1.Arthroscopic Electrocautery Treatment for Pseudoaneurysm of Inferomedial Genicular Artery after Arthroscopic Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction and High Tibial Osteotomy
The Korean Journal of Sports Medicine 2023;41(1):50-53
Knee arthroscopy is a widely performed procedure with few complications and low risk. Vascular complications are also very rare, and pseudoaneurysm is one of the few serious vascular complications. It occurs frequently in the popliteal artery but rarely occurs in the genicular artery. Pseudoaneurysms are caused by damage to the blood vessel wall due to various causes such as trauma and local extravasation. Depending on the size or location, surgical treatments such as intervention embolization or ligation are performed. In this study, after arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, a pseudoaneurysm of the medial inferior branch of genicular artery occurred near the arthroscopic medial portal site and the lesion was treated successfully with arthroscopic electrocautery.

PURPOSE: Several studies have suggested that vitamin D deficiency has significant effects on muscle weakness, injury and illness, and ultimately, exercise performance. However, studies on vitamin D status and deficiency related factors for young athletes are still lacking. METHODS: Four hundred athletes who have undergone serum vitamin D (D2 and D3) test were studied. Vitamins were classified into three groups (deficiency, insufficiency, and adequacy). Blood sampling time was classified into four groups (spring, summer, fall, and winter). RESULTS: Of the 400 athletes, 31.5% were deficient, 48.25% were insufficient, and 20.25% were adequate in vitamin D. The group with lower vitamin D levels was older, had a higher body weight, and had higher body mass index. Comparisons by sex were significantly lower in female athletes than male athletes for indoor sports. Seasonal comparisons were significantly lower in winter than in spring, summer, and autumn. When the correlation analysis between the characteristics of the athletes and vitamin D was analyzed, there was a weak negative correlation between age and body mass index and height and weight were not related. Athletes' vitamin D levels are higher than the general population, but about 80% of them have vitamin D deficiency. CONCLUSION: Vitamin D deficiency causes exercise performance and performance deterioration; therefore, it is necessary to monitor and manage more closely when there are related factors.

3.Intra-Osseous Nerve Transposition in Iatrogenic Injury of the Superficial Peroneal Nerve: Two Case Reports
Journal of Korean Foot and Ankle Society 2022;26(1):54-58
Superficial peroneal nerve (SPN) injuries happen occasionally during surgical treatment of fibular fracture, lateral ankle ligament repair, etc. These injuries are caused because of the variable location of the SPN. It is the injuries are usually treated by steroid injections or anticonvulsants. However, neural symptoms may not respond to treatment and may persist and progress to a painful neuroma. Intractable pain may need surgical treatment. We examined two cases of iatrogenic postoperative SPN injury, and we treated them with transection of the SPN and the intraosseous transposition of the proximal nerve stump using the thrombin-fibrinogen complex with satisfactory outcomes. We report these two cases with a review of the relevant literature.
