Slipped femoral capital epiphysis is the condition in which the femoral head begins to slip gradually off the femoral neck. After first discription of Ambrose Pare(1572), the world literature has presented many cases, usually more than one hundred in each clinic. Its incidence in Korea, however, is extremely rare and particularly it is difficult to find out the report of typical case. The author reports here a typical case of billateral slipped femoral capital epiphysis in a 17 year old boy with symptom duration of 2 years on right side and 6 months on left side. Physical examination showed his body stature to be normal and his genital organs to have no abnormalities. However, both hips revealed severe pain and limited range of motion, especially in internal rotation and abduction, which restricted his normal gait. Operative reduction of epiphysio-cervical distorsion was successful in the left hip. After skeletal traction of the left hip, an anatomical repositioning by intraarticular wedge rection osteotomy was maintained by 3 Knowles pins. 3 months postoperatively he resumed partial weight bearing on his left hip with little pain and improved range of motion. Further restoration of function can reasonably be expected.

Primary hepatic tuberculosis is extremely rare, but liver and spleen involvement secondary to tuberculosis isfrequentand of clinical importance, because of its demonstrability by biopsy. Non-lymphatic sporotrichosis is more difficult in diagnosis, lower in incidence and more variable in clinical picture than the classical lymphatic one. A case of non-lymphatic type affecting a female baby aged 2 months is presented, The patient has been suffering from the shallow ulcerated, crusted impetiginous lesian on the cheek area just below the right eye. The lesion has developed progreasively since about 1 month after birth. Clinically, its diagnosis was not easy, but was confirmed by culture on Sabouraud's media. It is thought that the age of initial onset in this case we experienced, is the lowest in recorded Korean literature.

We reviewed 28 patients admitted due to urologic complications after obstetric & gynecologic operation and management since May 1972. The age distribution, developed urologic complications and it`s treatment are discussed. The prevalent age groups of urologic complications were 30`s and 40`s. The most common urologic complication was urinary fistula : 8 ureterovaginal, 8 vesicovaginal and 4 other fistulas. The results after 1st operation of urinary fistula showed an over-all success rate of 72.6%.

Microsporurn canis was fjrst reportaR m Korea in 1957, but no animal contacts were reported and since then, only sporadic occurrences of M. canis have reported. However, cat and human infections from M. canis have gradually become rnore prevalent lately. Recently author reported 3 cases of T. capitis, 2 cases of Kerion Celsi, 13 cascs of T. e,orporis in human and 4 cases of infected kittens, with M. canis isolated as the causative organisrn. Clinical and mycological observations of both patients and kittens were reported as follows: The infections with M. canis were exclusively reported in kittens, not in adult cats. Two of the infected kittens showed obvious signs of undernourishment, physical retardation and prostration. Infectivity among cats or kittens was very low while cat to human infectivity was very high. The human T. capitis exhibited. round, erythematous lesions with complete 1oss of hair, very similar to lesions of alopecia areata, These lesions were uniformly smaller than a walnut in size. The T. corporis exhibited typical, moderately inflamed ringshaped, singular or multiple lesions. The incubation period was estirnated at approximately 3-7 days. In humans, ectothrix growth was reported while the opposite endothrix growth was observed in the kitten and rabbit. Experimental animal inoculations were performed: Rabbit inocuIated with M. can- is resulted in typical ringshaped Iesions appearing 10 days after inoculation. T4ese lesians were cornpletely gone in 4 weeks but infected hairs still remained. Guinea pig inoculation resultel in non-typical lesions covered with serosanguinous crusts, but rat inoculztion showed no signs of infectivity.

A mating study was performed by crossing 333 isolates of Trichophyton mentugrophytes with+and tester strains of Arthroderma vanbreuseghemii, A. benhamiae and A. simit from January 1980 to December 1983 Three hundred and thiirteen were compatible with A. vanbreuseghemri consisting of 167 of+type and 146 of type and twenty were indeterminate. The cleistothecia formed by crossing the isolates with tester strains of A. vanbreaseghemii were fewer in number and smaller in size than those of tester strains. The sexual dogeneration was observed in all of the isolates compared with tester strains. The colonial morphological features of the isolates of T. mentagrophytes were observed as 24p isolates of the granulosum-asteroides form, 66 of the powdery form and 7 of the downy form on 1/10 Sabouraud agar with salts in culture. The mat- ing type showed the higher type in the granulosumasteroides forrn and + type in the powdery and downy forms. The + type increased from 1981 to 1983, and the type showed a marked increase in 1983. The + type was predominant in tinea pedis et unguim and tinea cruris, and type in tinea faciale and tinea manuurn. The + type showed nearly equal incidence in the spring, winter and summer, and the lowest in the autumn, compared to the highest in the winter and the lowest in the summer in the type.

This is to report two unusual cases of plasma cell myeloma, in each respective case presumptive diagnosis of chronic inflammatory disease of cervical spine and tuberculosis of 11th thoracic vertebra was made.

OBJECTIVES: This study was designed to evaluate the problems of pre-hospital Emergency medical care system (EMS) in workplace. We analysed 25 fatal work-place injuries during the recent 4 years and the work-place EMS of 8 enterprises located in Masan-city, Changwon-city and Kuje-island. METHODS: The safety managers and the members of Dept. of safety in the labor unions were interviewed about the work-place EMS. And we investigated on the injury reports, the work-place medical-room records and the medical records of emergency center for fatal 25 cases. RESULTS: The enterprises had the at-risk machines and processes, volatile materials and high-altitude working processes. There were duty doctors in only 3 enterprises but a few duty nurses or health-care providers in the others. The time spent for the education to the workers on safety was 24hrs/yr in 3 enterprises in 1998 but less than Bhrs in the others. There were medical service center in all enterprises but the ambulances in three. The time for activation of the ambulance was ranging from 5 minutes to 10 minutes in 6 enterprises, and from 10 minutes to 30 minutes in two. The patient transportation to the emergency center was possible within 30 minutes in all enterprises but there were no equipments for airway maintenance and shock management in all enterprises. The 15 (60%) fatal injuries were occurred at one enterprise. The 64% of casualties had the duration of job-employment more than 10yrs and the 68% were suffered the typical type of work-place injury as descending injuries, collisions and falls. Most of all primary calls for rescue were concentrated on the fire-service agencies. But in 85% of fatal injtories, the tome for the activation of ambulance was more than 10 minutes and no emergency care was taken in the field in 48 percent of casualtles. The transportation time to the emergency center was more than 30 minutes in 50 percent. It toolk from injury to death was less than one hour in the 40 percent of all cases, and from one hour to four in the 50 percent. The causes of death in the 68 percent were the head-and-neck injuries or thoracic injuries. CONCLUSIONS: We found that there was Insufficiency of the education associated with work-place injury for workers, manpower and facilities, equipments related to the work-place EMS, the problems of the delay in transportation system.

This study was carried out to investigate for resistance of V. parahaemolyticus that isolated from patients of food poisoning and fish and shellfish, captured in east coast of Kyungpook province of Korea from 1985 to 1986. VP ATCC 17802 and NAG V. ATCC 6538 were used as control. In fish, shellfish and seaweed, the more temperature increased, the shorter survival time was. In case of sea-water, the more temperature rose up, the longer survival time was, particularly in 37 degrees C and 25 degrees C, the strains had survived after 6 months. And in tapwater, it was sterilized in 150 mins. and survived for 11.5 days on maximum in ground water. In kimchi, at room temperature, germicidal time was shorter more than 6 times compared with that which had been kept in refrigerator. It survived for 57.1 days in milk, 49.2 mins. in yougurt. Strains had been surviving in frozen condition at -70 degrees C even after 6 months, present study time. In resistance test in water bath at several degrees of temperature, all the strains were sterilized in 20 mins. with 60 degrees C. In resistance test to driness, number of surviving strains dropped rapidly in 10-11% water contents. In UV 2538A, strains were sterilized in 20 mins. In resistance test to alcohol, strains had survived for 0.1-4 mins. in fermentative wine of below than 25% and distilled wine of over than 25% in alcohol concentration. The bactericidal concentration of disinfectant was 1% in phenol and 3% in cresol. In 0.1M acetic acid and 0.1M lactic acid, number of surviving colonies decreased rapidly but not in citric acid. The more NaCl concentration rose up, the lower decreasing rate of number of surviving colonies was. The strains had showed sensitive response to vancomycin, chloramphenicol, gentamicin, and resisted to carbenicillin, ampicillin and kanamycin. When one day culture strain was cultured till 25th day, resistant strains to tetracycline and cephalothin were changed to sensitive.
