We report herein s case of subcutaneous aspergillosis in a 41-year-old woman with lumbar spondylitis(L4~L5). The patient had received high doses of corticosteroids and broad-spectrum antibiotics and two times of operation due to lumbar problems. The diagnosis of Aspergillus fumigatus infection was established by the mycologic study of cultures from wound exudate and histopathologic examination of the second surgical specimens of subcutaneous soft tissue, which was assumed to be iatrogenically susceptible infection. Intravenous amphotericin B therapy was discontinued because of the immediste adverse effects. After twelve-week therapy of oral ketoconazole(400mg/day), open wound healed and spondylitis with neurologic signs eventually resolved. No evidence of recurrent infection was noted during six months of follow-up.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1989;27(3):254-262
Many carcinomas have an active mononuclear cell infiltrates surrounding tumor. Various in vitro assays have shown that cellular constituents of peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMC) can alter growth of carcinoma cell line. Author compared the effects of normal fibroblasts on squamous cell carcinoma cell line(SCL-1) along with those of sctivated and/or nonactivated PBMC on SCI 1 using a skin equivalent system. This system prevents direct cellular contact by growing SCL-1 on an overlying Millicell-HA membrane and normal fibroblast or supernatants of PBMC in a lower chamber. Normal fibroblasts enhanced the outgrowth of SCL-1 and induced a more organized phenotype of SCL-1. Supernatants from nonstimulated PBMC suppressed outgrowth of SCL 1, and concanavalin A stimulated PBMC supernatants alterd rnorphology of cultured SCL-1 from a disorganized phenotype to a more organized phenotype. It is concluded that fibroblasts and PBMC may affect the growth and differentiation of SCL-1 via their mediators(cytokines)

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1988;26(1):90-93
Forytfour-year-old female inpatient, who was gravely ill, developed vesicobullae on the greenish patches surrounded by narrow red to brown halo in the left lower extremity. Two years ago, she had treated by surgical operation and radiation therapy for cervix cancer. Blood and bullous fluid cultures showed Pseudomonas aeruginosa. She developed gangrenous and mummificated skin lesions after septic shock therapy but died due to disseminated intravascular coagulation.

The rhabdomyosarcoma of the prostate is very rarely encountered in the western literature, and only a few reports have been published in Korea. The authours recently experienced two cases of rhabdomyosarcomas of the prostate in 35-year-old and 51-year-old males who had suffered from gross hematuria and difficulty of urination. Microscopic studies showed embryonal type of rhabdomyosarcoma in two cases. The clinical and pathological features of the distinctive prostatic rhabdomyosarcoma are described, and a brief review of the literature is made.

BACKGROUND: A number of factors can cause dark circles around the eyes including excessive pigmentation, thin and translucent lower eyelid skin overlying the orbicularis oculi muscle, and shadowing due to skin laxity and tear trough. Autologous fat graft is an effective method for the treatment of lower lid dark circles, but irregularities caused by leaving visible lumps of the fat can occur. Tonnard et al. suggested 'nanofat' grafting and introduced its characteristics and clinical applications. The authors used their nanofat grafting to correct lower eyelid dark circles. METHODS: Nanofat grafting was performed in 19 patients for dark lower eyelids. The grafts were injected into subdermal layer using blunt cannula. Microfat grafting with nasojugal fold was performed to all the patients. Among them, 18 patients received transconjunctival fat removal at the same time. RESULTS: All the patients showed much improvement from preoperative dark coloration. There were no visible lumps of fat, contour irregularities, or fat necrosis. Postoperative edema and ecchymosis were minimal. CONCLUSIONS: Nanofat grafting methods provide a good alternative for correcting dark circles by augmenting thin skin with lower complications. This simple, cost effective procedure is suitable for correction of dark circles and various skin rejuvenation purposes.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1992;26(1):71-75
Agenesis of the dorsal pancreas is one of the rare congenital anomalies of the pancreas. Six cases of them have been reported. We have experienced an autopsy case of agenesis of the dorsal pancreas associated with fetal death in the uterus. Grossly, the body and tail of the pancreas and uncinate process were not found and those were partially replaced by adipose tissue. No abnormality was noted in the other organs. Microscopically, pancreatic tissue with autolytic change was identified only in the head portion of the pancreas.
