A 70-year old male with dilated cardiomyopathy was admitted to our hospital because of a renal stone, and a supra-renal abdominal aortic aneurysm was detected during work-up. We performed a hybrid surgery using an endovascular stent because of his co-morbidities. The operation consisted of removal of the renal stone, de-branching of the visceral artery and both renal arteries from the abdominal aorta, reperfusion of the de-branched arteries with retrograde bypass surgery using two Y-graft from the left external iliac artery, and deployment of stent graft in the abdominal aorta. Therefore, we report a case of hybrid surgery for supra-renal abdominal aortic aneurysm.

A 38-year-old male was admitted to our hospital due to painful swelling of his right popliteal fossa. He had been kicked in his right popliteal fossa during a soccer game about three weeks earlier. Computerized tomographic angiography of the lower extremity demonstrated a 4-cm-wide, 3-cm-long aneurysmal change of the popliteal artery. He underwent aneurysmectomy and graft interposition using a great saphenous vein graft. Pathologic findings of the resected specimen were consistent with those of a pseudoaneurysm.

The authors experience 3 cases of angiographically occult vascular malformation(AVOM) of the brain during the last 3 months in 1990. All cases were diagnosis of either operative or pathological finding and were associated with intracerebral hemorrhage. The authors recommend that surgery should be considered even to those angiographically negative intracerebral hemorrhage cases, once clinical features are highly suggestive of AOVM. Surgery can be an effective and define therapy for these entities, which are prone to cause recurrent hemorrhage and persistent neural deficits.

To elucidate iron utilization patterns of Staphylococcus aureus according to the growth, we checked the residual iron concentration and the production of siderophores at the indicated times while culturing S. aureus ATCC 6538 and 25923 strains in brain heart infusion broth. By using streptonigrin susceptibility test and investigating growth curves in three culture media of which iron concentration is 0.2, 20, 45 uM, respectively, we found out that iron metabolism of 6538 strain was more active than that of 25923 strain. In point of tendency of iron consumption, 6538 strain steeply consumed iron just before the onset of stationary phase, but 25923 strain did gradually iron throughout the growth phase. Nevertheless, total amount of iron consumed by each strain during the growth was almost no difference between the strains. CAS diffusion assay in detecting siderophores showed that siderophore production followed iron consumption. These results suggest that the siderophores play significant role in iron utilization in vitro.

We observed the changes of IOP after contact transscleral cyclophotocoagualtion with Diode laser which emit 810mm beam and we tride to investigatethe suitable level and range of energy when Diode laser was applied to the refractory glaucoma patients. Fifteen eyes underwent contact transscleral cyclophotocoagulation with energy 3J(Group A, 6eyes), 4J(Group B, 9eyes) separately and intraocular pressure(IOP) was measured at 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 2 month, 3 month, 4month, 5month, 6month, postoperatively. The intraocular pressure(IOP) decreasing rate was 83.02% in A group and 64.72% in B group. The success rate was 50% in A group and 66.7% in B group at 6 month postoperatively. It is suggested that contact transscleral cyclophotocoagulation with Diode laser si useful in lowering IOP in refractory glaucoma patients.
