This is an analysia of 126 cases(14.1%) of segmental vitiligo among 892 vitiligo patient who had visited vitiligo special clinie in Severance Hospital. The results are summarized as follow : 1. There were 53 males(42.1%) and 73 females(57.9%). 2. The mean age of onset was 15.4 years, the mean age on the first visit was 19.3 years, and mean duration of the disease was 4.8 years. 3. Mode of onset was single in 86.5% and the disease was table in 57.1% of patients at the visit. 4. The mean percentage of depigmented lesions was 3.3% and less than 5% of body surface area was involved in 86.5% of patients. 5. The most common site of involvement was head and necl(59.6%), especially face(43.7%) and the trigerminal dermatome was most commonly involved. 6. Poliosis was observed in 39.7%. 7. Family history of vitiligo was obtained in 11.1% of patients. There was no precipitating factors in 126 cases prior to development of vitiligo. 8. Koebner phenomenon was found in 4% of patients. 9. Association with diseases of a proven or suggested allergic or immunologic etiology including atopic dermatitis, halo nevus, uveitis, thyroid disease, lopecia areata and premature graying of hair was found in 10.3% of patients.

Korean Circulation Journal 1982;12(2):83-90
Thirty-six cases of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia which were observed at the Department of Pediatrics, Seoul National University Hospital from 1976 till October 1982, were analyzed. 1. The sex ratio was 1.8:1, male predominance. Sixteen cases (44.4%) were under 1 year of age and 11 cases (30.6%) were under 4 months of age. 2. Cases without known heart disease were 22(61.6%). Among Known etiology, most frequent one was 7 cases(19.4%) of W-P-W syndrome. 3. The sex ratio of group without known heart disease was 2.1:1, and that of group with known heart disease was 1.3:1. Under 4 months of age, there were more cases without known heart disease(72.7%) and after 4 months of age number of cases with and without known heart disease were similar. 4. Most frequent clinical manifestation was tachydyspnea. hepatomegly, irritability, palipitation, cyanosis and pallor, vomiting, chest pain, edema, abdominal pain, and fever were followed in order of frequency. 5. Congestive heart failure occurred in 22 cases(61%). The incidence was related to the duration of attack of tachycardia, age of patients, and heart rate. The longer the duration of attack and the younger the age of patients and the faster the heart rate, the higher incidence of heart failure was observed. 6. As treatment, vagal reflex stimulation was almost ineffective, and digitalization was effective in most of the cases. Verapamil and electrical cardioversion were tried in small number of cases and proved to be effective. 7. One case (2.8%) expired becase of the supraventricular tachycardia. 8. Eight cases (30.8%) had recurrence. In younger age group, recurrence rate was lower. 9. Digoxin was given in 15 cases for prevention of recurrence and was effective in 12 cases.

We have experienced 52 intra-articular fractures(24 malleolar, 17 patellar, 11 olecranon) treated with tension band wiring from 1972 to 1981 and the results are as followings; 1. The operative technique is relatively simple and easy. 2. In avulsion fractures without communition, anatomical reduction and rigid internal fixation can be achieved. 3. In comminuted fractures, the fragments can be securely fixed with a few additional K-wires including tension band wiring. 4. In avulsion fractures, where the fragment is either too small for screw fixation or too osteoporotic a tension band wiring can be applied with no difficulty. 5. Early joint motion reduces the functional disability and promote the fracture healing.

Synthetic hydroxyapatite is a safe, nontoxic, biocompatible, and osteoconductive material. Hydroxyapatite-coated implants have the property of achieving a very strong bond with living bone in a relatively short period. From March 1992 to June 1994, 140 hydroxyapatite-coated primary total hip prostheses were implanted. This study included 60 cases that could follow up minimum 3 years. At the time of mean follow up, 45 months after operation, the mean Harris hip score was 92 points. Only two patients complained of thigh pain at last follow up. On radiographic evaluation, radiolucent lines were seen around the uncoated distal part of the stem in 46 percents of the implants. No radiolucent line was observed around the coated area of the prosthesis. Cancellous condensation was seen in 95 per cents of the implants at the Gruen zone 2 and 6 area. Cortical hypertrophy was present in 32 percents. Fourteen cases had the gaps at the bone to acetabular cup interface in the immediate postoperative period. The gaps disappeared in 12 months after operation. Five implants were revised because of polyethylene wear, cup migration and periprosthetic fracture. The clinical outcome was excellent. But this result was obtained in the relatively short-term follow up. Longer-term data will be the only true test of the value of hydroxyapatite coated implant.

Journal of the Korean Medical Association 2014;57(8):685-692
Respiratory distress is not uncommon in children and adolescents, who are at higher risk of progressing into respiratory failure than adults. When managing dyspneic pediatric patients, a clinical history and physical examination should be performed simultaneously and must be followed up by prompt first aid, including oxygen supplementation. Prior to initiating an invasive therapy such as endotracheal intubation, noninvasive positive pressure ventilation should first be considered. This method may be effective in patients with chronic respiratory distress and failure. The prevention and proper management of respiratory infections are also important in affected patients. If chronic respiratory distress deteriorates into respiratory failure, a portable home mechanical ventilator may be needed.

Annals of Dermatology 1989;1(2):83-86
Hydroa vacciniforme is a very rare photosensitivity disorder. The primary skin lesion is a vesicle or bulla which then heals with vacciniform scarring. We report a case of hydroa vacciniforme recurred after 3 years period of quiescence in a 20 year-old man who had had history of the disease from the age of two. The duplication of the natural lesion, clinically and histologically, was successfully made by artificial UV-A irradiation on the patient's back.

Journal of the Korean Pediatric Society 1981;24(9):826-836
A follow up study was made of 59 cases of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia receving blood exchange transfusion at Kwangju Christian Hospital from early 1976 to early 1979, with the following results. 1. 42patients(71.2%) returned for followup: 12 patients(20.3%) did not return; and 5 patients(8.5%) had died. 2. Of those returning, developmental status was studied by D.D.S.T. 38 patients(90.5%) had normal development , 3(7.1%) were retarded, and 1(2.4%) was questionable. 3. There was no retardation among patients exchange-Transfused at the age of 5 days or less, except for one patients with severe dehydration. All the other retarded or dying patients were over 5 days at the time of exchange transfusion. 4. Serum bilirubin level was above 27 mg% in all retarded patients . Of the 5 patients dying, 3 had serum bilirubin levels of over 40mg%, one with S.B. of 25mg% had BET at 10 days of age, and one died of necrotizing enterocolitis without evidence of kernicterus. 5. In patients with normal development, 23 were male, and 15 were female. All females had normal development, whereas all four babies with retardation were male. 6. Because S.B. remained over 25mg%, three patients underwent a second BET, with good results. 7. ABO incompatibility was etiologically responsible in 23 cases (55.9%), followed by idiopathic hyperbilirubinemia in 16 cases (27.4%), Other causes of hyperbilirubinemia were infection, respiratory distress syndrome, immune neonatal thrombocytopenia, enclosed hemorrhage, small-for-date infant, etc. 8. Mean values with standard errors of pre BET serum bilirubin level were as follows. Normal development group: 28.10.69mg% Retarded development group: 30.21.15mg% There was a tendency toward higher S.B. levels in retarded development group. 9. Nine patients who had early signs of kernicterus on admission, developed normally after BET, but those patients , shown later to be retarded, had only transient improvement of early signs of kernicterus at the time of discharge. 10. Thirty-three patients had siblings, among whom 8 also had history of hyperbilirubinemia or mental retardation due to kernicterus, or had undergone blood exchange transfusion. All of the were cases of ABO incompatibility. 11. Motor distrubance was the predominant handicap in all 4 cases of typical cerebral palsy, but no speech disturbance or hearing loss was seen. Choreoathetosis was evident in two patients over 3 years of age, but it was not possible to classify the cerebral palsy in two patients less than 1 1/2years of age.

Journal of the Korean Pediatric Society 1994;37(9):1264-1272
To estimate the child and infant mortality rates among Korean children, a mortality survey was carried out in the province of Kyongsangnam,buk-do. The study population are the beneficiaries of Korea Medical Insurance Coorporation (KMIC), Kyongsangnam,buk-do area, among which the 3,867 and 1767 deaths occurred from January, 1989 to December, 1990 in Kyongsangnam-do area and from January, 1991 to December, 1991 in Kyongsangbuk-do area respectively. We reviewed the data to confirm the causes of death. These were based on the death certificates and medical utilization records before dying which were available through the computerized databases on medical care utility of KMIC. The survey conducted along three steps. At first, the death certificates were examined, as a second step, medical utilization records were reviewed, and finally direct contacts to the family members of the deceased were done. As a result, 115 deaths were found under 20 years of age. Using them, age specific mortalities and causes of death were estimated. Mortality rate in this area was estimated 129 per 100,000 person-years during 1 month to 11 months of age, 67 during 1 year to 4 years of age, 23 during 5 years to 9 years of age, 10 during 10 years to 14 years of age, and 29 during 15 years to 19 years of age, respectively. And the frequent causes of death were congenital anomalies, central nervous system (CNS) diseases, certain condition originating from perinatal period during 1 months of age; accidents, congenital anomalies, malignancies, CNS diseases, and pneumonia or bronchiolitis during 1 to 4 years of age; accidents, malignancies, CNS diseases, and congenital anomalies during 5 to 14 years of age; and accidents, suicide, malignancies, and CNS diseases during 15 to 19 years of age.
