Condylomata acuminata are benign tumors which are mostly venereally transmitted. Common sites were coronal sulcus, perisnal area and prepuce. Among 28 patients, 21 acuminate lesions and 10 papular lesions were found. Twenty eight human genital warts in Korean were analysed by Southern blot hybridization. Sequences related to HPV6/11 are found in 89.3%(25/28) of the condylomata. HPV16 DNA was not found at sll. Subtype of HPV was determined by the restriction pattern of DNA cleaved with PstI restriction enzyme in 7 cases. Six cases of HPV6a and one case of HPV6c are found. The above results suggest that most of condylomata acuminata are caused by HPV6 and HPV11 in Korea.

Crouzon syndrome, an autosomal dominant disorder, has characteristic features of craniosynostosis, hypertelorism, exophthalmos, maxillary hypoplasia and relative mandibular prognathism. Mutations of fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2) gene are associated with craniosynostotic conditions, such as Crouzon syndrome, Jackson-Weiss syndrome, Pfeiffer syndrome, Apert syndrome and Beare-Stevenson cutis gyrata. We found one child with common morphological features of Crouzon syndrome. Interestingly, she was found to have Cys342Ser mutation in FGFR2 exon lllc which has been previously observed in Jackson-Weiss syndrome. This finding supports the variable expression of FGFR2 in human and allelic heterogeneity in these apparently clinically distinct craniosynostotic conditions.

Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases 2000;48(1):45-53
BACKGROUND: The literature on variations of rib is limited. Very little has been written in the radiological journal of this country on the subject. It seemed of interest to investigate the nature and incidence of congenital variations in a series of routine chest roentgenograms. The topic of rib variations has not been covered extensively in the radiological journals in Korea. This has presented an opportunity to investigate the nature, type, shape and incidences of congenital rib variations in normal Korean adults from a series of routine roentgenograms. METHODS: Chest radiographs of 5,000 adults (,) who visited our hospital for a routine check-up or for employment physical examinations from January 1996 to September 1998, were consecutively reviewed. The sex distribution consisted of 2,827 male males and 2,173 females (ratio of 1.3:1) with the age range between 19 and 65 years (mean age: 34.6 years). The chest PAs was were analyzed for the presence, type, location, and shape of the rib variations (.) From this data, and we the incidence of each type of variations was calculated. RESULTS: Seventy-six of the 5000 adults (1.52%), 63 male (2.23%) and 13 female (0.6%), showed 88 cases of rib variation (Table 1). Bifid rib (n=35) was the The most common variation was the bifid rib (n=35), followed by hypoplasia of the rib (n=22), flaring of the rib (n=18), bridging of the ribs (n=7), cervical ribs (n=3), and fusion of between ribs (n=3) (Table 2). (New paragraph)Bifid The bifid rib (Table 1) was found most frequent in the right fourth rib (12/35, 34.3%), followed by the left fifth rib (6/35, 17.1%) and right third rib (6/35, 17.1%). Hypoplasia of the rib was common in first rib (20/22, 90.9%). Flaring of the rib was common at fourth rib (8/18. 44.4%, right and left combined) (,) and bridging between ribs was common between first and second rib (3/7, 42.9%). CONCLUSION: The percentage of incidence of rib variations in adults was 1.52%. Bifid rib was the most common variation, followed by hypoplasia, flaring, bridging, cervical rib, and fusion of ribs(,) in decreasing order.

Intracranial headaches, including migraines, are mediated by nociceptive activation of the trigeminal nucleus caudalis (TNC), but the precise mechanisms are poorly understood. We previously demonstrated that selective blockage of spinal sigma-1 receptors (Sig-1R) produces a prominent antinociceptive effect in several types of pain models. This study evaluates whether the Sig-1R antagonist (BD1047) has an antinociceptive effect on capsaicin (a potent C-fiber activator) induced headache models in rats. Intracisternal infusion of capsaicin evoked pain behavior (face grooming), which was significantly attenuated by BD1047 pretreatment. BD1047 consistently reduced capsaicin-induced Fos-like immunoreactivity (Fos-LI), a neuronal activator, in the TNC in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, capsaicin-induced phosphorylation of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor subunit 1 was reversed by BD1047 pretreatment in the TNC. These results indicate that the Sig-1R antagonist has an inhibitory effect on nociceptive activation of the TNC in the capsaicin-induced headache animal model.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 2021;82(4):923-935
Purpose:
We aimed to assess the clinical efficacy of transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) for treating hemothorax caused by chest trauma.
Materials and Methods:
Between 2015 and 2019, 68 patients (56 male; mean age, 58.2 years) were transferred to our interventional unit for selective TAE to treat thoracic bleeding. We retrospectively investigated their demographics, angiographic findings, embolization techniques, technical and clinical success rates, and complications.
Results:
Bleeding occurred mostly from the intercostal arteries (50%) and the internal mammary arteries (29.5%). Except one patient, TAE achieved technical success, defined as the immediate cessation of bleeding, in all the other patients. Four patients successfully underwent repeated TAE for delayed bleeding or increasing hematoma after the initial TAE. The clinical success rate, defined as no need for thoracotomy for hemostasis after TAE, was 92.6%. Five patients underwent post-embolization thoracotomy for hemostasis. No patient developed major TAE-related complications, such as cerebral infarction or quadriplegia.
Conclusion
TAE is a safe, effective and minimally invasive method for controlling thoracic wall and intrathoracic systemic arterial hemorrhage after thoracic trauma. TAE may be considered for patients with hemothorax without other concomitant injuries which require emergency sur-gery, or those who undergoing emergency TAE for abdominal or pelvic hemostasis.

Journal of the Korean Surgical Society 2012;83(2):97-101
PURPOSE: Bile duct dilatation after cholecystectomy continues to be a matter of controversy. We aimed determine the magnitude of common bile duct (CBD) dilatation after cholecystectomy followed up to 1 year. METHODS: Sixty-four cases (age, 47.3 +/- 11.7 years; men, 28; women, 36) enrolled in this study. They received laparoscopic cholecystectomy in Chungbuk National University Hospital for symptomatic cholelithiasis or gallbladder polyps with normal bile duct, less than 7 mm. The CBD diameter was measured by one radiologist using ultrasonography at the maximum point after full length evaluation of extrahepatic bile duct. Forty-five and thirty-one cases were followed at 6 months and 1 year, respectively. RESULTS: The CBD was dilated slightly from 4.1 mm at baseline to 5.1 mm at 6 months and 6.1 mm at 12 months after cholecystectomy. The number of cases of CBD dilatation of more than 7 mm at 6 months and at 12 months after cholecystectomy were 11 (24.4%) and 9 (29.0%), respectively. Seven cases at 6 months and 5 cases at 12 months showed bile duct dilation of more than 3 mm compared to baseline. There were no cases having bile duct dilation of more than 10 mm. CONCLUSION: Postcholecystectomy dilatation of the bile duct occured slightly in most cases. But some cases showed more than 3 mm dilatation over baseline. Asymptomatic bile duct dilatation of up to 10 mm can be considered as normal range in patients after cholecystectomy.
