Annals of Dermatology 1999;11(4):232-235
Trichorrhexis nodosa(TN) denotes small node-like swelling with a loss of cuticle of the hair shaft through which the hair readily fractures. The basic cause of TN is mechanical or chemical trauma, and a contributing factor is an inherent weakness of the hair shaft. We report a case of localized TN in a 37-year-old male. He had an ovoid hair patch with multiple small white-gray dotted and stubby hairs localized to the right occipital scalp. TN is known to be the commonest of all hair shaft anomalies (Price, 1975). However TN is rarely reported, and there have been only four reports in Korean dermatological literature, to our knowledge, which might be due to underdiagnosis of this disorder. We postulated that diagnostic difficulty lies in the discrepancy between terminology and gross morphological findings.

This study was designed to investigate the effects of 8-week resistance exercise by using dumbell on the body composition, serum hormone profiles and feeding patterns in young and healthy female students with over 30% of body fat, aged 22 years in Masan, Korea. The subjects were all six, performed successfully the entire exercise-program. Anthropometry, serum lipid and neurohormone profiles of subjects were analyzed at 0, 4 and 8 weeks after exercise. And also their food and nutrient intakes were self-reported by 3-day record and food frequency questionnaire. Triceps skinfoldthickness of the subject students significantly reduced after the exercise to 46% less than before (p < 0.002). The serum concentrations of leptin, insulin and catecholamine appeared to decrease steadily, but not significantly. Total protein in serum increased significantly (p < 0.05), and Na (p < 0.005), K (p < 0.001) and Fe (p < 0.058) concentrations increased remarkably within the normal range. The 8-week resistance exercise tended to induce fiber consumption (p < 0.089) of subject students and changed the P/M/S ratio changed into the desirable way from 0.8 : 1 : 1 to 1 : 1 : 1, and that of n- 6/n-3 PUFA from 11 : 1 to 6 : 1. After taking exercise, the intake frequency of cookies (p < 0.058) and raymeun (p < 0.085) decreased, but finally this feeding pattern returned to the way as before even though at marginal significance. Consequently the resistance exercise may induce the desirable changes of body fat and improve serum lipid profiles and feeding patterns in young obese females.

Journal of the Korean Fracture Society 2021;34(3):105-111
Purpose:
This study evaluated the clinical and radiological outcomes of TFNA (Trochanteric Fixation NailAdvanced; Depuy Synthes) for the treatment of proximal femur fractures.
Materials and Methods:
This was a retrospective study of 64 patients diagnosed with a proximal femur fracture from January 2019 to November 2019. The patient’s demographic data, preoperatively and postoperatively Koval grade, modified Harris hip score, EQ-5D (Euro-Qol-5 Dimension), sliding and advancement of the blade, radiologic outcome, and complications were investigated.
Results:
Fifty patients were available for evaluation at one year postoperatively. The patients reported the following: the Koval grade decreased after surgery; the modified Harris hip score decreased from 78.56±8.88 to 72.74±6.59 (p=0.149); the mean EQ-5D decreased from 0.75±0.09 to 0.72±0.06 (p=0.000). Satisfactory reduction was achieved on a postoperative radiographic examination in 47 patients in six months. Complications occurred in seven cases.
Conclusion
TFNA is considered an appropriate implant for treating intertrochanteric fractures of the femur with a minimum follow-up of one year.

Korean Circulation Journal 1989;19(4):756-764
Two cases of abnormalities of the left ventricular wall(left ventricular aneurysm or diverticulum) are presented. A saccular deformity of the left ventricle may be and aneurysm or a diverticulum. In one case, the defect seems to be subcalvular aneurysm(or fibrous diverticulum) or aneurysm of the membranous ventricular septum; this lesion seems to be a natural consequence of spontaneous closure of a defect of the membranous septum. The other case, it seems that the defect is ventricular aneurysm with syndrome of myocardial infarction and normal coronary arteries, or double or accessory chambered left ventricle. The thromboembolic phenomenon was noted on a left frontoparietal lobe of brain. Both cases have the diagnosis supported by cardiac catheterization and angiography. The clinical, angiographic and pathologic characteristic of diverticulum and aneurysm of the heart are reviewed, and an attempt is made to clarify the concept of aneurysm and diverticulum of the heart.

Korean Journal of Anatomy 1997;30(6):741-751
The effects of dehydration on vasopressin and oxytocin immunoreactive neurons in the hypothalamus was investigated by using a immunohistochemistry. Adult Mongolian gerbil[Meriones unguiculates] were deprived of drinking water. Dehydrated animals were sacrificed on the 7th, 14th and 21st day of water retriction. The results are as follows : 1. The body weights were decreased about 1.8% daily. On the 21st day of dehydration, they were shown up to 45% compare to the control. 2. In the hypothalamus of the control group, majority of vasopressin and oxytocin immunoreactive neurons were located in the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei. 3. Changes due to dehydrated stimulation were mainly observed in vasopressin immunoreactive neurons. And these changes in supraoptic nuclei were more severe than those in paraventricular nucleus. Size of vasopressin immunoreactived cells and of areas were increased as to proceed the dehydration. The numbers of those were increased on the 7th day of dehydration, and then they were continously decreased. 4. Although oxytocin immunoreactive neurons were slightly changed in numbers during dehydration, they were not shown conspicuous changes compare to vasopressin immunoreactive neurons. Thus it is appeared that vasopressin secretory neurons in the hypothalamus of Mongolian gerbil are affected by osmotic stress induced dehydration while oxytocin neurons may be affected by other factors.

Korean Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology 2003;46(1):180-183
The occurrence of carcinoma in a congenital uterine anomaly is uncommon. Indeed, malignancy of the uterine fundus with congenital uterine anomaly is quite rare, with fewer than 50 cases reported in the world liturature. Many patients go through life without the knowledge of their presence, and they are discovered at autopsy. Early diagnosis and proper management is necessary to decrease the high mortality. We present a case of endometrial carcinoma in a single horn of a bicornuate uterus.

The following results were obtained; 1) On age and sex distribution, the highest incidence of age group was under 10 year and old in 321 cases(26.5%). Male was affected more frequently than female, the incidence being 847 cases(70.1%) and 364 cases(29.9%). The ratio of male to female was 2.3:1. 2) No monthly and seasonal differences could be recognized. We found winter season having the highest 319 cases(26.3%), followed by autumn, spring and summer. 3) An analysis of causes in burns showed that flame burns were 527 cases(43.1%), scalding burns, 486 cases(40.2%), electrical burns, 96 cases(8.1%) and chemical burns, 48 cases(4.1%). 4) Domestic accidents accounted for 639 cases(52.7%), occupational for 286 cases(23.6%), traffic accidents for 160 cases(13.2%), suicides for 122 cases(10.1%), formentation for 4 cases(0.4%). 5) Most of patients 699 cases(57.7%) were affected with 2nd degree burn in depth, 1st degree for 413 cases(34.1%) and 3rd degree for 99 cases(8.2%). 6) The trunk was the anatomical region most commonly affected followed by upper and lower limbs. 7) 243 cases(20.5%) of all were accompanied by some complications. The main complications were would infection noted in 212 cases(17.5%), pneumonia in 179 cases(14.8%), acute renal failure in 160 cases(13.2), contracture in 155 cases(13.0), urinary tract infection in 24 cases(2.0%), Curling ulcer in 20 cases(1.6%) in order. 8) The over-all mortality rate was 73 cases(6.1%). The mortality rate of the patients with inhalation injury were 33 cases(45.3%). Causes of death were due to sepsis in 54 cases(4.5%), ARDS in 11 cases(0.9%), acute renal failure in 5 cases(0.4%), upper GI bleeding in 2 cases(0.2%), purmonary edema in 1 cases(0.1%).
