Resorcin is widely being used in the fields of the therapeutics, cosmetics, industry, but allergic contact dermatitis is an infrequent adverse reaction. We have experienced a case of allergic contact dermatitis to resorcin. A 59-year-old male with Kaposi's sarcoma on the right foot developed linear erythematous vesicular eruption along the marking areas 4 days after application of Castellanis paint, used as a skin marking solution for radiation therapy. He showed patch test positive reaction to Castellani's paint as well as its individual components, resorcin and phenol.

Actinomycosis is an oppoturnistic infection of actinomyces, which are relatively avirulent endogenous oral commensals. After trauma or infection, they breach the normally protective mucosal barriers to invade adjacent soft tissue structures. Lesions routinely contain other bacteria, the normal resident flora at the site of primary infection, which act synergistically with actinomyces species to provoke this unique infection, which range from an acute suppurative process to a chronic fibrotic process. According to epidemic studies about pelvic actinomycosis, it should be significantly related to IUD(intrauterine device). It is accounted that IUD cause chronic intrauterine infection, tissue injury and act as nucleus for parasitic infestation. Here we present a case of pelvic actinomycosis related to IUD with brief review of the concerned literature.

8.Application of Hemin-Agarose Affinity Chromatography to Enrich Proteome Components of Helicobacter pylori Strain 26695.

Journal of Bacteriology and Virology 2005;35(2):77-85
The whole cell extract of Helicobacter pylori strain 26695 was treated with the hemin-agarose resin and the bound fraction was analyzed by 2-Dimensional electrophoresis. The 2-D-PAGE-displayed spots were eluted and analyzed by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS). Among the 120 spots processed, 94 protein spots were identified to represent 58 genes. Forty-five protein spots that represented thirty-four genes were newly identified in this study, including iron-containing proteins and hemin-containg proteins such as fumarate reductase, iron-sufur subunit(FrdB), ribonucleoside diphosphate reductase, beta subunit (NrdB), glutamyl-tRNA reductase (HemA), nikel-cobalt-cadnium resistance protein (NccB), and porphobilinogen deaminase (HemC).

Journal of Korean Neuropsychiatric Association 2011;50(4):280-287
OBJECTIVES: To identify various factors that might affect stigmas affecting outpatients with schizophrenia, and to further clarify the effects of both factors affected by the treatment and other factors on stigmas in a clinical setting. METHODS: Of patients who had been receiving outpatient treatments at the Donga University Hospital Department of Psychiatry and those who had been attending the community mental health center and community psychiatric rehabilitation center, 178 patients with a DSM-IV diagnosis of schizophrenia with stable symptoms were enrolled in this study. In these patients, through an interview or self-reporting, we assessed stigmas (the Korean version of Mental Health Consumers' Experience of Stigmas), psychiatric symptoms (the Korean version of the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale), social functions (the Korean version of the Social Functioning Scale), insight (the Self-Appraisal of Illness Questionnaire), empowerment (a Consumer-Constructed Empowerment Scale), and self-esteem (Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale). In more detail, we performed an ANOVA in consideration of 11 factors (age, gender, the level of education, economic status, the duration of disease, the frequency of hospitalization, symptoms, insight, self-esteem, empowerment, and social functions) as explanatory variables for stigmas. RESULTS: On a multiple regression analysis using backward elimination, the following five factors were found to be significant explanatory variables for stigmas that are experienced by outpatients with schizophrenia : the disease of duration, self-esteem, insight, age, and gender. The coefficient of determination for these five explanatory variables was 0.44. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, our results showed that five factors were found to be significant explanatory variables for stigmas that are experienced by outpatients with schizophrenia. These five factors were the duration of the disease, self-esteem, insight, age, and gender. Because these five variables accounted for only 44% of total stigmas, however, further studies in a larger group of patients are warranted to identify other factors that might affect stigmas.
