1.A Statistical Study of Bullous Skin Diseases During Last 20 Years ( 1966 ~ 1985 ).
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1987;25(6):745-752
This study was done to observe the statistical difference on bullous skin disease patients (pemphigus, bullous pemphigoid, dermatitis herpetiformis, epidermolysis bullosa) who visited the department of dermatology, Kyungpook National University Hospital, from January 1966 to Deceniber 1985, For those 24 cases which tested positive under direct immunofluorescent (DIF) testing, agreement percentage of histopathologic diagnosis was compared. The results were summarized as follows : 1) 51 of 45,091 new outpatients (0.113%) were bullous skin disease patients. 2) By sex, age and monthly distribution, there was no significant difference, though epidermolysis bullosa was seen for the most part in those under 10 years of age. 3) By individual disease distribution, the pemphigus cases numbered 8, of which most cases were within the 30~60 year age group. Bullous pemphigoid cases numbered 14, of which most cases were over 50 years of age. Female patients were 2.5 times more common than male patients. Dermatitis herpetiformis cases numbered 20, and were relatively diminished in recent years. The peak age group was the 3rd decade. Epidermolysis bullosa numbered 9 cases. 4) The compatibility of the histopathologic diagnosis to the DIF diagnosis in 24 DIF positive cases indicated that of DIF positive pemphigus the histopathologic diagnrsis agreed with the DIF diagnosis in 75%, of bullous pemphigoid, 58% and of dermatitis herpetiformis, 50%.

Journal of Environment and Health 1992;0(02):-
Objective To explore the effects of different levels of selenium nutrition on thyroid function, liver deiodinase type Ⅰ(DⅠ) and brain deiodinase type Ⅱ(DⅡ) activities in experimental autoimmune thyroiditis (EAT) rats. Methods A total of 32 female Lewis rats were randomly divided into four groups that included control group, model group,EAT with selenium-supplementation group and EAT with selenium-deficiency group. After two weeks of the basal diet administration, the rats were fed on forage containing different levels of selenium for nine weeks and the total intake of selenium were 4,4,40 and 0.4 ?g/d,respectively. The rats of model group,EAT with selenium-supplementation group and EAT with selenium-deficiency group were induced to establish the model of experimental autoimmune thyroiditis from the third week to eighth week. The pathological change of thyroid was examined, and the levels of selenium in the blood, serum thyroid autoantibody and thyroid hormone,DⅠ and DⅡ activities were measured simultaneously. Results Compared with control group, thyroid autoantibody and thyroid hormone levels significantly increased in model group,EAT with selenium-supplementation group and EAT with selenium-deficiency group (P

Korean Journal of Health Promotion 2014;14(4):147-154
BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between yoga and autonomic nervous system in women with metabolic syndrome. METHODS: A randomized controlled study was performed in participants recruited from a public center for managing chronic diseases located in Gyeong-gi Province. The 39 women participants diagnosed with metabolic syndrome were randomly assigned to the 12-week yoga exercise group (n=22) or the wait-listed control group (n=17). Biochemical laboratory tests and heart rate variability were measured before and after the 12-week program. RESULTS: In post-menopausal women, the low frequency power of frequency domain significantly decreased in the yoga exercise group compared to the control group (P=0.07). On the time domain of heart rate variability and metabolic syndrome components, there were no significant differences between the groups. CONCLUSIONS: Sympathetic activity was decreased in post-menopausal women with metabolic syndrome who practiced yoga. Our results suggest that yoga might be beneficial in improving the autonomic nervous system in post-menopausal women with metabolic syndrome.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1995;33(4):616-624
BACKGROUND: Chicken pox and herpes zoster are caused by the varicella-zoster virus(VZV). To investigate the epiderniologial relationship between clinical isolates of VZV, it is essential to distinguish different isolate. OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to classify the VZV strains according to R5 tandem direct reiterations(TDR) copy numbers and Pst I endonuclease cleavage site mutation, and to analyze the distribution pattern of VZV strains isolated in Korea. METHODS: Strains of VZV were isolated from 61 patients with herpes zoster who had not been immunized with a live vaccine of VZV. Copy numbers of R5 TDR which was located in variable region IV were measured by PCR. The presence of a Pst I cleavage site in a middle portion of the long unique region of VZV genome was analyzed by PCR thereafter restriction enzyme digestion(PCR-RFLP). RESULTS: VZV strains isolated in Korea contained one to three copy numbers of R5 TDR. Of 61 isolates, 43(70%) comtained 2 copies of R5 TDR, while 11(18%) isolates contained only one copy and 7(12%) isolat s contained 3 copies. About 16% of the strains examined did not have a PstI cleavage site, although the majority of strains retained this site. VZV strains could be classified into 6 strains on the basis of the copy number of R5 TDR and PstI cleavage site, in which the strain with 2 copies of R5 TDR and PstI cleavage site positive was the most frequent type (36 out of 61 isolates) in Korea. Four batches of live attenuated vaccine(Biken) that is now used in Korea showed 2 copy numbers of R5 TDR and PstI site negative. CONCLUSION: The copy number of R5 TDR and the presence of PstI cleavage site seems to be a reliable marker for dicrimination of VZV strains in Korea. This discrimination can be used to study the molecular epiclemiology of VZV and as a criterion for identification of vaccine-related isolates.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1993;27(2):169-174
Neoplasms presenting at birth or within the first month of life are defined as congenital tumors. The principal components of this congenital tumors are neuroblastoma, leukemia, brain tumors and sarcomas. The neuroblastoma is the most common accounting for 15~50% of all tumors in this group. It most often presents with an abdominal mass due to adrenal-retroperitoneal primary or hepatomegaly resulting from extensive metastasis. Most often the primary site is adrenal but other loci include the retroperitoneum, mediastinum, pelvis, etc. This 2-day-old female presented with hepatomegaly and a left adrenal mass at birth, first detected by ultrasonography. On the first day, she suffered from hematemesis and bradycardia. She died on the second day. Postmortem examination revealed massive metastatic tumor nodules in the liver and a well-demarcated round mass, 4 cm, in the left adrenal, with necrosis and hemorrhage. Microscopic findings revealed largely undifferentiated neuroblastoma with focal neuronal differentiation and areas of necrosis and calcification in the background of fine fibrovascular stroma. Other metastatic foci were detected in the right adrenal and pituitary gland.

Objective To investigate the possible correlation between chronic periodontitis(CP)and chronic renal failure(CRF)by establishing chronic periodontitis and chronic renal failure model in SD rats. Methods Forty health male SD rats were divided into four groups: control group(A), CP group(B), CRF group(C), CP accompany with CRF group(D). Ten rats were sacrificed in every group at the end of week 8. The periodontal index, levels of serum Scr and BUN, the concentration of IL-1β and TNF-α were examined. The severity CP and CRF was quantified by histopathology. The date was statistically analyzed. Results Animal models were established successfully. Scr and BUN in group D, BUN were higher than that in group C[Scr(120.54±21.29)junol/L vs(93.63±18.82)u,mol/L, BUN(34.20±14.44)mmol/L vs(17.77±4.15)mmol/L, P<0.05]. The kidney change of inflammation was observed in group B, the grade of PAS and Masson in group C and D were higher than that in group A(P<0.01), and that in group D was higher than group C(P<0.05). Obvious inflammation of periodontal tissue was observed in group B and D. Attachment loss level(AL)in group D was higher than that in group B[(173.60± 16.75)μm vs(124.00±23.87)μm, P<0.05]. The level of IL-lβ and TNF-α in group B and C and D were higher than that in group A(P<0.05), and IL-lβ in group D was higher than that in group B and C(P<0.05), TNF-a in group D was higher than that in group B(P<0.05). 2×2 factorial design revealed that there were interactions between CP and CRF on the numerus of Scr and BUN and AL P<0.05), and the influence of each factor on that was significant(P<0.05), no interactions were noted between CP and CRF on IL-1β and TNF-α(P>0.05), but the influence of each factor on that was significant(P<0.05). Conclusions The SD rat models can appear chronic periodontitis and chronic renal failure at the same time. There is correlation between chronic periodontitis and chronic renal failure. Chronic periodontitis can aggravate chronic renal failure throngh the role of inflammation.

The processing technology of traditional Mongolian medicine materials is distinctive, and it is one of the main characteristics of Mongolian pharmacy. Most of Mongolian medicines were used in the raw, but a quarter of medicinal materials need to be produced. Since ancient times, the processing of Mongolian medicine have cooperated with the Mongolian medicine clinical, which plays an important role in improving curative effect of Mongolian medicine and ensuring the safety of the drug. At present, the Mongolian medicines are processed still according to the traditional methods of the ancient literature method which has a lot of problems such as lag in technology, method of diversification, ambiguous indicators and unclear mechanism. Standardization of Mongolian medicine processing was based on traditional Mongolian medicine basic theory, which both projecting the characteristic, inheriting the traditional colleagues and reference to modern medicine, pharmacology, toxicology and other disciplines of knowledge. In this article, the processing situation, existing problem and standardization research of Mongolian medicine were described that providing a reference for the modernization and standardization of Mongolian medicine.
