1.Effects of Job Crafting and Job Engagement on Career Management Behavior among Public Institution Nurses: Mediating Effect of Job Engagement

Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of job crafting, job engagement on career management behavior among public institution nurses and to investigate the mediating effect of job engagement.
Methods:
This study was a descriptive survey, with 176 public institution nurses working in seven institutions participating. Structured questionnaires were used, collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics independent t-test, One-way ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficient, multiple regression analysis with SPSS statistics 26.0 program.
Results:
Career management behavior were significantly associated with job crafting (β=.52, p<.001), job engagement (β=.20, p=.015). These variables explained 48.0% of career management behavior. Also, job engagement had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between job crafting and career management behavior.
Conclusion
Findings indicate that the relationship between job crafting and career management behavior among public institution nurses is mediated by job engagement. Strategies for enhancing career management behavior among public institution nurses should be considered to enhance job crafting and job engagement. The results can contribute to the establishment of a human resource management system for public institution nurses.
2.Randomized, Double-blind, Placebo-controlled Clinical Trial for the Evaluation of the Efficacy and Safety of Artemisia and Green Tea Extract SD1003F in Volunteers with Helicobacter pylori-associated Gastric Discomfort

BACKGROUND/AIMS: A previous study showed that dietary intervention with Artemisia and green tea extracts, i.e., SD1003F, relieved Helicobacter pylori-associated chronic atrophic gastritis in a mouse model. We continue the research through the current randomized double-blind clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the intervention for H. pylori-associated gastric discomfort. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-nine volunteers who tested positive for H. pylori infection received either placebo or SD1003F for 10 weeks and their functional dyspepsia-related quality of life (QOL) was evaluated. H. pylori infection using a urea breath test (UBT), measurement of pepsinogen level using GastroPanel. Adverse effects with biochemical changes were also evaluated. RESULTS: SD1003F administration significantly improved health related-QOL, including dietary intake, emotional stability, life pattern, and social factors relevant to gastric discomfort, in comparison to the control (P < 0.05). The mean UBT measurement significantly decreased in the SD1003F group (P < 0.05). In 2 of the 24 volunteers, SD1003F alone eradicated H. pylori infection, with significant improvements in endoscopic findings. GastroPanel analysis revealed significant improvements that reflect rejuvenation of gastric atrophy in the SD1003F group. No significant side effect was observed in any participant. CONCLUSIONS: SD1003F (Artemisia and green tea extract), is a potential phytochemical to improve H. pylori-associated gastric discomfort.

3.Tiotropium Bromide Improves Neutrophilic Asthma by Recovering Histone Deacetylase 2 Activity

Background:
The value of tiotropium bromide (TIO) in neutrophilic asthma was meaningful in previous study. We hypothesized that TIO’s mechanism of action is associated with histone deacetylase 2 (HDAC2) activity, which is key for controlling the transcription of inflammatory cytokines and usually downregulated in neutrophilic asthma.
Methods:
The effects of TIO and dexamethasone (DEX) on HDAC2 activity, nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), and C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 1 (CXCL1) were evaluated in neutrophilic asthma mouse model (C57BL, 6-week-old). An in-vitro study was conducted using primary human bronchial/tracheal epithelial (HBE) cells from asthma patients.Western blot analyses were performed for phospho-phospholipase Cγ-1 (PLCγ-1) and inositol trisphosphate (IP3 ) receptors (IP3 R) with treating lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and TIO.
Results:
Ovalbumin was used to induce eosinophilic inflammation in this study. After neutrophilic asthma was induced by LPS (O+L group), HDAC2 activity was diminished with increased NF-κB activity and CXCL1 compared to the control group. TIO significantly improved NF-κB activity, CXCL1, and HDAC2 activity compared with the O+L group in in-vivo study (P < 0.05, each). Western blot analyses showed that LPS treated HBE cells from asthma patients increased PLCγ-1 and diminished IP3 receptor levels. After TIO treatment, recovery of IP3 R and improved PLCγ-1 levels were observed.
Conclusion
These results support the hypothesis that TIO modulates inflammation by recovering HDAC2 activity from the acetylcholine-stimulated inflammation cascade in neutrophilic asthma. The detailed inflammation cascade of recovering HDAC2 activity by TIO might be associated with PLCγ-1-IP3-IP3R mediated intracellular calcium ion pathway.
