Journal of Korean Society of Medical Informatics 2006;12(2):171-178
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this research is to survey the requirements of Oriental Medical Informatics, and to suggest a direction that Oriental Medical Informatics development may take. METHODS: Consumers and medical experts were randomly selected, and 14 uestions for consumers and 17 questions for medical experts were sent to respondents by mail and e-mail. RESULTS: Both consumers and medical experts were greatly concerned with the systemized dissemination of Oriental Medical Information, but they were not satisfied with it because of the perceived low quality of the information. Medical experts responded that they need standards and statistical evidences for Oriental Medicine. Consumers demanded good-quality information about diseases and health management. CONCLUSION: To carry out Oriental Medical Informatics, it is necessary to conduct a joint research between the sectors of Oriental Medicine and Information Technology, followed by the development of a standard information infrastructure. Oriental Medicine must also have standards in terms of medical data content, data format, and data communication, to ensure the reliability of the disseminated information on Oriental Medicine.

2.Unusual Cardiac Metastasis of Nonvisceral Soft Tissue Leiomyosarcoma in the Right Ventricle:A Case Report and Literature Review
Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 2021;82(1):219-224
Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is a soft tissue sarcoma that originates from smooth muscle cells. It is commonly found in the uterus but can occur throughout the body, including the retroperitoneal space, abdominal cavity, and any vascular structure. Although there are many case reports of uterine or vascular LMS metastasizing to the heart, cardiac metastasis from nonvisceral lesions has only been reported in two cases. Herein we report a rare case of a patient presenting metastatic LMS from the left flank in the right ventricle observed with echocardiography and enhanced computed tomography.

4.Unusual Peritoneal Metastasis of Late Recurrent Uterine Cervical Cancer: A Case Report and Literature Review
Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 2022;83(4):904-909
Uterine cervical cancer is one of the most common malignancies of the female genital tract. Most recurrent cases of uterine cervical cancer are diagnosed within two years after primary treatment, and late recurrence after a disease-free interval of more than five years is rare. In addition, peritoneal metastases usually present as multifocal discrete nodules in the peritoneal cavity with nodular or diffuse peritoneal thickening. Herein, we report an extremely rare case of late recurrent cervical cancer peritoneal metastasis with an unusual manifestation of a large, solitary necrotic mass in the right subphrenic space on contrast-enhanced CT.

The Korean Journal of Sports Medicine 2020;38(3):182-189
Purpose:
This study aimed to provide the descriptive statistics regarding the injury epidemiology of Korean professional basketball players.
Methods:
In this study, athlete exposures (AEs) and time exposures (TEs) were collected from the 38 basketball players (17 women) who participated in the 2019–2020 regular season. Injury rate (IR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated.
Results:
A total of 35 injuries were reported. The overall rate of injury was 5.65 per 1,000 AEs and 0.06 per 1,000 TEs. Approximately 65.7% of all the injuries occurred during the official games, with lower limb injuries accounting for about 57.1% of all the injuries. Ankle was the most frequently injured body area (25.7%) with a IR of 1.45 per 1,000 AEs. Sprain accounted for the largest portion with 54.3% overall, followed by strain, contusion and cartilage damage. The most common cause of injuries was contact with another athletes (37.2%), and the recurrence of past injuries (20.0%) also accounted for a high proportion.
Conclusion
Korean professional basketball players experience a high rate of injuries occurring during official games.Ankle sprains were the most common ones. Contact-caused injuries accounted for the highest portion.

Journal of the Korean Balance Society 2016;15(4):132-140
OBJECTIVE: Growing hypotheses indicate the galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS) as an alternative method to manage the symptoms of parkinson's disease (PD). GVS is easy and safe for use, and non-invasive. However, it is elusive how the neural information caused by GVS is transmitted in the central nervous system and relieves PD symptoms. To answer this question, we investigated the transmission of neural information by GVS in the central vestibular system, focused on vestibular nucleus (VN). METHODS: Twenty guinea pigs were used for this study for the extracellular neuronal recordings in the VN. The neuronal responses to rotation and GVS were analyzed by curve-fitting, and the numerical responding features, amplitudes and baselines, were computed. The effects of stimuli were examined by comparing these features. RESULTS: Twenty six vestibular neurons (15 regular and 11 irregular neurons) were recorded. Comparing the difference of baselines, we found the neural information was linearly transmitted with a reduced sensitivity (0.75). The linearity in the neural transmission was stronger in the neuronal groups with regular (correlation coefficient [Cor. Coef.]=0.91) and low sensitive units (Cor. Coef.=0.93), compared with those with irregular (Cor. Coef.=0.86) and high-sensitive neurons (Cor. Coef.=0.77). CONCLUSION: The neural information by GVS was linearly transmitted no matter what the neuronal characteristics were.

Korean Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery 2016;59(2):83-87
Electrophysiological research has improved the understandings of various neural controls on motion and their functional connectivity in the central nervous system. Unlike medical imaging techniques, the electrophysiological approach can provide the neural signal processing between two or more specific regions and their temporal transmission of neural information. Using its unique advantages, the vestibular system has been also studied for more than 100 years. However, it is a recent finding that various higher functions, such as cognition, memory, learning, and even spatial navigation, are constructed partially by the vestibular neural information in the human brain. It is caused by the historical underestimation on the vestibular system and its supporting position to the main neural flow. Here, we seek for a new research theme with various approaches in the vestibular system by reviewing electrophysiological researches on the vestibular system and their experimental results.

8.The Correlation among Maternal Object Relation, Personality and Symptoms of Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
Journal of Korean Neuropsychiatric Association 2009;48(6):474-480
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to examine the relationships among maternal object relations, personality, and symptoms of children with ADHD. METHODS: The study's participants were 72 children with ADHD and their mothers. We used the Bell Object Relation Inventory (BORI), Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), and Korean Personality Inventory for Children (KPI-C) to assess each child's maternal object relations, personality, and symptoms. RESULTS: The T scores of the pathologic group (PG) were higher than those of the normal group (NG) on the MMPI's D, Pa, Sc, Ma, and Si scales. The PG also had higher T scores than did the NG in delinquency, hyperactivity, family interaction, and autism on the KPI-C. Alienation in the PG was positively associated with hyperactivity and family interaction. The PG's egocentricity was positively associated with hyperactivity, family interaction, and autism. However, the NG was not associated with KPI-C. Per a stepwise multiple regression analysis, alienation was the most potent variable for hyperactivity, and egocentricity was the most critical variable for family interaction. CONCLUSION: These results show that the PG had a greater possibility of having personality problems than did the NG. In particular, alienation and egocentricity with regard to maternal object relations were the most decisive variables in children's symptoms.

Journal of Dental Rehabilitation and Applied Science 2021;37(4):294-300
Necrotizing periodontal disease caused by plaque bacteria is showed clinical findings including pseudo-membrane, interproximal necrosis of the affected area, pain on palpation and gingiva bleeding. Microbiological examination is showed that patients have fusospirochetal bacteria. Two patients who were provisionally diagnosed as necrotizing periodontal disease received nonsurgical periodontal treatments in conjunction with dressing using 3% hydrogen peroxide and local antibiotic delivery. Before and 3 - 5 days after initial treatment, the levels of periodontal bacteria in gingival crevicular fluid obtained using quantitative PCR were compared. After treatment, patients recovered normal gingiva. The number of periodontal diseases related bacterial species decreased from seven or eight to one. As a result, periodontium of patients with necrotizing periodontal disease was recovered to normal periodontium by nonsurgical periodontal treatments.

Journal of Korean Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics 2011;19(1):40-51
BACKGROUND: This study was aimed to investigate the current two years' clinical research coordinators (CRCs) employment and estimate total number of CRCs in Korea. METHODS: The participants were administrative officers or head CRCs in institutions designated by Korea Food & Drug Administration (KFDA). Data on the current status of CRCs' employment was collected with self-administered questionnaires or telephone interview. And total number of CRCs in Korea was estimated based on ratio between the number of the KFDA approved clinical trials and current number of CRCs. RESULTS: The number of CRCs was 1381 at 36 centers in 2009 and 1444 at 37 centers in 2010. About 79 percent of CRCs were employed by investigators. The estimated number of CRCs was from 1677 to 1763 at 135 centers in 2009 and from 1802 to 1890 at 142 centers in 2010 based on number of clinical trials approved by KFDA. Two third of regional clinical trial centers (RCTCs) had written employment policy, and 25 percent of RCTCs employed CRCs in a regular position. All RCTCs had educational programs for CRCs and supported CRCs for training outside. 75 percent of RCTCs provided ID card for CRCs belonging to investigators to access to hospital document. Half of RCTCs had CRC registration system in hospital-wide. CONCLUSION: The number of CRCs in Korea can be easily estimated with the number of KFDA approved clinical trials. Majority of RCTCs still employed CRCs in an irregular position, which should be switched to regular position to reduce the CRCs' unsatisfaction. It is also needed to develop centralized CRC management system for CRCs belonging to investigators.
