PURPOSE: We evaluated internal and marginal features of solitary pulmonary nodules on CT to differentiate between benign and malignant pulmonary nodules. Materials and Uethods:CT findings of 43 cases with solitary pulmonary nodule were reviewed, restrospectively. Independent T-test between benign and malignant nodules was used. RESULTS: Twenty-one cases were proved as benign nodules and 22 cases as malignant. CT air bronchogram was observed more frequently in the malignant lesions(36.4%) than in the benign ones (p=0.01). ,Air bubble shadow was observed in 5 cases of benign nodule, whereas none of the malignant lesions revealed it. Internal homogeneity or central low density was not different between the two groups. Cavitation was observed in 3 cases of tuberculoma and in 1 case of adenocarcinoma. Calcification was observed in 7 cases of benign and in 2 cases of malignant lesions. Differences in these two features were not statistically significant Mean size of malignant nodules was 3.23cm, and was larger than 2.16cm of benign nodules (p=0.002). Margin of benign nodules was more smooth (42.9%) than that of malignant nodules (p=0.01), and malignant nodules showed more Iobulated contour (90.9%) than benign nodules (42.9%) (p=0.00). The incidence of spiculation was not significantly different (benign 85.7% vs malignant 86.4%). Statistically, pleural tail and satellite lesions were not significantly different between two groups. CONCLUSION: Lobulated margin and CT air bronchogram are the most suggestive findings of malignant pulmonary noule on chest CT.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between yoga and autonomic nervous system in women with metabolic syndrome. METHODS: A randomized controlled study was performed in participants recruited from a public center for managing chronic diseases located in Gyeong-gi Province. The 39 women participants diagnosed with metabolic syndrome were randomly assigned to the 12-week yoga exercise group (n=22) or the wait-listed control group (n=17). Biochemical laboratory tests and heart rate variability were measured before and after the 12-week program. RESULTS: In post-menopausal women, the low frequency power of frequency domain significantly decreased in the yoga exercise group compared to the control group (P=0.07). On the time domain of heart rate variability and metabolic syndrome components, there were no significant differences between the groups. CONCLUSIONS: Sympathetic activity was decreased in post-menopausal women with metabolic syndrome who practiced yoga. Our results suggest that yoga might be beneficial in improving the autonomic nervous system in post-menopausal women with metabolic syndrome.

Tuberous sclerosis is a complex neurocutaneous disease inherited as an autosomal dominant pattern, which is characterized by facial angio-fibroma, mental retardation and seizures. Many cases have been reported in the literatures, but familial cases are relatively rare. We present 9 cases of tuberous sclerois occuring througb 3 generations, which are 3 cases of angiofibroma, mental retardation and seizures, 2 cases of facial angiofibroma and seizures, 1 case of mental retardation and seizures and 3 cases who showed facial angiofibroma only. Two brothers in this family reveald icthyosis vulgaris without tuberous sclerosis.

Terbinafine is now widely used for the treatment of dermatophytic infections of the skin and nails. Cutaneous side effects of terbinafine are rare and mild. They includes erythema, pruritus, urticaria, desqumation, and macular exanthem. In addition, fixed drug eruption, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and erythema annulare centrifugum-like psoriatic drug eruption were recently described in the literatures. Herein, we reported a case of acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis induced by terbinafine.

BACKGROUND: Recently, according to many studies, variable factors have been known to be associated with physical fitness. The factors such as obesity and inactivity are associated with poor physical fitness, but regular exercise is associated with good physical fitness. In our country, these studies are not yet reported. And so, this study was designed to investigate the factors associat,ed with physical fitness. METHODS: From May 1st, until July 30th 1996, we recruited the 411 subjects who visited the Health Promotion Center at Seoul National University Hospital. Data related to sex, age, exercise, job, cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption were obtained by self-administered Questionnaire. Obesity index was calculated by the percentage of standard body weight. And VO2max were obtained by submaximal bicycle ergometer test. High level exercise group was defined as the persons who had taken exercise more than 3 times a week and 20 minutes per session, and moderate exercise group was defined as the persons who had taken exercise one or two times a week and 20 minutes per session, and sedentary group was defined as the persons who had taken exercise more than 20 minutes less than one time per week. RESULTS: The subjects were 230 males(56%), total numbers were 411. The results were as follows. Compaired to women and nonexercise group, men and exercise group had high VO2max(p<0.005). The relationship between VO2max and age showed negative, and the VO2max of obese group(obesity index>_120) was greater than that of nonobese group. Any significant relationships between VO2max and job, disease were not found. In multiple regression analysis, significant relationships between VO2max and age, sex, exercise type, and obesity index were observed(p<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: We concluded that there were significant relationships between VO2max and obesity index, exercise group.

Mitral regurgitation (MR) is defined as the reflux of blood from the left ventricle into the left atrium during systole, resulting from the loss of adequate closure of the mitral valve. Echocardiography has become the primary noninvasive imaging method for evaluating mitral valvular regurgitation, since it provides structural and hemodynamic information. The echocardiographic assessment of mitral regurgitation should quantify the regurgitation, assess the valve anatomy and function, and evaluate the consequences of mitral regurgitation on the cardiac chambers. In clinical practice, the management of patients with mitral regurgitation is based largely on the echocardiography results. This article describes the echocardiographic assessment of mitral regurgitation, emphasizing the usefulness of echocardiography in primary care.

The Naka-Rushton equation of the form, R = R(max) I(n)/(I(n)+K(n)), has been used to describe the b-wave luminance-response function of the scotopic electroretinogram. Rmax is the asymptotic value of the b-wave amplitude as a function of stimulus luminance I, K is the luminance that produces a b-wave amplitude that is one-half R(max), and n is a dimensionless constant that controls the slope of the function. These three parameters are often used in research laboratories, since it can show selective changes in each parameter. The present study describes these parameters (R(max) = 354 +/- 28 uV, n = 0.80 +/- 0.06, log K = -2.26 +/- 0.15 log cd. sec/m2) and the values obtained from the derivative analysis of Naka-Rushton equation (Anastasi et al) in 20 normal pigmented rabbit eyes. However, Naka-Rushton equation accurately describes the function only at low to moderate flash luminances. At high flash luminances, a second amplitude increase appears in the function.

Apocrine poroma is a benign cutaneous adnexal neoplasm differentiating in the direction of sebaceous and apocrine glands, and follicular germs. The clinical appearance of apocrine poroma is not distinctive, and the histologic finding is similar to that of eccrine poroma, which is typified by proliferation of poroid and luminal cells in continuity with the epidermis. But sebaceous, apocrine or follicular differentiation may also be found in the case of apocrine poroma. We herein report a case of apocrine poroma on the scalp. This case exhibited apocrine and sebaceous differentiation, and connection to an adjacent follicular epithelium.
