Syringomas are relatively common benign adnexal tumors that are usually located on the lower eyelids, although affecting other areas, including cheek, axillae, abdomen and vulva. Acral syringomas, located on distal extremities are vary rare and there is only one case reported in Korea. We report a case of a healthy 21-year-old woman with multiple, reddish brown syringomas located on both forearms and the dorsa of hands. The histologic findings were typical of syringomas.

2.Pharyngostomum cordatum (Trematoda: Alariidae) collected from a cat in Korea.
The Korean Journal of Parasitology 1981;19(2):173-174
Ten adult worms of Pharynogostomum cordatum were recovered from a cat instesine purchased in August 1980 at the Namdaemun Market, Seoul, Korea. It is the first case report of cat pharyngostomiasis in Korea.

4.AgNOR Counts in S-phase Human Cells.
Korean Journal of Pathology 1999;33(2):103-107
The nucleolus of human cell is a morphologically well recognizable nuclear organelle and the argyrophilic NORs (AgNORs) are nucleic acid-argyrophilic nonhistone protein complex in the nucleoli and the silver staining allows their identification and enumeration at the light microscopic level. The AgNOR counts are in parallel with mitotic activity and vary in different phase of cell cycle. It has been reported that human cells have one AgNOR during interphase and S-phase. However, the correlation between the number of AgNORs and S-phase markers is still controversial and they have never been studied simultaneously. In this study, AgNOR and PCNA were stained simultaneously to find out the relationship of AgNOR counts with cell cycle (S-phase) in human palatine tonsil, gastric carcinoma, liver and brain tissues. S-phase cells (PCNA-positive) were found predominantly in lymphoid follicles in palatine tonsil but gastric carcinoma showed diffuse immunoreactivity for PCNA. The AgNOR counts varied according to the type and locus of tissue. More than one AgNOR were identified in S-phase cells and some of hepatocytes and neurons in the brain which were not in S-phase contained two or more AgNORs. The above results suggest that the number of AgNOR is a characteristic feature of each type of cells and can be more than one even in S-phase.

6.Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Yeungnam University Journal of Medicine 2007;24(1):1-10
The chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome (abbreviated CFIDS or CFS) is a disorder characterized by debilitating fatigue(over 6 months), along with cognitive, musculoskeletal, and sleep abnormalities. The etiology of this illness is unlikely to be a single agent. Findings to date suggest that physiological and psychological factors work together to predispose and perpetuate the illness. Diagnosis is made difficult by the nonspecific clinical findings and no available diagnostic testing. With no known cause or cure for the chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome, treatment is based on relieving symptoms and improving the quality of life of affected patients. There is emerging evidence that chronic fatigue syndrome may be familial. In the future, studies will examine the extent to which genetic and environmental factors play a role in the development of chronic fatigue syndrome. Most patients with CFS have psychiatric problems such as a generalized anxiety disorder, or major or minor depression, therefore, these mental health disorders may be correlated with the pathophysiology of the CFS. The treatment for CFS must be individualized, due to the heterogeneity of the CFS population. Also the treatment of CFS is built on a foundation of patient-physician relationship, respect and advocacy.

A 66-year-old female patient had a firm, non-tender, dome shaped mass on the scalp. The lesion had enlarged slowly for 2 years, and measured about 4 × 6 cm. The histologic finding of the skin biopsy specimen demonstrated an infiltration of immature plasma cells in the dermis, which express monoclonal cytoplasmic lambda light chain by immunohistochemical stainings, and staging work-up after the biopsy revealed no evidence of disease in other foci. The mass on the scalp was treated successfully by radiation therapy, with the diagnosis of primary cutaneous plasmacytoma.
