2.The Types of Smoking Cessation Among Adult Smokers: Q Methodological Approach.
Sung Rae SHIN ; Sung Ok CHANG ; Sang Suk KIM
Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing 2004;16(1):60-71
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to analyze the subjectivity of smoking cessation methods of smokers. METHOD: The Q. methodology which provides a method of analyzing the individual's subjectivity was used. The 34 subjects classified 38 selected Q-statements into a 9 point scale to make a normal distribution. The collected data was analyzed using a QUANL PC program. RESULTS: Three types of smoking cessation among smokers were identified. Type I, Family Centered; Type II, Suppressing Temptation; Type III, Self Overcoming. CONCLUSION: This study results revealed that different approaches of support programs are needed to address the three types of smoking cessation and their characteristics

Journal of Korean Academy of Fundamental Nursing 2003;10(1):57-67
PURPOSE: This study was done to analyze subjectivity of smoking among adult smokers. METHOD: Q-methodology, which provides a scientific method on subjectivity, was used. RESULT: Five types of smoking among adult smoker were identified Type I, Concerning Significant Others; Type II, Pursuing Psychological Comfort; Type III, Habitual Craving; Type IV, Pursuing Social Relations and Type V, Maintaining Self Control. Stage of change and methods of stress relieving were revealed to be factors influencing the smoking modes among the adult smokers. CONCLUSION: The five types of smoking and factors influencing them as revealed in this study provide a better understanding of smokers. Smoking styles and subjective values about smoking provide insight for nursing interventions for smoking.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1998;33(3):914-919
TGF-p receptor mutation is now considered as one of the carcinogenic process of many tumors. To evaluate whether there is an abnormality in TGF-p type II receptor in osteosarcoma cell lines, we performed Northern analysis, cross-linking assay, luciferase activity and TGF-p growth inhibition assay in four osteosarcoma cell lines: G292, U202, HOS and SaOS. We also transfected the tumor cells with normal TGF-p type II receptor sequence to find if there is a possibility of gene therapy in osteosarcoma. In Northern analysis, Type II receptor expressions were decreased at SaOS, U202 and HOS cell lines. In cross-linking assay, all four cell lines didnt show type II receptor at their cell surface. The growth of these tumor cells were not suppressed by TGF-p. From these findings, we concluded that the normal production of TGF-p type II receptor was impaired in osteosarcoma. The transfection of these tumor cells with normal type II receptor sequence restored growth inhibition by TGF-p. This means even though TGF-p type II receptor is abnormal in osteosarcoma, we can restore its function by transfection of normal sequence. We think that the TGF-p type Il receptor gene therapy can be one of the treatment method for osteosarcoma in the future.

9.A Case of Dysgenetic Male Pseudohermaphroditism.
Korean Journal of Urology 1985;26(1):67-71
Dysgenetic male pseudohermaphroditism is a disorder of sexual differentiation in which patient with bilateral dysgenetic tests, persistent Mullerian structures, cryptorchidism and inadequate virilization. We experienced one case of dysgenetic male pseudohermaphroditism with 45,XO/46,XY mosaicism and hypothalamic dysfunction, so we reports this case with a brief review of the literatures.
