The results of alpha-acetyldigoxin(Dioxanin(R)) administration in 21 patients with congestive heart failure were as follows. Alpha-acetyldigoxin is a new oral preparation of cardiac glycoside derived from lanatosid C. 1. For rapid digitalization in 2-3 days, the initial dose was 1.2 to 2.6mg (average 1.96mg). For medium-fast digitalization in 4 days, the loading dose was 2.0 to 3.2mg (average 2.7mg). For slow digitalization 0.1 to 0.4mg was required for 5 to 6 days without loading dose. The maintenance dose was 0.1 to 0.4mg (average 0.33mg) daily. 2. The therapeutic effect of acetyldigoxin was excellent in 15 cases (71%), good in 4 cases (20%) and stationary in 2 cases (9%). 3. Side effects were observed in 2 cases with usual dosage regimen. One accidental case who took single dose of 4mg(20 tablests) developed supraventricular tachycardia with varying degree of atrioventricular block, ventricular bigeminy and premature beat but recovered completely after 6 days.

BACKGROUND: Obesity not only does increase the incidence of breast cancer, but also affects the course of treatment, recurrence and mortality. This study aims to evaluate on the obesity status of Korean breast cancer survivors and their obesity-related lifestyles. METHODS: The study included 125 Korean female breast cancer survivors aged over 19 year old enrolled in the 2009-11 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Women who answered 'yes' to the question 'have you ever been diagnosed breast cancer by a physician?' was defined as a breast cancer survivors. Height, weight, and waist circumference were measured and Body mass index (BMI) was calculated. Body fat percent was assessed by dual X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Standardized surveys by trained interviewers were used to investigate survivors' obesity-related lifestyles such as physical activities, sleeping hours and nutrients intake. RESULTS: 48.4% of Korean breast cancer survivors were obese. 44.7% had abdominal obesity and 89.2% had body fat percent over 30. Their physical activity level was generally low; only 22.5% maintained health-enhancing level of physical activities. Fat intake (14.4 [0.8] %) was as low and carbohydrate intake (74.2 [1.2] %) was high. However, daily dietary fiber intake was low (10.5 [1.1] g). Factors that were found to be significantly related with obesity in Korean breast cancer survivors were low education level (P=0.042), smoking (P<0.001), having chronic diseases (P=0.002) and short sleeping hours (P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: It is mandatory for physician to evaluate obesity status of breast cancer survivors as soon as their diagnosis and give proper intervention to maintain healthy weight and healthy obesity related lifestyle.

Journal of the Korean Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine 2003;27(6):984-989
OBJECTIVE: To determine the clinical usefulness of voice analysis to predict the risk of aspiration. METHOD: The patient population consisted of 93 patients undergoing video fluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) to evaluate the risk of aspiration. The voice analyses were performed before and after VFSS using a portable recorder and voice analysis. The parameters included Average Fundamental Frequency (Fo), Relative Average Perturbation (RAP), Shimmer Percent, Noise to Harmonic Ratio (NHR), and Voice Turbulence Index. RESULTS: The patients were divided into two groups accord ing to VFSS findings, non-aspiration group (including patients without vocal cord contact) and aspiration group (including patients with vocal cord contact). In comparing the differences of acoustic parameters before and after VFSS, all parameters except Fo were significantly different (p<0.05). When the cut-off point was set to 0.3, the RAP was the most significant parameter given that the sensitivity was 0.911 and the specificity was 0.979. Combining RAP and NHR, the sensitivity was 1.000 and the specificity was 0.771. CONCLUSION: Voice analysis is a very convenient and effective diagnostic tool in clinically evaluating the risk of aspiration.

Journal of Korean Biological Nursing Science 2021;23(4):330-338
Purpose:
This cross-sectional study aimed to identify factors affecting coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination intention.
Methods:
For an anonymous online survey, recruitment notices were posted on an anonymous community by each university, and an online survey was conducted through online form from June to July 2021. COVID-19 knowledge and health-protective behavior were measured using a questionnaire based on previous literature and reflecting the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID-19 Response Guidelines. The psychological antecedents of vaccination were measured by 5C scale.
Results:
Two-hundred and ninety-four college students (women 67.3%) answered the survey; 179 (60.9%) reported that they would accept a COVID-19 vaccine. The mean scores for COVID-19 knowledge and health-protective behavior were 22.97 ± 5.33 (out of 35) and 9.92 ± 2.22 (out of 12), respectively. For the psychological antecedents of vaccination, the mean scores for confidence, collective responsibility, calculation, complacency, and constraints were 4.45 ( ± 1.24), 5.61 ( ± 1.09), 5.09 ( ± 1.18), 2.42 ( ± 1.11), and 2.37 ( ± 1.19) out of 5 points, respectively. The confidence, calculation, and collective responsibility were associated with vaccination intention. Additionally, the top reason for those who were less prone to accept vaccination against COVID-19 was concern about vaccine safety.
Conclusion
The higher the confidence in the vaccine and the higher the collective responsibility, the higher the vaccination intention. As it is a factor related to an individual’s perception of COVID-19 information, it is necessary to increase confidence in the vaccines through obtaining accurate information on the safety, effectiveness, and side effects of the COVID-19 vaccines and vaccination.

We investigated the use of Polycaprolactone (PCL)/β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) composites with applied mechanical stimulation as scaffold for bone tissue engineering. PCL-based three-dimensional (3D) structures were fabricated in a solvent-free process using a 3D-printing technique. The mass fraction of β-TCP was varied in the range 0–30%, and the structure and compressive modulus of the specimens was characterized. The shape and interconnectivity of the pores was found to be satisfactory, and the compressive modulus of the specimens was comparable with that of human trabecular bone. Human mesenchymal stem cells were seeded on the composites, and various biological evaluations were performed over 9 days. With a mass fraction of β-TCP of 30%, differentiation began earlier; however, the cell proliferation rate was lower. Through the use of mechanical stimulation, however, the proliferation rate recovered, and was comparable with that of the other groups. This stimulation effect was also observed in ECM generation and other biological assays. With mechanical stimulation, expression of osteogenic markers was lower on samples with a β-TCP content of 10 wt% than without β-TCP; however, with mechanical stimulation, the sample with a β-TCP content of 30 wt% exhibited significantly greater expression of those markers than the other samples. We found that mechanical stimulation and the addition of β-TCP interacted closely, and that a mass fraction of β-TCP of 30% was particularly useful as a bone tissue scaffold when accompanied by mechanical stimulation.

Korean Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy 2011;43(1):64-68
Eosinophilic gastroenteritis is an uncommon disease characterized by eosinophilic infiltration in the bowel wall and presents various symptoms depending on the affected site and bowel layer. Pseudomembranous colitis is an antibiotic-associated infection caused by abnormal overgrowth of the toxin-producing Clostridium difficile in the large bowel. A 16-year-old boy was admitted with abdominal pain for 6 days. On admission, we performed an endoscopy and diagnosed gastroduodenitis. Then, we prescribed gastritis medication but he still presented with diffuse abdominal pain and fever above 38.0degrees C after admission. We considered infectious enterocolitis, so we prescribed an antibiotic. The next day, he presented with bloody diarrhea. A diagnosis of pseudomembranous colitis was confirmed by a colonoscopic examination with a biopsy. We also obtained a diagnosis of eosinophilic gastroenteritis through a histological diagnosis. This is the first case of the simultaneous occurrence of eosinophilic gastroenteritis and pseudomembranous colitis in the Korean medical literature. We report this case with a brief review of the literature.

Copper sulfate ingestion is a rare cause of corrosive gastrointestinal injury in the Republic of Korea. In developing countries, copper sulfate is chiefly used for agricultural purposes as a pesticide and in the leather industry. It is also used in school science classes in the form of bright blue crystals. Copper sulfate is a powerful oxidizing agent that is corrosive to mucous membranes. Concentrated solutions are acidic, with a pH of 4. We report a case of corrosive gastritis and esophagitis due to accidental copper sulfate ingestion in a 12-year-old boy.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to compare perinatal outcomes of pregnancy-induced hypertensive and normotensive women experiencing abruptio placentae, Our hypothesis is that pregnancy-induced hypertensive women have a less favorable perinatal outcome than do normotensive women. METHODS: Women with the diagnosis of abruptio placentae delivered between August 1, 1989 and December 1, 1996, composed the study group (n=92) in this case-control study. The women with abruptio placentae were divided according to their hypertensive (n=37) or normotensive (n=55) status. Maternal and neonatal medical records were reviewed and abstracted for demographic variables, antepartum complications, delivery route, abruptio placentae grade, neonatal gender, birth weight, Apgar score and perinatal mortality. We compared these perinatal outcome variables between the pregnancy-induced hypertensive and normotensive pregnant women. RESULTS: The incidence of abruptio placentae was 0.35%. The two groups of woman wne similar with regard to age and parity. Abruptio placentae grades 2 occurred more often in hypertensive women (P=0.0053). Pregnancy-inducedhypertensive women were similar to normotensive women with regard to antenatal complications. The mean gestational age of delivery, delivery route, neonatal weight and sex were similar between two groups of women. Neonates from pregnancy-induced hypertensive women were no more likely to have low 1 and 5-minute Apgar score or to die than those from normotensive women. Statistical analysis was performed with two-tailed independent t-test and Kruskal-Wallis analysis. CONCLUSION: Although pregnancy-induced hypertensive women experiencing abruptio placentae are more likely to have grade 2 abruptio placentae with fetal distress, the overall perinatal outcome was not significantly different from that of normotensive women experiencing abruptio placentae.
