Malignant tumors arising from tendon and aponeurosis are very rare. Among those reported most have been interpreted as synovial sarcoma or fibrosarcoma until Enzinger in 1965 described a new type which he called “Clear Cell Sarcoma of Tendon and Aponeurosis”. The tumor has a uniform and distinctive clinical and morphological pattern which distinguishes it from other groups of tenosynovial tumors. The problem of its histogenesis remains, especially its relation to synovial sarcoma. In this paper, we reported one case which is believed to be “Clear Sarcoma in the thigh”.

We report a case of malignant melanoma of soft parts presented with a hard mass on the dorsum of the left second toe. Malignant melanoma of soft parts has also been known as clear cell sarcoma of tendons and aponeuroses, which indicates the histologic feature of clear cell predominance and the origin of tumor cells, tendinous or aponeurotic structures. Although our case presented with many characteristic clinicopathologic features of malignant melanoma of soft parts, diagnosing this case as malignant melanoma of soft parts was made with great difficulty because of a rather unusual finding that the major cell component of neoplasm was spindle shaped cells in stead of clear cells. Cases featuring this distinctive histopathologic finding have not been reported individually to our knowledge, but described briefly in the literature. We think this case deserves special attention because of its close resemblance to various sarcomas.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 2009;45(2):112-114
Clear cell sarcoma (CCS), also called malignant melanoma of soft parts, is a rare malignant soft tissue tumor and is often associated with tendons or aponeuroses. Most of CCS involve extremities, especially lower extremities, but a tumor occurring in the trunk is rare. We report an extremely rare case of CCS originated in the upper thoracic back muscle. To our knowledge, this case is the second report of CCS of the back muscle.

Clear cell sarcoma of kidney is highly malignant tumor that tends to occur in young infants, and has a tendency to metastasize to the bone. Our review of the literature disclosed 8 cases as to adults with clear cell sarcoma of kidney until December 1995. There was no report about it in the Republic of Korea. We report two adult patients, a young man and a young woman, who had a clear cell sarcoma of kidney.

Clear cell sarcoma is a rare malignant tumor representing about 1% of soft tissue tumors. It usually presents in the distal extremities of young adults, frequently attached to tendons or aponeuroses. This slowly progressive tumor tends to recur and results in eventual development of metastatic growth. Early recognition of the disease and prompt wide excision of tumor are essential to get a favorable outcome. We report a rare case of clear cell sarcoma in a 57 year-old female who presented with an erythematous hard nodule on her abdomen.

Soft tissue clear cell sarcoma usually occurred in the end of the limbs, especially foot and ankle. Soft tissue clear cell sarcoma occurring in the torso and head and neck were even fewer. In this article, parapharyngeal soft tissue clear cell sarcoma was reported.

Clear cell sarcoma of the tendon and aponeurosis was first described by Enzinger in 1965, and has become a well-accepted clinicopathological entity as malignant melanoma of soft parts. Although it posesses the ability to produce melanin, it is quite different from conventional melanoma in that, it is more deeply located, usually associated with tendon and aponeurosis, displays pale-staining round to oval-shaped tumor cells and has a longer clinical course and better prognosis.Several cases have been reported in Korea, and we experiened an additional case of this rare tumor that showed ulceration.

While benign tumors of tendons and aponeuroses are observed commonly and have been defined adequately, malignant tumors originating from these tissues are rare. Among those reported most had been classified as synovial sarcoma or fibrosarcoma until Ezinger in 1965 described a new type that he called “clear cell sarcoma” of tendon and aponeurosis. Recently, Ultrastructural and histochemical analysis has revealed that the tumor cells contain melanin in the form of melanosomes in varying stages of development and currently, the neoplasm is considered a primary malignant melanoma of the soft tissue. A csse of clear cell sarcoma of flexor tendon in the wrist is reported, with an emphasis on its electron microscopic description.

Clear cell sarcoma is rare and difficult to diagnose. Herein, we present a case of clear cell sarcoma in the dorsum of the wrist with MRI findings, including diffusion-weighted imaging, and histopathologic correlation, which was initially diagnosed as giant cell tumor of tendon sheath.
