Nonoperative treatment of scapular body fractures has shown good clinical results. Although scapula fractures of the inferior angle, particularly with oblique lines from the medial proximal to lateral distally, are very rare, we believe that such a fracture pattern would be regarded as an avulsion fracture of the serratus anterior muscle requiring surgery. We have experienced three cases demonstrating pseudowinging of the scapula due to displacement of the inferior angle fracture of the scapula. Surgical repair or plating showed satisfactory clinical results. Through these cases, we describe the cause of winging scapula and the problems resulting from an avulsion fracture of the serratus anterior muscle with a review of the relevant literature and explain the reason that an operation is needed for this fracture pattern.

Fractures of the acromial process or the coracoid process of scapula are rare, and this is usually the result of direct trauma to the shoulder. This type of fracture is often neglected, but it can be detected by performing careful evaluation. We report here on an unusual case involving a fracture of the coracoid process along with concomitant acromial fracture.

The authors report two unusual tumors detected in the right scapula and around left aciatic nerve. Although fibromatosis is benign tumor, the nature is notorious for an aggreasive clinical couras with a tendency to recur in high percentage. Recently we have encountered two instances of fibromatosis, and presented with abort discussion of the clinical pathologic aspects with some review in literatures.

Gorham's syndrome is a rare disorder involing a proliferation of vascular channels associated with extensive loss of bony matrix. It starts in bone, but it may secondarily involve soft tissue and adjacent bones. Although the osteolysis usuakky arrests spontaneously, its biologic behavior is difficult to predict. The mechanism of steolysis is unkown, and the role of osteoclasts is controverwial We have experienced one case of Gorham's syndrome affecting the scapula and clavicle, which is reported in this paper with brief review of literature.

Statement of Problem. Objective and quantitative measurement of implant stability is very important from implant installation to long-lasting maintenance period thereafter. Purpose of study. This study was to evaluate and compare two ISQ and PTVs on the implant stability measurements according to the increased effective implant length. Materials and Methods. Twenty self-tapping fixtures were installed in the bovine scapula and in 10 of those for group I, ISQ and PTVs were obtained in the vertical/horizontal directions according to the increased effective implant length using OsstellTM and Periotest? After stability measurement, removal torques were measured between the after installation and after thread exposure group. Results. ISQ and PTVs showed decreased and increased values according to the increased abutment length. Apart from PTVs, ISQ values were shown higher in horizontal direction to the long axis of bone in both the after installation and the after thread exposure groups. Removal torque values were shown higher in after installation group. Conclusion. From the results of this study, implant stability measurement using resonance frequency analysis was more sensitive and discriminative than PTVs measurement.

The coracoid process is a bony projection arising from the antero-lateral aspect of the scapula. The variation in the height and length of the coracoid process are responsible for altered size and shape of the space between the coracoacromial arch and the rotator cuff. The study was conducted on sixty-four dry adult human scapulae of unknown age and sex with a view to elucidate the morphological and osteometric details. The length of coracoid process on right side was 41.01±3.55 mm and it was found to be 40.88±3.83 mm on left sided. The breadth of coracoid process was observed as 13.93±1.13 mm and 13.25±1.26 mm on right and left side respectively and the difference between the two sides was statistically significant (p=0.026). Thickness of the coracoid process was 8.59±1.32 mm and 8.01±1.16 mm in right and left sided scapulae. The acromiocoracoid distance was found to be 38.48±4.03 mm on right side and 35.51±3.83 mm on left sided scapulae and the difference between to the two sides showed high statistically significance (p=0.004). Mean coracoglenoid distance was noted 26.23±3.05 mm and 24.94±2.75 mm on right and left sided scapulae respectively. Values of the thickness of coracoid process recorded in the present study are at appreciable variance with the result of previous study. The coracoid process constitutes an important component of the scapular glenoid construct and is involved in many surgical interventions on the glenohumeral joint. Comprehension of standard morphometric details of the coracoid process is vital in traumatic cases, surgical interventions and replacement surgeries in the shoulder region.

A hemangioma doesn't often involve the scapula and concurrent high scapular deformity is also too. We present a case of capillary left scapula hemangioma at its superior angle with Cavendish grade 2 high scapular deformity treated by surgical intervention. Excision of the hemangioma and resection of the fibrous band attached to the superior angle of the scapula resulted in symptomatic and cosmetic improvement. Even though the causality between the two lesions is not clear, we cannot exclude the possibility that the hemangioma contributed to the development of high scapular deformity.

PURPOSE: The present study was to investigate effects of scapular position and pain on a trunk stabilization exercise with gym ball for patients with arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. METHODS: Subjects were patients after 2 weeks of rotator cuff repairs. Subjects were randomly assigned to conservative treatment group (CTG, n=10) or trunk stabilization with gym ball group (SBG, n=10), and participated one of those groups for 2 weeks. Measurements about pain and scapular position were assessed in before and after treatment programs. RESULTS: Pain reduced in both rest and night in SBG compared to CTG. In the case of scapular position, decreased scapular retraction (increased protraction) was found in CTG and vice versa in SBG. Reduced scapular anterior tilting was also found on SBG. CONCLUSION: The present study showed that early performed trunk stabilization with gym ball could bring a scapular alignment that increases subacromial space and reduces pain. This suggests early trunk stabilization with gym ball programs to restore shoulder functions for patients with rotator cuff repair.

PURPOSE: Scapular dyskinesis is an alteration in the normal position or motion of the scapula during coupled scapulohumeral movements. Vast majority of shoulder pathologies are known to be related with scapular motion abnormalities. Because there being enthusiasm about scapular pathology in recent literatures, understanding scapular dyskinesis seems to be an important subject. The authors describe the importance of scapular abnormality in terms of shoulder pathology. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Usually the inhibition or disorganization of activation patterns in scapular stabilizing muscles lead to scapular dyskinesis. This motion abnormality has more important values in Elite Athletes because it might be the sign of future shoulder pathology; for example, SLAP and internal impingement. Treatment of scapular dyskinesis is directed at managing underlying causes and restoring normal scapular muscle activation patterns by kinetic chain-based rehabilitation protocols. Treatment is also important to prevent secondary shoulder injuries. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Understanding scapular pathology may be the main key to approach to the shoulder pathology. Also treating scapular pathology might be important in preventing secondary shoulder injuries.
