In order to evaluate the confounding factors of neurobehavioral tests and the neurobehavioral effects in the workers exposed to organic solvents, NCTB was carried out on 100 workers. 46 workers had never been exposed to neurotoxic substances, and the others were being exposed to the solvents, mainly toluene. Simple reaction time, digit symbol, Santa Ana dexterity test and persuit aiming were different with age in non exposure group. Simple reaction time was carried out well in males, and digit symbol and persuit aiming were in females. There was no difference at educational level when the subject was educated over 12 years. Santa Ana dexterity and Benton visual test differed according to exposure level to toluene, however simple reaction time didn't. The acute neurotoxic effect was not excluded in this study. But, NCTB could be used to evaluate and prevent neurobehavioral changes in workers exposed to neurotoxic solvents in Korea.

PURPOSE: Few epidemiologic studies have investigated aggressive periodontitis in Koreans, but such studies of disease prevalence and other clinical characteristics would be invaluable in providing proper treatment. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of aggressive periodontitis and to measure the extent of associated periodontal breakdown. METHODS: The study population consisted of 1,692 patients who visited the Department of Periodontology, Wonkwang Daejeon Dental Hospital from January to December, 2010. Clinical parameters (probing depth, gingival recession, periodontal attachment loss) were measured by a single examiner, and radiographic examination was performed at the baseline. RESULTS: Twenty-eight (1.65%) patients showed clinical features of aggressive periodontitis, of which 27 patients exhibited the generalized form, and 1 exhibited the localized form. There was no significant difference between the percentage of male and female patients. The probing pocket depth of the maxillary first molar was deeper than that of the other teeth and gingival recession was also the most serious at the maxillary first molar. The periodontal attachment loss was the highest at the maxillary first molar. The average number of missing teeth was 1.29 per subject. Loss of the second molar was prominent. CONCLUSIONS: Within the limitations of this study, the periodontal breakdown evaluated by attachment loss was found to be most severe at the first molars of aggressive periodontitis patients. However, further large scale multicenter studies are necessary to access more precise data, including prevalence.

Intrameduallary spinal hemangioblastoma is frequently associated with syringomyelia. It grows slowly and can be removed totally. Syringomyelia can be subcided by total removal of tumor and opening of syringomyelia. Two cases of intramedullary spinal hemangioblastomas associated with syringomyelia are reported. Intramedullary tumor and syrinx was easily diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). They are successfully managed by total removal of tumor and opening of syrinx. Patients showed improved neurological status after operations.

Augmentation cystoplasty is effective in the rehabilitation of the contracted bladder of small capacity caused by tuberculosis or interstitial cystitis refractory to more conservative methods of management. Genitourinary tuberculosis is the most common cause of contracted bladder in Korea and it may lead to considerable vesicoureteral reflux and progressive deterioration of renal function. The use of hemi-Kock ileal pouch with an afferent intussuscepted nipple is a suitable solution in patient in whom the bladder outflow tract provides adequate resistance and supratrigonal cystectomy is to be performed with construction of an antireflux mechanism. Herein, we report 4 cases of hemi-Kock ileocystoplasty.

The reliability of emergency ultrasonographic(US) detection of hemoperitoneum and solid organ injury in blunt abdominal trauma was evaluated retrospectively. From October 1,1995 to August 31,1996,90 patients were included in the study. Ultra- sonographic findings showed a sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of 97.6%, 97.9%, and 98.1%, respectively, in detecting intraabdominal fluid collection. We believe that US in an emergency center is a quick, safe screening method in the evaluation of blunt abdominal trauma. In our department, US has replaced diagnostic peritonaeal lavage(DPL) and computed tomography(CT) as the screening study of first choice.

0.05). 2. At the total success rate, osteotome group was 92.4% and Hatch reamer group was 94.9%. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). 3. On the discomfort during the operation by using numerical rating scale, osteotome group was 2.87 +/- 0.83 and Hatch reamer group was 1.12 +/- 0.64. There was statistically significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.05). The Hatch reamer group' clinical results was similar to osteotome group and we thought that Hatch reamer technique can overcome the faults of osteotome technique.]]>

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Lobular capillary hemangioma (pyogenic granuloma) is a benign rapidly growing hemorrhagic lesion of unknown etiology and vascular proliferation of endothelial cells arranged in a characteristic pattern of circumscribed capillaries arranged in lobules. The disease usually affects the skin and the oral mucosa, but nose is a relatively rare location. The clinical impression of some lesions can often be misleading due to easy bleeding mass. The purpose of this paper is to present a series of patients seen over a period of 10 years at Inje University Pusan Paik Hospital with nasal capillary hemangioma. MATERIALS AND METHOD: We assessed 19 patients who were confirmed as lobular capillary hemangioma histopathologically and treated at Inje University Pusan Paik Hospital from 1988 to 1998. RESULTS: The study group was composed of 19 patients including nine males and ten females. The ages ranged from 3 to 58 years, with a mean of 36.6 year and four of the ten female patients were pregnant. Epistaxis with nasal obstruction was the most marked symptom. Eight lesions arose from the nasal septum, 7 from the inferior turbinates, 8 from the lateral nasal wall and one from the nasal floor. The size of masses ranged within 1 cm in 11 of the 19 cases. All patients were treated by simple excision and electrocauterization, with only one showing recurrence. CONCLUSION: Uncommon lesions should also be considered in the differential diagnosis of a rapidly growing hemorrhagic lesion if they are within the nasal cavity. Clinical and histological diagnostic pitfalls occur frequently.

Gastric metaplasia of the duodenum, defined as the presence of groups of gastric mucosal cell within normal duodenal epithelium, is an almost constant feature of duodenal ulcer. The pathogenesis of gastric metaplasia is unclear, but acid and Helicobacter pylori infection are contributory factors to the development of gastric metaplasia. Generally, endoscopic finding of gastric metaplasia in duodenum is typically patchy distribution in duodenal bulb, but polypoid gastric metaplasia in duodenum is very rare. We report that the patient who complaints of abdominal pain has a villous, polypoid gastric metaplasia in duodenal bulb without duodenal ulcer.
