Objective To explore the potential value of serum lipoxin A4 (LXA4) in monitoring bacterial load and anti-tuberculosis treatment progression in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). Methods From January 2021 to January 2022, forty patients with active PTB, who were admitted to Shaanxi Provincial Tuberculosis Prevention and Control Hospital, were selected as the active PTB group, 38 patients with latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) were selected as the LTBI group, and 28 healthy volunteers who underwent physical examination in our hospital during the same period were included as the healthy control group. The active PTB patients received a 2-month standard anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy, while the other two groups were untreated. Fasting venous blood was drawn from the three groups at enrollment (baseline), after 2 months of treatment, and upon the completion of 6 months of treatment in the active PTB group to measure serum LXA4 levels using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The relationship between serum LXA4 level and clinical manifestations, bacterial load, chest imaging manifestations, and treatment progress was analyzed. Results At baseline, serum LXA4 levels in the active PTB group, LTBI group, and healthy control group were [397.72 (210.68, 573.00)], [178.18 (108.17, 271.87)], and [131.06 (76.24, 166.04)] pg/mL, respectively. The levels in the active PTB and LTBI groups were significantly higher than those in the healthy control group, with statistical significance (P<0.01). According to the grading of acid-fast bacilli (AFB) sputum smears at diagnosis, baseline serum LXA4 level increased in the active PTB group with AFB sputum smear grade (P<0.001), and there was a positive correlation between serum LXA4 level and sputum smear grade (rs=0.209, P=0.003). After 6 months of treatment, the serum LXA4 level in the active PTB group was lower than the baseline value (P=0.002). The serum LXA4 level can predict treatment progress, with a baseline sensitivity of 55.0% (22/40), and after 6 months of treatment, 8 patients (20.0%) still showed positive serum LXA4 levels. Conclusions Serum LXA4 may be a useful biomarker for monitoring the progression of PTB treatment.

The present study investigated the relationship between DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK) and radiosensitivity of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) cell lines. The dose-survival relationship for NPC cell lines, CNE1 and CNE2, was analyzed using clonogenic formation assay, the activity of DNA-PK of the two cell lines was measured using the Signa TECT DNA-PK assay kit, and the localization and expression of Kus (a heterodimer) and DNA-PKcs protein in CNE1 and CNE2 before irradiation and 15 min, 1 h, 6 h, 12 h, 24 h after 4 Gy irradiation were analyzed by immunofluorescence, laser scanning confocal microscope (LSCM) and Western blot. The results showed that the surviving fraction of CNE1 was higher than that of CNE2 at each dose. The DNA-PK activity of CNE1 was also significantly higher than that of CNE2 before and after irradiation (P<0.05), while the expression of total Ku70/Ku80 in CNE1 and CNE2 had no significant difference. Increasing translocation of Ku70 and Ku80 from the cytoplasm to the nuclei in the two cell lines was observed with increase of irradiation time as detected by Western blot, and the immunofluorescence of the DNA-PK complex subunits showed greater nuclear translocation in CNE1 than CNE2 after irradiation. The results suggest that the relatively higher radio-resistance of CNE1 correlates with the higher activity of DNA-PK as compared to that of more radiosensitive CNE2 (or lower radio-resistance) before and after irradiation. Thus, DNA-PK activity may be a useful predictor of radiosensitivity of NPC.

Objective The aim of this study was to introduce the multi-slate Markov model for the prediction of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to Alzheimer' s disease (AD) and to find out the related factors for AD prevention and early intervention among the elderly. Methods MCI,moderate to severe cognitive impairment, and AD were defined as state 1,2 and 3,respectively.A three-state homogeneous model with discrete states and discrete times from data on six follow-up visits was constructed to explore factors for various progressive stages from MCI to AD.Transition probability and survival curve were made after the model fit assessment. Results At the level of 0.05,data from the multivariate analysis showed that gender (HR=I.23,95%CI:1.12-1.38),age (HR=I.37,95% CI:1.07-1.72),hypertension (HR=l.54,95% CI:1.31-2.19) were statistically significant for the transition from state 1 to state 2,while age (HR=0.78,95% CI:0.69-0.98),education level (HR=1.35,95% CI:1.09-1.86) and reading (HR=1.20,95% CI:1.01-1.41 ) were statistically significant for transition from state 2 to state 1,and gender (HR=1.59,95% CI:1.33-1.89),age (HR=1.33,95% CI:1.02-1.64),hypertension (HR=l.22,95% CI:1.11-1.43),diabetes (HR=1.52,95%CI:1.12-2.00),ApoEε4 (HR=1.44,95%CI:1.09-1.68) were statistically significant for transition from state 2 to state 3.Based on the fired model, the three-year transition probabilities during each state at average covariate level were estimated. Conclusion To delay the disease progression of MCI,phase by phase prevention measures could be adopted based on the main factors of each stage.Multi-state Markov model could imitate the natural history of disease and showed great advantage in dynamically evaluating the development of chronic diseases with multi-states and multi-faetors.

AlM: To measure ocular biometric values with the degree of axial myopia and determine the relationship between the differences using the Lenstar 900.
METHODS:Totally 413 myopes (826 eyes) were enrolled in this study and were divided into 3 groups: low myopia (myopia <3. 00 diopters, 104 eyes), moderate myopia ( myopia =3. 00-6. 00 diopters, 500 eyes) and high myopia ( myopia > 6. 00 diopters, 222 eyes ). Central corneal thickness ( CCT ) , aqueous depth ( AD ) , lens thickness (LT), axial length (AL) were measured by Lenstar 900. The parameters were tested using analysis of variance and the relations among SE, AL, LT were analyzed.
RESULTS: There were significant difference both in AL (F=206.16, P<0.01) and AD (F=4.764, P<0.05) and no significant difference both in CCT and LT between these myopia groups. With analysis of Person, the Spherical equivalent ( SE) shows a significantly positive correlation with AL (r=0. 662, P<0. 01) and AD (r=0. 095, P<0. 05), no correlation with CCT and LT. AL shows a significantly positive correlation with AD (r=0. 347, P<0. 01) and CCT (r=0.126, P<0.01), negative correlation with LT (r=-0.265, P<0. 01). LT shows a significantly negative correlation with AD (r=-0. 496, P<0. 01).
CONCLUSlON: Along with the diopters increasing in myopia, the axial length and aqueous depth continue to increase. Spherical equivalent ( SE) shows a significantly positive correlation with AD. AL shows positive correlation with SE, AD and CCT and negative correlation with LT. LT shows a significantly negative correlation with AD.

Microbiology 1992;0(04):-
Two Pseudomonas strains, K80 - B and K80 - A, can use hydrocarbon as carbon source by two different mechanisms. Different effects can be observed when they are applied to 69-8 oil of Dagan Oil Field. The strain K80-B producing both hydrocarbon pseudosolubilizing factor and hydrocarbon emulsifying factor can decrease the viscosity and solidifying point of the 69-8 oil 51.6% and 2℃ respectively. Whereas the other can only decrease 43.5% and 3℃ respectively. When the two strains are mixed, synergistic effect on crude oil is obvious.

AIM: To investigate the effects of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI), fosinopril, captopril and angiotensin II AT 1 antagonists, valsartan on tissue factor (TF) expression on monocytes induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). METHODS: Mononuclear leukocytes from normal delivered female umbilical veins were incubated with bacterial LPS in presence or absence of different ACE inhibitors .At the end of incubation, the cells were disrupted by 3 freeze-thaw cycles. TF procoagulant activity was assessed by a one-stage clotting assay. RT-PCR was used to check TF mRNA expression, and GAPDH mRNA was used for parallel assay. RESULTS and CONCLUSION: The results showed that increased expression of TF mRNA induced by LPS was inhibited by fosinopril, captopril and valsartan, respectively, and the procoagualant activity of monocytes was also reduced.
