Baboon syndrome is used to denote a systemic allergic contact dermititis with a characteristic color and distribution pattern. It is also referred to as mercury exanthem, because inhalation of mercury vapor usually causes the skiri lesion in a sensitized person. Diffuse pi,ikish erythema of the buttock, upper inner thigh, and axilla are characteristic features. We report a case of baboon syndrome developed after exposure to the smoke of a burning amulete a charm written on a piece of paper in a 12 year-old female. Mercury sensitivity was confirrned by a patch test. Atomic absorption by a spectrographic method and Scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive for analysis X-ray detected mercury in the urine and the ed scraped pigments from the amulet, respectively.

There have long been a lot of controversies on the treatment of unstable thoracolumbar spine fracture, and the role of decompression is also controversial. Compression of the neural elements by retropulsed bone fragments can be relieved indirectly by the reduction with posterior instrumentation or directly by the exploration of the spinal canal through a posterolateral or anterior approach. There is no universal agreement about the indications for each of these method. Authors analyzed the result of 24 cases of thoracolumbar spine fracture which had been operated by anterior decompression and Kaneda instrumentation from the February 1990 to May 1993 at Inha general hospital. The results were as follows: 1. The most common cause of injury was falling from a height, 20 cases (83.3%). And the 12 cases were in the 4th decade, with an average age of 37.7 years. 2. According to McAfee classification, there were 7 stable(29.2%) and 15 unstable bursting fractures(62.5%). And the most common level of injury was L1(11 cases, 45.8%). 3. Neurologic status was improved one or more grade(Frankel grade) in 21 cases except one case of complete paraplegia. 4. The average correctional angle of kyphotic deformity was 13.1° immediate postoperatively, and the loss of correction(average, 6.7°) was observed during the follow-up period. 5. The segmental instability was found at the level below the fusion in three cases during the follow-up period. 6. There was neither failure of instrument, dislodgement of graft bone nor lateral wedging during the follow-up period.

PURPOSE: The study tried to suggest the ways to improve the national disability welfare information projects with evaluating the present condition of the projects. METHOD: Firstly, the study analyzed the disability information system and disability websites. Secondly, the study found out the problems of the registration of disability and management system through the situation analysis. Finally, the study conducted a survey of the disabled and the information system workers and performance evaluation of the information system. RESULTS: The study offered a proposal of The Disability Unity Management System(DUMS) for the disability registration and management. When the disabled visit the hospital or the public health center, their information is registered automatically in The Disability Unity Management System(DUMS), which helps not to miss out the disability registration. Through this system, they are given the proper service which they need, and the information can be shared with the facilities providing the service for the disabled. CONCLUSION: The Disability Unity Management System(DUMS) contributes significantly in avoiding the repetition of the support for the disabled and improving the quality of service.

BACKGROUND: Clinical and radiologic evaluation and analyses of the surgeries using Buechel and Pappas (B-P) knee implants. METHODS: The study was conducted on 60 patients who underwent 94 total knee replacement arthroplasty with B-P knee implants from May 2009 to December 2010. The results were compared to the results of 41 patients who underwent 60 knee joint surgeries using NexGen-LPS implants from January 2008 to August 2009. RESULTS: The American Knee Society score of the B-P knee group increased from an average of 66.9 (clinical score) and 65.5 (functional score) to 93.4 and 90.3, respectively; while those for the NexGen-LPS group increased from an average of 68.8 (clinical score) and 62.4 (functional score) to 86.3 and 76, respectively. The average ranges of motion of the B-P knee group and the NexGen-LPS group were 119.1degrees and 114.8degrees, respectively, before surgery and improved to 121.0degrees and 123.0degrees at final follow-up after the surgery. The visual analogue scale scores for the B-P knee group and the NexGen-LPS group improved from 4.7 and 4.6 to 1.4 and 1.8, respectively. The flexion contracture also improved from 5.1degrees and 6.3degrees to 0.64degrees and 1.72degrees. The tibio-femoral angle for the B-P knee group and the NexGen-LPS group also improved greatly after the surgery, from varus 0.34degrees and 0.73degrees each to valgus 6.7degrees and 6.9degrees, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The evaluation of more than 2 years of total knee replacement arthroplasty using B-P knee implants showed good results. B-P knee implants showed a relatively higher degree of satisfaction in clinical knee score and less intraoperative bone mass removal than NexGen-LPS implants.

There is an increasing need for revision of the femoral stem due to a high frequency of total hip arthroplasty. Recently, many orthopedic professionals are paying particular attention to the durability of revision arthroplasty. This review article includes the most recent information and published studies about revision of the femoral stem. It is ordered as follows: preoperative evaluation, surgical planning, surgical approaches, implant removal, reimplantation, perioperative complications and clinical results according to implant type.

Background: Fluvastatin is the first entirely synthetic 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A(HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor. Clinical data indicate that this agent exhibits the proven efficacy of its class and also has some theoretical advantages in safety for long-term use because of its unique pharmacololgic property consistent with hepatoselectivity(i.e., low systemic exposure). This study is to evaluate efficacy and safety of fluvastatin in hypercholesterolemic patients in Korea. Methods: An open clinical trial with fluvastatin was conducted in 31 subjects who continued to have high blood cholesterol levels of 6.21 mmol/L(240 mg/dl) or greater after 1 month of lipid-lowering diet plus single blind placebo period. Fluvastatin was administered for 8 weeks with the initial dose of 20 mg per day and if serum cholesterol levels did not fall below 5.20 mmol/L(200 mg/dl) after 4 weeks the dose was increased to 40 mg per day for the second 4 weeks. The ankle joint is a modified complex hinge joint which plays an important role in weight bearing, walking and standing. Hence, the ankle injuries include not only fractures of bone but often also the rupture of ligaments and soft tissues, so if the structures were not accurately repaired, many complications may be developed. The authors have reviewed a series of 70 cases of ankle fractures which were treated in department of orthopaedic surgery of Inha hospital from January 1988 to February 1992. Among the seventy cases, 41 patients (59.4%) were male, and 28 patients (40.6%) were female. Average age was 41.4 years and 3 cases (4.35%) were open fracture. The most common cause was slipping 34 cases (48.6%) and the other causes were traffic accident 23 cases (32.9%), fall from height 6 cases (8.6%), direct blow 5 cases (7.0%) and sports injury 2 cases (2.9%) in order. The rusults obtained form this study were as follows. l. According to the classification fo Lauge-Hansen, the most common fracture mechanism was supination-external rotation injury (24 cases: 34.4%). 2. Among them, 51 cases were treated by operative treatment and 19 cases by conservative treatment. 3. Ten cases (14.3%) in this series were complicated; traumatic arthritis in 7 cases, infection in 2 cases and nonunion 1 case. 4. Open reduction and internal fixation and early anatomical reduction were better than closed reduction and delayed reduction. 5. The incidence of traumatic arthritis occured higher in the cases treated with closed method.
