Traditionally the mast cell has been known to he a cell component dwells in annective tissue. But oocasional epithelial mast cells were presented both in light microscopic and electron microscapic examinations. This study was undertaken to evaluate the presence of mast ceil in epidermis of diseased skin. A total of 93 biopsy specimes obtained from the skin lesions of patients with various dermatological conditions were examined with light microacope after toluidine blue stain. The results are as follows: 1. Mast cells were shown in the epidermis of 2 patients with chronic eczema and one patient with pustular psoriasis. 2. Most of the epidermal mast cells were located in ar nearby the basal ceII layer. 3. Epidrmal mast cells have an oval or round nucleus and variable amounts of granulesin the cytoplasm. Some of the cells have a halo-like clear zone around them.

The developement of squamous cell carcinoma from the draining sinus of chronic osteomyelitis has long been recognized as a rare and late complication. The mode of developement of carcinoma at the site of chronic osteomyelitis is not well understood. This, however, is chiefly a disease of middle aged men, and tibia is the most common site. There are two types in this carcinoma; superficial and deep types. In the superficial type obvious presence of fungaiing growth makes diagnosis simple and easily confirmed by biopsy. In the deep type the diagnosis is difficult clinically, but the features most frequently described are an increase in pain and discharge with swelling and hemorrhage. Amputation at the adequate level is the treatment of choice. Three cases of the disease involving one left femur, and two left tibiae are reported with review of literature.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1990;25(4):1279-1282
Synovial sarcoma is an uncommon, highly malignant soft tissue tumor usually arising from the synovial lining of a joint, bursa and tendon sheath. Occurence in muscle fascia is extremely rare. We present a case of synovial sarcoma of the left calf muscle fascia, which was confirmed by microscopically sarcomatous growth of spindle cells and irregular small multiloculation. Above knee amputation was done.

Mirizzi syndrome is an uncommon cause of obstructive jaundice. It consists of the following elements: (1) an anatomic arrangement of the cystic duct such that it lies almost parallel to the common hepatic duct, (2) impaction of a gallstone in the cystic duct or neck of the gall bladder, (3) partial mechanical obstruction of the common hepatic duct by the stone itself or the resulting inflammatory reaction, and (4) recurrent cholangitis or ultimately cholangitic cirrhosis due to the partial obstruction. 9.Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia/Cardiomyopathy: Report of an Autopsy Case.

Korean Journal of Legal Medicine 2003;27(1):101-105
Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia/cardiomyopathy (ARVD/C) is characterized histologically by massive infilteration of right ventricular wall by fat tissue with surviving strands of cardiomyocytes bordered by or embedded in fibrosis. ARVC has been recognized as a cause of sudden death, especially in the young. We report an autopy case of ARVD/C in a 35-year-old female. She was found dead in her house under apparently natural circumstances. The autopsy revealed a dilated 340-gram heart with a fibrofatty replacement of the right ventricular myocardium. On the review of her past medical history, she had taken medical examination for prolonged general weakness about 1 year prior to death. At that time the echocardiogram revealed dilatation of right ventricular cavity size and moderately decreased left ventricular systolic function, the electrocardiogram revealed R>S at V1 lead and T-wave inversion at V1-V3 leads. To the best of our knowledge, this is the second autopsy case of ARVD/C, reported in the literature of Korea.

10.Evaluation of DNA Ploidy of Bronchogenic Carcinomas by Image Analysis.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1991;25(3):238-244
In order to extract useful tumor cell-specific information. DNA contents and other morphological parameters were measured by image analysis. Single cell preparation was made from archived paraffin blocks of 14 cases of bronchogenic squamous cell carcinoma, poorly differentiated, by protease treatment. The cells were Feulgen stained, and DNA content, area, perimeter, and major axis of the tumor cell nuclei were measured. Inflammatory lymphocytes concurrent with the tumor cells were used as an internal standard. DNA ploidies of the lymphocytes and 2C tumor cells showed simple peaks with Gaussian distribution and mean coefficients of variation of 10% and 14% respectively. By the location and proportion of the tumor cells other than 2C cells, DNA ploidies could be classified into diploidy(1 case), polyploidy(2 cases), and aneuploidy(11 cases). The mean proportion of DNA aneuploidal tumor cells relative to the total tumor cells was 82.8%. In 8 cases, nuclear areas showed more or less overlapped distribution, whereas DNA contents showed discrete peaks. THes results suggest that many bronchogenic squamous cell carcinomas, poorly differentiated, have DNA aneuploidy and high proportion of aneuploidal cells, and that nuclear size and DNA content are more or less independent parameters.
