinal axis view are uneven, the mechanical heterogeneity pattern exists at the plaque intima and could be visualized and quantitatively evaluated using ultrasonic velocity vector imaging.

Objective To observe the effect of auricular point sticking on the sleep quality of patients undergone liver transplantation.Method The sleep quality was assessed by using sleep quality scale. The patients undergone liver transplantation were randomized into two groups, both receiving auricular point sticking, while the insomnia zone was selected in the observation group and non-insomnia zone was selected in the control group, 4 weeks as a treatment course.Result In 4 weeks after the transplantation, there were significant inter-group differences in comparing the scores of unfreshing sleep, difficulty falling asleep, nightmairs, medications, post-insomnia reactivity, and the total score of the self-rating scale of sleep (SRSS) (P<0.05); in 2 months after the transplantation, there were significant differences in comparing the scores of sleep latency, sleep efficiency, sleep disturbance, sleep medications, daytime dysfunction, and the global score of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) between the two groups (P<0.05), indicating that the sleep quality in the observation group was markedly improved. Three months after transplantation, there were no significant differences in comparing the sleep indexes between the two groups (P>0.05).Conclusion Auricular point sticking at the insomnia zone can markedly improve the short-term sleep disorder in patients after liver transplantation, and can reduce the dose of sleep medications.

OBJECTIVETo explore the feasibility to evaluate objectively auditory temporal resolution using the iso-modulation depth temporal modulation transfer function (TMTF) derived from the amplitude of evoked response to sinusoidally modulated signals.
METHODSChronic electrodes were implanted in inferior colliculus and auditory cortex of guinea pigs. We recorded the evoked response to sinusoidally modulated tones with modulation frequency being varied from 20 to 400 Hz and modulation depth fixed at 100%. The response amplitude in uV was converted into relative amplitude using the fast Fourier transform (FFT) function provided by Biosig software, and then the iso-modulation depth TMTF was plotted with the relative amplitude changed with modulation frequency. Then we recorded the evoked response to the sinusoidally modulated tones with modulation depth being varied from 100% to 10% and derived the iso-amplitude TMTF comparable to conventional modulation depth threshold TMTF. The derived iso-amplitude TMTF was compared to iso-modulation depth TMTF to determine the validity of iso-modulation depth TMTF.
RESULTSThe iso-modulation-depth TMTF and iso-amplitude TMTF in inferior colliculus and auditory cortex of guinea pigs represented respectively bandpass and lowpass characteristic. The cut-off frequency calculated from the two TMTF methods didn't differ significantly and the cut-off frequency derived from auditory cortex iso-modulation depth TMTF was consistent with behavioral results.
CONCLUSIONSThe TMTF plotted with the response amplitude to sinusoidally modulated tones with the modulation depth fixed at 100% and the modulation frequency was a valid method to evaluate objectively auditory temporal resolution.

This study is to develop a HPLC method for quality evaluation of Euodiae Fructus and related species by simultaneous determination limonin, indole alkaloids (14-fomyldihydroxyrutaecarpine, evodiamine, rutaecarpine), and quinolone alkaloids [1-methyl-2-undecyl-4 (1H)-quinolone, evocarpine, dihydroevocarpine] in the fruits of five Evodia species. Samples were analyzed on a YMC C18 column (4.6 mm x 250 mm, 5 microm) eluted with mobile phases of acetonitrile (A), tetrahydrofuran (B), and a buffer solution of 5 mmol x L(-1) ammonium acetate (pH 3.8) (C) in a linear gradient mode. The column temperature was 30 degrees C and the flow rate was 1.0 mL x min(-1). The PDA detector wavelengths were set at 220 and 250 nm. The seven compounds were well separated and showed good linearity (r = 0.999 9) within the concentration ranges tested. The mean recoveries were between 96.7%-102.4% (RSD 1.4%-3.1%). Through the validation, the method was proved to be accurate and repeatable. All the seven constituents were detected in the fruits of five species, but the contents of them varied widely in different samples. The total contents of seven constituents in 16 batches of Euodiae Fructus were 9.46-69.9 mg x g(-1), and the mean content was 28.2 mg x g(-1). The total content of seven constituents in E. compacta and E. fargesii was 25.8, 7.69 mg x g(-1), respectively.
