2.Web-Based Program Development for Promotion of Exercise among Chronic Patients.
Journal of Korean Society of Medical Informatics 2005;11(2):175-188
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to develop a web-based exercise program based on a preliminary survey and to evaluate its effect for promotion of exercise among chronic patients. METHODS: For the preliminary survey, an investigation of internet use among chronic patients and a review of existing 20 exercise-related web-sites were undertaken. The web-site was developed and evaluated by user satisfaction with the site and expert validity. To evaluate the effect of the site, exercise stage and commitment to a plan for exercise were compared before and after using the site. RESULTS: The content of the web-site included exercise and health, exercise prescription, chronic disease and exercise, and my page. The users rated 3.89 for system, 3.81 for content, and 3.60 for design in the satisfaction with the site. Experts rated 4.62 for feedback and privacy, 4.31 for purpose, 4.23 for authorship, 3.76 for content, 3.71 for design, 3.62 for functionality in the evaluation of the site. The commitment to a plan for exercise after using the site was significantly higher than that before using it. CONCLUSION: This site can be facilitated to enhance physical activity for chronic patients and further effort to continuously use and revise the site is recommended.

The Korean Journal of Parasitology 2005;43(3):119-122
Calcareous corpuscles are a characteristic structure found in larval and adult stage cestodes. These corpuscles are known to contain several protein components and to possess protein-binding activity. However, the proteins bound to calcareous corpuscles in situ have not been studied. The present study was undertaken to identify the proteins on calcareous corpuscles. Calcareous corpuscles were purified from the plerocercoids (= spargana) of Spirometra erinacei, and serially dissolved using 0.1 M sulfamic acid solution. Collected supernatants were examined by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and silver staining. The results showed that only the fraction remaining after the 19th dissolved fraction contained proteins. A total of 20 protein molecules were detected in gel, with major bands at 56, 53, 46, 40, 35, 29, 28, 24.5, 21, 19, 16, 13, 10 and 8 kDa. In particular, the proteins corresponding to the 21 and 16 kDa bands were most abundant. Our results demonstrated for the first time the protein contents of the calcareous corpuscles of spargana. Further studies on the functions of these proteins are required.

Clinics in Shoulder and Elbow 2015;18(1):13-20
BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study is to assess the range of shoulder motion using an indirect evaluation method without physical examinations of patients based on questionnaires regarding several specific arm postures referenced by patient's own body parts. METHODS: Nine criteria of specific shoulder motion including 4 forward flexion, 2 external rotation, and 3 internal rotation were decided as reference position which can represent a certain shoulder motion. Flexion contains postures such as lifting arm to waist-height, shoulder-height, eye-height, and raising arm above head with arm touching ears. External rotation comprises grasping ears and placing hands on back of the head. Vertebral height in internal rotation is determined by calculating the samples' motions, which are holding on to trouser belts, opposite-elbow, and scapula. These postures are included in questionnaires for patients to evaluate the validity and effectiveness of this indirect method. RESULTS: The range of flexion was 77degrees (60degrees to 100degrees), 96degrees (87degrees to 115degrees), 135degrees (115degrees to 150degrees), and 167degrees (150degrees to 175degrees) when arms go up to waist, shoulder, eye, and high vertically. Range of external rotation was 39.6degrees (30degrees to 50degrees) when grasping ears and 69.2degrees (60degrees to 80degrees) with the hands on the back of the head. Range of internal rotation was L4 when placing trouser belts, T12 for holding opposite elbow, and T9 for reaching scapula. The mismatch rates of flexion, external rotation, and internal rotation were 11.6%, 9.6%, and 7.8%. CONCLUSIONS: The range of shoulder motion using this method is expected to be applied to an established shoulder scoring system which included shoulder motion evaluation item.

Korean Journal of Epidemiology 2004;26(1):27-38
OBJECTIVES: A field investigation was done to identify the level of epidemic and to evaluate the infection route of Salmonellosis occurred in a baby's first birthday banquet in Jeju Island. METHODS: Among participants in the banquet given on a baby's first birthday, persons showing gastrointestinal symptoms were conducted by the structured questionnaire and stool culture. The symptomless persons were also surveyed by self-responded structured questionnaire. The causal relationship between food items and gastrointestinal symptoms was proved by odds ratio and Wilcoxon rank-sum test. RESULTS: Salmonella london was identified in the stools of 12 subjects among 20 participants showing gastrointestinal symptoms, as well as in the boiled pork hock. CONCLUSIONS: This outbreak event is thought to happen after participants took the boiled pork hock that contaminated with S almonella london during the storage process.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of irradiated frozen allogenic bone(IFAB) on the cell proliferation and differentiation of human fetal osteoblasts. Human fetal osteoblasts(hFOB1) were cultured to examine the cellular proliferation for 3 days and 5 days with 1mg/ml, 100microgram/ml, 10microgram/ml, 1microgram/ml, 100ng/ml, 10ng/ml, 1ng/ml of IFAB, and to compare the ALP synthesis to control groups for 3 days with DMEM/F-12 1:1 Mixture and 1mg/ml, 100microgram/ml, 10microgram/ml, 1microgram/ml, 100ng/ml, 10ng/ml, 1ng/ml of IFAB. To compare the calcium accumulation, hFOB1 cultured for 23 days were quantified and photographed. The cellular proliferation of hFOB1s treated with IFAB was increased at 5 days to control(p<0.05). The activity of ALP in hFOB1s treated with 100ng/ml IFAB was significantly increased at 5 days(p<0.05). A quantified calcium accumulation in hFOB1 was significantly increased at 100ng/ml, 10ng/ml of IFAB(p<0.05). In the present study, we found that IFAB play a important role of bone formation in the early stage. There was considered that IFAB could be used in the bone graft material.
