1.Injuries and Illnesses of Korean Athletes during the Almaty Winter Universiade Games 2017.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to describe the pattern of injuries and illnesses among Korean athletes during the Almaty Winter Universiade 2017. METHODS: All medical staffs of Korean team recorded the daily occurrence of injuries and illnesses sustained during the Almaty Winter Universiade Games by using a standardized online form via kociss.com. The design of this study was a prospective study. RESULTS: In total, 98 athletes (68 men and 30 women) in 11 sports events from Korean Sport Olympic Committee participated in this study. Korean medical staffs reported 40 injuries (40.8%) and 26 illnesses (26.5%), equaling incidences of 6.3 injuries and 4.1 illnesses per 100 athletes. Men suffered more injury and illness than women (44.1% vs. 33.3%). The rate of Injury and illness in training was higher than the competition (13.3 vs. 2.0 athlete exposures). The risk of an athlete being injured was the highest in freestyle skiing, followed by snowboard and speed skating. Overall, the main common type and location of injury was the joint or ligaments sprain (13.3%) and knee (7.1%). The rate of main illness was 17.3% of the respiratory system with the main symptom of pain and the main cause of environment (22.4%). CONCLUSION: Injuries and illnesses occurred 40.8% and 26.5% during this winter game, and were higher during training than a competition. Based on the epidemiologic data of this study, it could provide the source for the injury prevention and improving the performance of the athlete and further develop scientific injury and illness surveillance systems.

2.Status analysis and educational needs assessment for Ghana National Ambulance Service personnel in the Oti region: a cross-sectional study

Objective:
Although Ghana National Ambulance Service (NAS) personnel are being assigned to various scenes following formal training for 1 or 2 years, it is unclear if they have sufficient capacity to handle lengthy and long-distance patient transport in various emergencies. This study examined this through an analysis of referral patients in a typical rural area of Ghana and a survey of NAS personnel.
Methods:
Cases of the patient group transported by NAS personnel were abstracted from the referral patients’ chart of Worawora Government Hospital (Oti region, Ghana). These charts were analyzed according to age, sex, diagnosis, and outcome. A self-assessment survey was also conducted to estimate the confidence NAS personnel had in their abilities.
Results:
According to the records from the Worawora Government Hospital, from January to June 2021, 770 patients were admitted, including 126 obstetrics and gynecology patients (18.0%) and 124 trauma patients (17.7%). Sixty-nine patients (9.8%) who had already been transferred from lower-level hospitals were re-transferred to teaching hospitals. Among these, 33 were trauma patients (47.8%). In the survey, NAS personnel showed high confidence in the patient evaluation section, but they showed relatively low confidence in treating obstetrics and gynecology patients.
Conclusion
NAS personnel in the Oti region frequently encounter obstetrics and gynecology patients, as well as trauma patients, but they appear to lack the knowledge and skills required to transport such patients. Supplementation of knowledge and technical education in these fields is essential to ensure proper prehospital management.
3.A Survey on the Current Working Conditions and Job Satisfaction on Aquatic Therapy Performed by Physical Therapists

PURPOSE: This study assessed the current working conditions and job satisfaction on aquatic therapy performed by physical therapists in South Korea. METHODS: A total of 139 (managers: 53, staff: 86) physical therapists participated in this survey (90 questionnaires) and the data were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 Windows. RESULTS: The retention conditions of aquatic therapy facilitation was high in the rehabilitation centers (or disabled living facilities) and rehabilitation hospitals. On the other hand, there were regional variations. The physical therapists in this field were likely to have limitations or restrictions of professional aquatic therapy education. The subjects showed a tendency for a career interruption during their fifth working year. The overall job satisfaction on aquatic therapy of physical therapists was high (managers: 94.3%, staff: 95.3%, p=0.276), but the work intensity was higher than the other parts of physical therapy and the relative reward was comparatively low (managers: 60.3%, staff: 66.3%, p=0.865). CONCLUSION: Based on this study, the current working conditions regarding aquatic therapy by physical therapists were assessed. These results will help enhance aquatic therapy and/or in aquatic therapy facilitation.

4.Diagnosing Polypoidal Choroidal Vasculopathy Using Color Fundus Photography, Optical Coherence Tomography, and Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography

Purpose:
To compare the diagnostic accuracy of differentiating polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) from exudative age-related macular degeneration (AMD), using color fundus photography (CFP), optical coherence tomography (OCT), and swept-source OCT angiography (SS-OCTA) without using indocyanine green angiography (ICGA).
Methods:
Treatment-naive eyes with exudative AMD that underwent CFP, OCT, SS-OCTA, and ICGA imaging before treatment were identified. Images of each patient were categorized into two sets (set A, CFP + OCT; set B, CFP + SS-OCTA). In set B, both the en face and cross-sectional B scans were analyzed. Each set was reviewed by two graders, and it was determined whether the presumed diagnosis was PCV. Sensitivity, specificity, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for the diagnosis of PCV were assessed for each set by comparing diagnoses that included ICGA. The number of polypoidal lesions in each set was calculated and compared to ICGA.
Results:
A total of 94 eyes from 94 patients with AMD were included in the study, of which 66.0% were male, and the mean age was 71.8 ± 9.0 years. The PCV diagnosis rate using ICGA was 45.7%. The sensitivity was 0.88 for set A and 0.93 for set B, while the specificity was 0.94 for set A and 0.96 for set B. The AUC was 0.90 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.83–0.97) for set A and 0.96 (95% CI, 0.90–1.00) for set B. Set A detected 1.28 ± 0.91 polypoidal lesions, while set B detected 1.47 ± 1.01; ICGA showed 1.51 ± 0.86.
Conclusions
This study highlights that, without using ICGA, both CFP combined with OCT and CFP combined with SS-OCTA demonstrate high sensitivity, specificity, and AUC in diagnosing PCV. It is evident that SS-OCTA contributes to enhancing sensitivity, specificity, and AUC for PCV diagnosis.
