Korean Journal of Legal Medicine 2014;38(4):155-166
Suicide notes are essential for investigating the psychological state of suicide victims and establishing suicide prevention programs. Since only a few studies have attempted to identify the causes of suicidal behavior through suicide notes, it would be worth examining suicide notes. Quantitative research on suicide has offered a limited understanding of suicide. Results showed that the suicide victims had used the suicide note as a tool for their last communication. Further, in addition to neutral contents such as directions for funeral, the note often contained information about precipitating events that caused the suicidal ideation. Writing a suicide note seemed to help the victims consider concrete plans for suicide. This study proved that qualitative research on suicide notes would be helpful for researchers to understand suicide victims in depth, which cannot be achieved by quantitative methods alone. Based on these results, several suggestions for suicide prevention programs were discussed.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between osteoporosis and periodontal condition in postmenopausal women. Twenty-eight patients who have been treated at Chonnam national university hospital with osteoporosis(osteoporotic group, mean age62.2+/-6.6) and 21 normal postmenopausal women with periodontitis(control group, mean age60.4+/-3.7) were examined. Bone mineral density(BMD) of lumbar spine(L2-L4) was measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiomemtry(DEXA). Percentage to peaked bone mass in osteoporotic group was 70.9% which had lower BMD than in control group(p<0.05). The number of present teeth were 23.6 in osteoporotic group and 23.1 in control group, Percentage of bleeding on probing was 41% in osteoporotic group and 37% in control group, probing depth and attachment level were shown 3.18 mm, 3.63 mm in osteoporotic group and 2.85mm, 3. 11 mm in control group, respectively. Probing depth and attachment level were significantly greater in osteoporotic group than in control group(p<0.05). The significant negative correlation was found between BMD level and periodontal attachment level(p<0,001, ?=-0. 56). These results suggest that osteoporosis may be associated with periodontal breakdown.

Journal of the Korean Cancer Association 1998;30(2):414-420
The incidence of multiple primary cancers is low than that of single primary cancer. In gastric cancer, incidence of occurrence of multiple primary cancer is 3 to 11.3%. Because stomach and lung are unrelated organs, the combination of gastric cancer and lung cancer is rare. Its estimated incidence is about 10% of all multiple primary cancers. The histologic types of secondary lung cancer in one series, squamous cell carcinomas were 49%; adenocarcinomas were 28%; large cell carcinomas were 14%; small cell carcinomas were 9%; others were 6%. This patient had been diagnosed as early gastric cancer 3 years ago, but he refused operation for cancer and wasnt followed up. After 3 years, he revisited us for dry coughing and diagnosed as small cell lung cancer. At this time, previous gastric cancer was remained as well differentiated, early gastric adenocarcinoma. For its rarity, we report this case with review of literatures.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1990;28(3):321-330
A clinicopathological study was made on 17 case with leukemia cutis diagnosed in a period of 10 years frorn 1980 to 1989 in Seoul Xational University I-lospital. The results were summarized as follows : 1. There were 4 cases with acute lyrnphocytic leukernia, 7 with acute myelocytir. leukemia (AML), 5 with chronic myelocytic leukemia (CML), 1 with eosinophilic leukemia. 2. The clinical appearance of leukemia cutis included nodules (88.2%), papules, macules, plaques and ulcerative lesions. Leukemia cutis dis not show any discernible clinical qppearance with each different type of leukemia. 3. Leukemia cutis showed a wide spectrum of histopathologic features, diffuse infiltration, patchy infiltration with linear infiltration between collagen bundles, perivascular and peridnexal involvement, perivascular involvement, and mainly subcutaneous tissue involvement. There was no distinctive histopathologic pattern with each different type of leukemia. 4. The demonstration of intracytoplasmic chloroacetate esterase and lysozyme was helpful to refine the diagnosis of leukemia cutis.
