1.The Effects of Assertiveness Training and Values Clarification Training on Nurse's Role Conflict.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of assertiveness training and values clarification training on nurse's role conflict. Fifty-seven registered nurses participated to in the study : they were employed at to three general hospitals, all of which were located in the city of Daegu, Korea. The study employs two treatment groups. The assertiveness training group consisted of nursing subjects who participated in nine, 90-120 minute sessions of assertiveness training over five weeks. The other treatment group received nine, 90-120 minute group sessions of values clarification at the same time. For the control group, nursing subjects did not participated in any training. For pre-test evaluation, Role Conflict Inventory-General tests (RCI-G), were administered to al subjects in al three groups one week prior to the beginning of the treatment and for post-test evaluation, Communication Conflict Inventory-Specific tests (RCI-S), were administered two weeks after the last session. The analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) on RCI-S scores were run using the SPSS program. In order to test statistical difference among mean scores of the subscales obtained after treatment, multiple comparisons were carried out using the Turkey method. The subscale scores of nurse's role conflict of the groups who experienced the assertiveness training and the values clarification, were significantly lower than the control group in role ambiguity, environmental barriers, and competency deficit, but there was no difference in collaboration deficit. The value clarification training was more effective than was th assertiveness training in decreasing the subscale scores in role ambiguity. There were, however, no differences in environmental barriers, competency deficit or collaboration deficit between two experimental groups.

3.The effect of PUVA on muose epidermal DNA synthesis studied by 5-Bromo-2-Deoxyurdine immunohistochemistry.

BACKGROUND: The action of ultraviolet rays on DNA causes the main photobiologic response of cells to ultraviolet rays. To study this effect, tritiated thymidine autoradiography was used. Recently 5-bromo-2deoxyuridine(BrdU), an analogue of thymidine, immunohistochemistry has been developed and is used in the detection of synthetic phase cells. Compared to autoradiography, there are several advantages of BrdU immunohistochemistry; a shorter processing time, no requirement of specific facilites. PUVA, the combination method of UVA and Psoralen has lots of photobiologic effects. OBJECTIVE: Using Brdu immunohistochemistry, the effect of PUVA on the DNA synthesis of tape stripped mouse epdermis was studied. METHOD: Mice stripped by adhesive tape for enhancing DNA synthesis were injected intraperitoneally with 50mg/kg of BrdU immediately after stripping and at 6, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24 and 48 hours after tape stripping for decision of the time for PUVA. The skin diopsies were taken and the specimens were stained by BrdU immunohistochemistry. Single systemic PUVA exposure was performed on the stripped epidermis in peak synthetic time after tape stripping. The irradiation dose of UVA was 5J/cm(2). 8-MOP was administered at 90 minutes before UVA irradiation via a feeding tube with the dose of 16mg/kg. Mice were injected intraperitoneally with 50mg/kg of BrdU immediately after PUVA and at 12, 24, 48, 72 hours, and 7 days after PUVA. The skin biopsies were taken and the specimens were stained by BrdU immunohistochemistry. Positively labeled cells were counted per 5mm epidermis. RESULT: The results can be summerized as follows : 1. The mean numbers of BrdU labeled cells of each groups according to time after tape stripping were 11.0+/-4.4 at immediate, 24.0+/-9.7 at 6 hours 31.4+/-18.1 at 12 hours, 55.0+/-16.1 at 14 hors, 25.8+/-9.7 at 16 hors, 44.2+/-15.7 at 18 hors, 47.6+/-15.6 at 20 hors, 33.4+/-12.3 at 22 hors, 38.0+/-16.3 at 24 hors, and 22.0+/-8.2 at 48 hors group. The mean number of BrdU labeled cells was observed at 14 hors after tape stripping (p<0.05). So by tape stripping DNA synthesis was enhanced maximally at 14 hours after tape stripping. 2. The man numbers of BrdU labeled cells of each groups according to time after PUVA were 11.0+/-7.5 at immediate, 32.2+/-13.2 at immediate, 32.2+/-13.2 at 6hors, 26.4+/-13.4 at 24 hours, 18.0+/-3.4 at 48 hours, 40.3+/-8.3 at 72 hours, and 27.8+/-11.0 at 7 days group. The lowest number of BrdU labeled cells was observed immediately after PUVA(p<0.05). The decreasein the number of BrdU labeled cells significantly persisted 48 hours after PUVA(p<0.05). CONCLUSION: The inhibitory effect on DNA synthesis of PUVA might be sustained 48 hours after PUVA. DNA synthesis was recovered at 72 hours after PUVA and sustained for 7 days.

6.The Effect of Rauwolfia Serpentina on the Retinal Arterial Blood Pressure in Hypertensive Patients.

The diastolic retinal arterial blood pressure was measured by Ophthalmodynamometer in 15 patients of essential hypertension before and after the administration of Raudixin three times a days. The follow up period was 4 to 70 days. The average fall of the systolic brachial blood pressure was 38.1 mmHg(from 174.6 to 136.5 mmHg) 19 days after the treatment, whereas the average fall of the diastolic brachial blood pressure was 19.6 mmHg (from 166.6 to 94.7 mmHg) 24 days after treatment. A positive correlation was demonstrated between the retinal and brachial diastolic blood pressures prior to the treatment. The diastolic brachial blood pressure showed its fall only 15 days after treatment, the average fall being 17.1 mmHg. During this period of time, the average fall of the diastolic retinal arterial pressure was 10.2 mmHg. In 6 cases, the retinal arterial pressure didn't fall back to the normal valures and in 5 cases of Keith-Wagener group II, the retinal arterial pressure remained unchanged in spite of the treatment. The percentage ratio of the retinal to the brachial diastolic blood pressure remained stationary in 3 cases, rose in 4 cases. The number of cases which show fall in this ratio gradually increased and about 80% of the cases demonstrated definite fall one month after treatment. The retinal arterial pressure remained stationary during 2 weeks after treatment in 60% of the cases. The significant lowering of the retinal arterial blood pressure was observed only one month after treatment in the majority of cases. The retinal arterial pressure fell below normal range in no case.

8.Clinical Study on Pruritus During Pregnancy.

BACKGROUND: Pruritus, which is a frequent accompanying symptom of dermatological diseases, is also common during pregnancy, either localized or generalized. It may be related to specific dermatoses of pregnancy. OBJECTIVE: A clinical study was performed to know the exact nature of pruritus in pregnancy. METHODS: Subjects with systemic diseases, or laboratory abnormalities were excluded. People who have had pruritic dermatologic diseases before pregnancy were also excluded. One hundred and fifty five pregnant women were interviewed with physical examinations and followed up to the date of delivery. Pruritus was graded. RESULTS: Pruritus was present in 31.6%. Most affected subjects had mild or moderate severity. The abdomen was the most common site. There was a tendency for the duration of itching to increase with the duration of pregnancy. CONCLUSION: Conclusion: These findings may provide basic and useful data on pruritus during pregnancy.

9.3-Dimensional Gait Analysis of Korean Adults.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to present the basic reference data of age and sex specific gait parameters for Korean adults. METHOD: The basic gait parameters were extracted from 70 healthy adults, 38 men and 32women, 21 to 69 years of age using VICON 340 Motion Analyzer. RESULTS: The temporal gait parameters and kinematic parameters of Korean adults were similar to other western reference data. CONCLUSION: Significant sex differences exist in the maximal pelvic tilting, pelvic internal rotation and foot internal rotation and plantar flexion. There is a statistically significant age variability for the hip and knee flexion at stance phase.

10.The effects of cell proliferation by tape stripping upon sunburn cell formation by UVB.

The number of SBC was increased by tape stripping to 57.4+Cell proliferation, by evaluating sunburn cell (SBC) formation, was studied in mouse skin following tape stripping and ultraviolet light B (UVB) exposun.. 1-radiation was achieved using high pressure mercury are UVB. The results are summarized as follows. 1. Labeling 19.2. These results suggest that proliferating cells are more sensitive to UVB exposure.
