Journal of the Korean Pediatric Society 2000;43(6):798-805
PURPOSE: Periventricular leukomalacia(PVL) is associated with various neurologic sequelae such as cerebral palsy and cortical blindness. The aim of this study was to analyse the correlation between the degree of PVL on MRI and clinical features or its severity. METHODS:Thirty-eight children with PVL on MRI among children brought to Pusan National University Hospital between January 1996 and August 1999 with development delay, cerebral palsy or epilepsy were included into the study group. We reviewed medical records of the patients including the gestational age, birth weight and neurologic sequelae. The grade for PVL was divided into 1 to 3, and it was based on abnormally increased signal intensity in periventricular white matter or a reduced amount of periventricular white matter or both, and compensatory focal ventricular enlargement. We analysed the relationship of the grade of PVL and various clinical findings. RESULTS: The age ranged from 11 months to 13 years old with a mean of 42 months. History of cesarean delivery and ventilator care were significantly frequent for the severe grade of PVL. Birth weight was significantly lower according to grade of PVL. Gestational age was lower according to the grade of PVL, but was not significant statistically. Incidence of cerebral palsy was significantly higher on the severe grade of PVL. Incidence of epilepsy and mental retardation were 34.2Yo and 23.9M, not associated with the grade of PVL. CONCLUSION: Incidence of cerebral palsy was associated with the severe grade of PVL, so we think MRI can be helpful in predicting neurodevelopmental outcome. (J Korean Pediatr Soc 2000;43 798-805)

Annals of Dermatology 2003;15(4):151-152
Annular atrophic lichen planus(AALP) is the most unusual variant of lichen planus that results from elastolytic activity of inflammatory cells. We report a case of AALP in 22-year-old man who had two annular pruritic plaques on the axilla. He had a two year history of skin lesions. Each lesion had elevated erythematous annular border with hyperpigmented atrophic macular center. Histopathologically, it showed typical features of lichen planus in the border of the lesion while a pattern of resolved lichen planus in its center. Elastic fibers was not found in the papillary dermis either at the border or at the center of the lesion.

6.Perception of Physicians and Nurses on Presence of Family during Invasive Procedures.
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2010;40(3):326-335
PURPOSE: The purpose of this descriptive study was to determine the perception of physicians and nurses on family presence during invasive procedures. METHODS: The study population consisted of 100 physicians and 100 nurses from five hospitals which have more than 500 beds in B city. Data collection was done from August 20 to September 19, 2007. The Family Presence During Resuscitation (FPDR) Inventory developed by Fulbrook, Albarran and Latour (2005) was used as the study instrument. The collected data was analyzed by t-test, ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test using SPSS/WIN 14.0 version. RESULTS: Nurses had more positive attitudes to allowing family members to be present during invasive procedures than physicians did. However, compared to physicians, nurses had more concern about problems of confidentiality, arguing with medical team, and increased rate of legal action if family members were present during invasive procedure. CONCLUSION: The results of this study indicate that educational programs and policy for family presence be required within the hospital to enhance the perception of physicians and nurses to the family presence.

8.Diagnosis of psychiatric disorders of the eldery.
Journal of the Korean Medical Association 2010;53(11):964-971
Korea is rapidly aging society and psychiatric disorders of the elderly increasing Korea is rapidly becoming an aging society and psychiatric disorders of the elderly are increasing significantly in importance. Interviewing the elderly requires special skills because of their physical weakness and cognitive impairments such as difficulty concentrating. There are various diagnostic tools for them, for more accurate diagnosis. Representative scales include the Mini-Mental Status Examination for dementia, the Geriatric Depression Scale for depression, and the Confusional Assessment Method for delirium. Differential diagnosis of psychiatric disorders from cerebral and physical disorders is important.

9.Clinical Observation on Injuries of Genitourinary Tract.
Korean Journal of Urology 1981;22(2):209-215
A clinical observation was made on the injuries of genitourinary tract of the in-patient in the Department of Urology, Capital Armed Forces General Hospital during the period from January, 1974. to December, 1979. The results were as follows: 1) Of 1524 cases hospitalized, 184 cases were injuries of genitourinary tract giving a rate of 12.1%. 2) The most favorable age was in from 20 to 29 years for 65.8%. The sex ratio, male to female, was 13.2:1. 3) The kidney was involved most frequently in 30.9%, and the next was external genitalia in 28.9 %, the urethra in 21.1%, the bladder in 17.6% and the ureter in 1.5%. 4) Traffic accident was the most frequently in 30.9%, and the next was external genitalia in 28.9%. All 3 ureteral injuries were caused by gunshot. The kick or blow was the most frequent cause of injuries to the bladder(41.7%) and external genitalia (45.8%). 5) For the treatment of renal injuries, expectant management was performed in 43cases and operation in 20 cases. 6) Among 36 bladder injuries, intraperitoneal rupture in 16 cases was close to extraperitoneal rupture in 15 cases. The rests were contusion in 3 cases and vesicovaginal fistula in 2 cases. 7) The bulbous portion in 24 cases was involved most frequently in urethral injury, the next was membranous portion in 18 cases and the pendulous portion in only 1 case.

Journal of the Korean Child Neurology Society 2000;8(1):87-93
PURPOSE: The periventricular leukomalacia(PVL) tends to increase the risk of developing motor neurologic sequelae, delayed cognitive development, visual impairment, and epilepsy. Although several developmental screening test methods are being used, one of the oldest and best known developmental screening test was restandardized and revised as Denver Development Screening Test II(Denver II). The objective of this study is to analyse the correlation between the degree of PVL on MRI and the results of Denver II. METHODS: Among the children brought into Pusan National University Hospital between January 1996 and August 1999 with developmental delay, all of the 36 children with PVL on MRI were selected for the study. Denver II was checked in all these patients for screening of developmental delay with the review of medical records. Depending on the grade of PVL, total sample was classified into three groups, and it was based on abnormally increased signal intensity in periventricualr white matter or a reduced amount of periventricular white matter or both, and compensatory focal ventricular enlargement. We analysed the relationship of the grade of PVL and the results of Denver II. RESULTS: The 36 total patients were composed of 22 boys and 14 girls, with the age distribution between 11 to 72 months and the mean of 34.4 months. Delayed occurrence of gross motor sector were 5 cases(44.4%) in group 1, 16 cases(80.0%) in group 2, 7 cases(100.0%) in group 3. Incidence of delay was significantly higher in the high grade PVL group. Delayed rate of other sectors(fine motor-adaptive, personal-social) were higher in the high grade PVL group. But it was not statistically significant. Delayed rate of language sector has no correlation with grade of PVL on MRI. CONCLUSION: Incidence of dealy of gross motor sector was significantly higher in the high grade PVL group. However, language sector has no correlation with grade of PVL on MRI.
