Korean Circulation Journal 1994;24(6):910-915
Myocardial bridging is defined as segmental engulfment of a major epicardial coronary artery by myocardial fibers, causing a systolic narrowing or milking effect of the coronary arterial segment. During systole, the intramuscular part of coronary artery is compressed by contraction of overbridging ventricular muscle, therefore blood flow distal to the lesion is impaired and angina pectoris or acute myocardial infarction may occur. We experienced a case of Non-Q myocardial infarction in a 42 years-old female patient with myocardial bridge at the proximal and middle part of left anterior descending coronary artery.

The Korean Journal of Hepatology 1999;5(4):322-331
BACKGROUND/AIMS: As a tumor marker, alpha-etoprotein is widely used. Diagnositic cut-ff value is known as 400 ng/mL in sera. This study is aimed to determine the clinical features of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with reference to serum AFP levels in Korean patients. METHODS: From May 1990 to March 1998, 367 patients diagnosed as HCC, hospitalized and followed-p at Hanyang University Hospital, have been retrospectively analyzed with special reference on serum AFP level at time of diagnosis. The differences in clinical, hematological, and radiological features of HCC, as well as the survival rate in the two groups have been compared. Group 1 (N=182) was defined as an AFP level lower than 400 ng/mL, group 2 (N=185) was defined as an AFP level greater than 400 ng/mL. Comparisons were made by student's t test or chi-quare test. Survival rate was calculated from the time of diagnosis by Kaplan-eier method. Survival curves were also compared using log-ank test. P values less than 0.05 were considered significant. RESULTS: The patients with serum AFP levels above 400 ng/mL showed (1) a lower mean age; (2) a higher level of AST; (3) a higher level of AST/ALT ratio; (4) a high incidence of liver cirrhosis; (5) a high incidence of portal vein thrombosis; (6) a high incidence of positive HBsAg; (7) a low incidence of anti-CV; (8) a low incidence of small HCC but high incidence of large HCC; (9) a high incidence of more advanced TNM stage; (10) a low incidence of single nodular type and high incidence of diffuse type. CONCLUSIONS: Depending on the value of AFP, HCC has some clinical features. In hepatocellular carcinoma, high levels of AFP represent young age, HBV infection more than HCV infection and advanced disease state.

The Journal of the Korean Rheumatism Association 2002;9(1):78-82
Pulmonary hypertension is an uncommon but serious complication of systemic lupus erythematosis (SLE).Usually its outcomes are ominous and may progress to heart failure and even sudden death. The pathophysiology is still unknown, but several mechanisms, such as pneumonitis, vasculitis, thromboembolism or thrombosis in situ have been proposed. There is no definitive therapy for this condition.Although supportive measures with vasodilators remain the mainstay of treatment, the responses are generally disappointing. We describe a case of improvement of pulmonary hypertension in SLE treated with cyclophosphamide pulse therapy as documented by hemodynamic data. Immunosuppressive treatment with cyclophosphamide was effective in this condition, suggested an immune mediated pathogenesis.

Archives of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery 2014;20(3):165-168
BACKGROUND: Keloid management can be difficult and frustrating, and the mechanisms underlying keloid formation are only partially understood. Despite many studies of the pathogenesis and cause, little is known of the predisposing factors or the diathesis. Therefore, we evaluated patients with keloid for 13 years clinical experience, with the goal of considering the causative factors and physical disposition of keloid. METHODS: We evaluated 107 patients (38 males, 69 females; median age 22.31 years, range 7-58 years) who visited the department of plastic and reconstructive surgery from March 1998 to December 2010. The patients' chart and clinical photo were reviewed for the study. RESULTS: Etiologies were an intended wound like piercing or surgical wound (n=39), avulsion flap injury (n=30), laceration (n=29) and burn (n=9). The location were the head and neck (n=38), trunk (n=23), upper extremity (n=21), lower extremity (n=16) and face (n=9). Patients with more than overweight (>23 kg/m2, Body mass index) were 84 in 107 patients (78.5%) with keloids. CONCLUSIONS: In the care of the keloids, patient information, particularly sex, age and body mass index, it may be useful indicators for expecting prognosis of the patients and treating with proper management. Particularly, large-scale accurate follow-up observations on obese patients will be critical.

Korean Journal of Medicine 2002;62(4):475-481
Bleeding and thrombocytopenia are important adverse effects of abciximab. The incidence of abciximab-induced acute profound thrombocytopenia (APT) is low. APT is defined as an abrupt drop in platelet count to <20,000/microL that occurred within 24 hours of administration of an abciximab. This is distinct from all other types of drug-induced thrombocytopenia, which requires a period of drug administration to induce sensitization. If APT occurs and is left untreated, it can cause serious hemorrhage and ischemia that may be fatal. In this case, a 45-year-old man with acute myocardial infarction was administered a bolus intravenous injection of abciximab (0.25 mg/kg), followed by a 12-hour continuous infusion (10 microgram/min) during primary coronary angioplasty. We report a case of APT that was recognized at 2 hours after the initiation of abciximab infusion and was corrected without serious complications.

Journal of the Korean Academy of Family Medicine 2006;27(1):7-11
BACKGROUND: Recently, many studies have reported that university students have been suffering from stress because of their the uncertainty of their future and employment. Eating habits have often been considered as one of health-related behaviors that may be affected by life stress. The purpose of this study was to examine the association between stress and eating habits in university students. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was designed. The subjects were 282 university students which assessed their eating habits and stresses. The total numbs of students in the study 263. Eating habits were scored using a questionnaire consisting of three categories-regularity, balance, and preference. The stress was assessed by modified Korean version of BEPSI. RESULTS: The stress score was 2.4 and the total score of eating habits was 44.2. The regularity among the domains of eating habits was 14.1, the balance score was 16.1, and the preference was 14.0. In multiple regression after adjustment with confounding variables, stress had a negative relationship with eating habits. CONCLUSION: The relationship between stress and eating habits was statistically significant, especially in regularity and balance. It is important to know not only the health status, but also the factors associated with health such as stresses and eating habits in order to improve the health status of the university students. Further research needs to uncover causality and make a generalization.

Korean Journal of Clinical Pharmacy 2016;26(4):341-347
BACKGROUND: Liver cirrhosis causes substantial socio-economic burden and is one of the major severe liver diseases in Korea. Nonetheless, there is only a few studies that analyzes disease burden of liver cirrhosis in Korea. Such study must be carried out due to its increasing need from the invention of new drugs for chronic hepatitis and demand for cost-effectiveness analyses. METHODS: Patient sample data with ensured representativeness was analyzed retrospectively to compare the medical costs and uses for patients with compensated cirrhosis and decompensated cirrhosis. Patient claims data that include K74 and K703 from the year of 2014 were selected. Within the selected data, decompensated cirrhosis patient was identified if complications such as ascites (R18), encephalopathy (B190), hepatic failure (K72), peritonitis (K65), or esophageal varices (I85) were included, and they were compared to compensated cirrhosis patients. RESULTS: 6,565 patients were included in the analysis. The average cost per patient was 6,471,020 (SD 8,848,899) KRW and 2,173,203 (4,220,942) KRW for decompensated cirrhosis and compensated cirrhosis, respectively. For inpatients, the average hospitalized days was 38.0 (56.4) days and 27.2 (57.2) days for decompensated cirrhosis and compensated cirrhosis, respectively. For outpatients, the average number of visits was 8.7 (9.1) days and 5.3 (7.5) days for compensated cirrhosis and decompensated cirrhosis, respectively. CONCLUSION: Compared to compensated cirrhosis patients, decompensated cirrhosis patients had higher costs, especially for hospitalization, injection, examination, and drugs administrated within medical institutions.
