This study was conducted to understand health status by general characteristic, and to find out relationship between social support and worker's health status. Health status was measured using SF-36(Medical Outcome Study Short Form 36), a 36 item self administered Instrument. The finding of this study were as follow; Mean scores of health status by sex were higher in male. The younger worker reported good health on physical functioning and role limitation-physical than did the older worker, but the older worker reported good health on social functioning and mental health. Mean scores of health status were higher in high income and white worker. When the relationship between social support and health status, social functioning, role limitation-emotion, mental health, vitality, general health were significantly related. Therefore we reviewed the evidence that socio-economic condition are associated with health status in this study, and that the strength of the social support was a important to maintain health.

Clinical and Experimental Vaccine Research 2016;5(1):12-18
Various new technologies have been applied for developing vaccines against various animal diseases. Virus-like particle (VLP) vaccine technology was used for manufacturing the porcine circovirus type 2 and RNA particle vaccines based on an alphavirus vector for porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED). Although VLP is classified as a killed-virus vaccine, because its structure is similar to the original virus, it can induce long-term and cell-mediated immunity. The RNA particle vaccine used a Venezuela equine encephalitis (VEE) virus gene as a vector. The VEE virus partial gene can be substituted with the PED virus spike gene. Recombinant vaccines can be produced by substitution of the target gene in the VEE vector. Both of these new vaccine technologies made it possible to control the infectious disease efficiently in a relatively short time.

The Journal of the Korean Society for Transplantation 1998;12(1):97-104
The organ transplantation process requires the interdisciplinary team approach, including the transplantation-surgery doctor, the nurse, the coordinator, the medical social worker, etc. Because the legislation of the organ transplantation and "brain death" remains under consideration, we have still some arguments on legal, social, and ethical issues of organ transplantation, especially in Korea. In this study, we analyse the 29 cases of validity evaluation of donation, and 28 donors who voluntarily registered for organ donation. Also we review the role of medical social worker in the organ transplantation team and the social work process in the live organ donation and cadaveric donation. To prevent anticipating problems with social, legal and ethical issue, as a member of the organ transplantation team, the medical social worker verifies the validity of unrelated donation, gets the informed consent from the family of the brain death patient and tries to exclude the commercialism of transplantation. In addition, the medical social worker can extend the mood of altruistic donation and encourage the people to do the valid donation for the helpless chronic patients.

8.An Experimental Study of Percutaneously Adjustable Pulmonary Artery Banding Device.

The Korean Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery 1997;30(6):580-584
To overcome the problems of classical pulmonary banding procedure, we developed a percutaneously adjustable pulmonary artery banding device. The banding device consists of banding portion of zig-zag shaped self-expandable stainless steel wire, shaft portion made by a polyvinyl catheter and a screw adjuster which includes a bolt and a nut. As the screw moves, the diameter of banding portion changes. Four Mongrel dogs ranging from 15 kg to 20 kg in weight underwent the banding of the mid portion of descending aorta with this devices through the left thoracotomy. One month after operation, we evaluated the pressure changes by controling the banding with the devices and then the dogs were sacrificed to study the microscopic changes in the aorta. The diameter and circumference of the band could be easily and finely adjustable by the screw control. The pressure recordings revealed a linear increase and decrease in pressure gradient according to percutaneous adjustment of the banding device. Since the banding device can be easily placed and simply adjusted percutaneously, we hope the banding device may be applicable clinically to improving the safety of pulmonary artery banding and debanding procedures in the future.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1994;31(4):743-747
PURPOSE: MR findings of the spinal metastasis and the tuberculosis are well known, but sometimes it might be difficult to differentiate these lesions. Therefore we reviewed and analyzed the MR findings which would be useful for the differentiation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: T1- and T2-weighted spin echo images and gadolinium-enhanced Tl-weighted images were obtained with 1. 5T and 1. 0T superconductive MR imager. We reviewed MR findings in 16 cases of spinal metastases and 24 cases of spinal tuberculosis in terms of signal intensity, contrast enhancement pattern, disc space involvement, spinal canal compressing feature and paraspinal soft tissue mass. RESULTS: The signal intensities of both lesions were hypointense on T1WI and hyperintense on T2WI except those of the metastatic lesions from the prostatic carcinoma. Heterogeneous enhancement was noted in 63% of metastasis, whereas peripheral rim enhancement was noted in 83% of spinal tuberculosis(p (.001). Spinal canal compression by collapsed vertebra was only noted in spinal metastasis, and that by paraspinal soft tissue was noted in both spinal metastasis and tuberculosis(p (.001). Disc space invasion was noted in 19% of spinal metastasis and 88% of spinal tuberculosis. Spinal tuberculosis was common at lower thoracic spine(T10) and typically involved two or more adjacent vertebral bodies(96%). CONCLUSION: The important differential point between spinal metastasis and tuberculosis was the enhancement pattern, involvement of two or more contiguous vertebral bodies and the feature of spinal canal compressing. The secondary importance was the disc space involvement pattern.

Journal of the Korean Surgical Society 1999;57(1):34-38
BACKGROUND: Early esophageal cancer has a good prognosis compared with advanced esophageal cancer, so early detection of the cancer is emphasized. Early esophageal cancer is considered as esophageal cancer located within the submucosal layer and without metastasis in the operative specimen. Despite this criterion, evidence has accumulated suggesting that submucosal tumors have a very different prognosis from intra-epithelial and intramucosal lesions. The purpose of this study is to define the characteristics of and the appropriate operative method for esophageal cancer. METHODS: Medical records of 19 patients who had received an esophagectomy and who had been diagnosed as having early esophageal cancer between 1981 and 1996 at this hospital were reviewed. RESULTS: There was 17 cases of submucosal lesions and 2 cases of mucosal lesions. 74% of the patients had alcohol or smoking history. When endoscopic findings were classified according to the endoscopic classification of JSED, there were 5 cases of type 0-I, 4 cases of type 0-III, 4 cases of type 1, and others. Type 0-I and 0-III were common. The accuracy of the endoscopic ultrasonographic finding was 39% compared with the postoperative pathologic finding. The mean duration of follow-up was 21 months, and there were 2 recurrences during follow-up. One recurred 13 months after the operation and the other 23 months after the operation. Both of them were submucosal lesions and received a transhiatal esophagectomy. CONCLUSIONS: Annual endoscopic examination with lugol staining may be needed for early detection of esophageal cancer. Submucosal lesions of early esophageal cancer should be managed with an esophagectomy and lymph node dissection. Also, expertness of the endoscopist is very important in deciding on an of operative method.
