1.Preliminary Study for the Development of the Korean Version of Self-Compassion Scale.
Korean Journal of Psychosomatic Medicine 2011;19(1):34-40
OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study is to test the reliability of the Korean version of self-compassion scale (K-SCS). METHODS: The total of 484 participants were included in this study. Reliability studies were conducted and internal consistency were examined. RESULTS: The internal consistency of the K-SCS was 0.76, and test-retest reliability was 0.53. CONCLUSION: The K-SCS appeared to be a reliable instrument for assessing self-compassion in Korean population. If supplements further studies of the validity, this scale may be applicable in clinical trials, research, clinical practice.
2.The Relationship among Powerlessness, Social Support and Life Satisfaction in the Elderly People.
Journal of Korean Academy of Community Health Nursing 2006;17(1):65-73
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the correlation between the feeling of powerlessness, social support and life satisfaction in the elderly. METHODS: The subjects were 158 old people aged over 65 who were attending one of one college and three settlement houses for senior citizens located in B city. RESULTS: The relationship between the feeling of powerlessness and life satisfaction was in a moderate negative correlation with each other (r=-.433, p=.000). The relationship between social support and life satisfaction was in a moderate positive correlation with each other (r=.410, p=.000). It was found that the higher social support was, the higher life satisfaction was. There was remarkable difference in the form of family (F=2.69, p=.023), the form of residence (F=5.29, p=.002), whether to belong to a group (F=2.26, p=.025). CONCLUSION: For the reasons stated above, as the feeling of powerlessness is lower and social support is higher, life satisfaction is higher. The results clearly show that in order to improve life satisfaction of the elderly, we need to ease their feeling of powerlessness and enhance social support to them. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a nursing intervention program to reduce powerlessness and to improve social support for the elderly.

3.Sleep Problems in Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Young Hui YANG ; Ji Hoon KIM ; Jin Seong LEE
Sleep Medicine and Psychophysiology 2013;20(2):53-58
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is characterized by persistent deficits in social communication and restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior and interest. Sleep problems are not uncommon in children with autism spectrum disorders. Symptoms of insomnia are the most frequent sleep problems in individuals with ASD. Sleep problems can cause significant difficulties in the daily life of children with ASD and their families. Genetic factor, deregulations of melatonin synthesis, extraneous environmental stimuli and psychiatric and medical conditions may cause sleep problems. The first line treatment of sleep problems in ASD includes managements for potential contributing factors and parent education about sleep hygiene care for child and behavioral therapy. Supplementation with melatonin may be effective before considering other medications, such as risperidone, clonidine, and mirtazapine.

Journal of the Korean Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery 1999;5(2):293-304
The nasal tips of Orientals are different from those of caucasians with are characterized by flat nose and bulbous nasal tip appearance because of its thick and tense skin, shory columella, flaring of nostrils, and restriction of nasal tip projection due to underdevelopement of medial crus of alar cartilage. For better nasal tip definition and projection, alar carilage must be realigned and tip might be augmented with autogenous cartilage onlay graft. Furthermore in patient with short columella, strut formation might be performed because the nostril comprises two-thirds of height of nasal tip. If the nasal tip is prjected without lengthening of columella, sometimes we noted unnaturally tented appearance of nasal tip may result. Also for the soft tissue lengthening in columella in proportion to the nasal tip projection, the short columella can be lengthened with columella based V-Y advancement. Surgical approach through alar rim incision or open rhinoplasty incision may be employed depending upon the severity of tip defomity. If flattening is severe to enough require lengthening of the columella, open rhinoplasty incision is the best choice. Through the incision, the alar cartilage is dissected freely from the skin and vestibulsr mucosa. Cartilage grafts are performed using carilage onlay graft or columella strut formation after transdormal fixation suture. This study presents clinical cases of various nasal tips in the view of nasal tip deformity which were corrected with various operative methods using combined technique of approximating the alar cartilage and a multilayered autogenous onlay cartilage graft on the nasal tip harvested from the auricular cartilage, also Silicone implant was used for augmetation of nasal dorsum and columella strut formation with columella base V-Y advancement. The ten years of our experience with nasal tip plasty in over one hundred patient showed excellent result and no complications were observed during post operative follow-up so we are reporting these cases with review of literature.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 2014;55(5):746-749
PURPOSE: To report a case of acquired lacrimal fistula caused by silicone tube remnant. CASE SUMMARY: A 56-years-old female who suffered from purulent discharge in inner skin of the right lower eyelid visited our clinic. Lacrimal fistula was found in the skin at the medial side of the right lower eyelid. The patient reported that she had a silicone tube intubation operation 3 years prior due to a nasolacrimal obstruction of right eye. On syringing test, saline solution and purulent discharge were drained from the fistula skin opening and there was no nasolacrimal obstruction. After admission, antibiotic treatment and potadine soaking dressing were performed to facilitate spontaneous closing of the lacrimal fistula. However, the lacrimal fistula relapsed and lacrimal fistulectomy and bicanalicular silicone tube intubation were performed. During surgery, silicone tube remnant material not totally extubated at the lacrimal sac was found which we removed. Postoperatively, systemic antibiotic therapy was administered and the chronic inflammation improved. CONCLUSIONS: We report a case of lacrimal fistula caused by silicone tube remnant in the lacrimal sac. Acquired lacrimal fistula caused by a silicone tube remnant can be treated by fistulectomy and silicone tube remnant removal.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1995;33(4):513-519
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to analyze the CT features of the cystic masses in the neck and to review differential diagnosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed and analyzed the CT findings of 22 histopathologically proved, cystic neck masses in regard to the location in fascial plane and relationship with adjacent organ. RESULTS: Of 22 cases, ten congenital cysts two ranulas, seven inflammatory lesions, and three solid tumors were includded. Ten congenital cystic masses were located in typical locations as branchial cleft cyst(5) in mandibular angle, thyroglossal duct cyst(3) in visceral space embeded within the strap muscles, cystic hygroma(1) and cavernous hemangioma(1) in posterior cervical space with insinuating appearance. Two cases of ranula included one simple ranula localized in sublingual space and a plunging ranula extending to adjacent submandibular space. Seven cases of inflammatory lesions were characterized by multispatial locations and good contrast-enhancement of walls and adjacent tissue. Solid masses of low density mimicking cyst were two pleomorphic adenomas of submandibular gland and one neurilemmoma. CONCLUSION: It is considered that thorough analysis of the CT findings with attention to typical location, CT appearance, and the relationship with the adjacent structures usually leads to the correct diagnosis.
