Korean Journal of Pathology 1992;26(5):496-499
Primary hemangioma of the lymph node is an extremely rare vascular neoplasm, and only four cases on the subject have been reported in the literature. We describe a case of cavernous hemangioma in an axillary lymph node that was incidentally found in 70-year-old woman who underwent a modified radical mastectomy for infiltrating duct carcinoma of the left breast. Brief review of the literature regarding vasoformative lesions occupying lymph node is made with special regard to differential diagnosis from reactive-proliferative processes and other true neoplasms.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1976;11(3):563-570
The ischial weight-bearing functional long leg brace is one of the new immobilization devices, which allows patients to walk using less energy than was required by other devices-e.g. cast, cast-brace, conventional long leg brace. It has advantages as minimal pain and irritation, more natural gait, convenience of free joint motion, and good skin hygiene. The brace consists of quadrilateral total contact thigh shell, bilateral up-rights, knee joint, tibial cuff band and ankle-foot section. The brace was applied to 10 patients with variable diseases treated at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Seoul National University Hospital, from Mar-74 to May-76. It was applied postoperatively to 4 cases of femoral shaft fractures and 1 case of fibrous dysplasia of the tibia and applied to 4 cases of Legg-Perthes' disease as one of conservative managements. The brace was modified into “abduction-internal rotation functional long leg brace” in cases of Legg-Perthes disease. In 1 cases of post-infectious subluxation of the hip, the stability was maintained by use of the brace. With this experience, it is expected that the ischial weight-bearing functional long leg brace may be applied to other pathologic conditions of the lower extremity in which weight-bearing is to be avoided or guarded.

3.Osteochondritis dissecans in Children: A case report

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1976;11(3):447-450
Osteochondritis dissecans is a joint affection characterized by partial or complete detachment and necrosis of cartilage fragment and underlying bone from the articular surface. It is seen frequently in knee, elbow and ankle joints. Young males are most commonly affected. Also it develops not infrequently in children, but never in a child under 4 years of age. A case of osteochondritis dissecans which occurred in a 6-year-old boy is reported here. The patient had been sufferred from pain, swelling and progressive limitation of motion of the left knee. X-ray showed shadows like loose bodies on posteromedial aspect of the left knee. Clinically, possibility of tuberculous arthritis could not be rulled out. Loose bodies were removed, and almost detached ostechondral fragment was excised. At post-operative second week, crutch walking and physiotherapy were recommended.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1977;12(2):201-205
Cubitus varus and cubitus valgus is one of late complications of elbow fracture. Tardy ulnar nerve palsy often accompanies with cubitus valgus. The authors reviewed 40 supracondylar osteotomies (on cubitus varus 31, cubitus valgus 9) performed at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Seoul National University Hospital, during the period of 15 years, from 1962 till 1976. During long term follow up, correction of elbow deformity and its maintenance is possible even in growing child. So early operation is recommended for the prevention of neurologic compIication and elbow stiffness.

The carpal injury is difficult to diagnose due to anatomical complexity and the like. So, in order to get radiological knowledge of normal wrist, the authors measured the values which will be described on the wrist PA and lateral roengenogram obtained from 440 normal wrists(male : 188 cases, female : 252 cases) in randomly selected patients. The following results were obtained. l. Ulnar variance(mm±standard deviation): Total 1.1±1.2 : negative variance : 9.3%, positive variance : 56.1%, 2. Scapholunate Gap(mm±standard deviation): Total 0.4±0.7, 3. Ulnar Tilt(degrees±standard deviation): Total 23.6±5.3, 4. Volar Tilt, 5. The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1988;23(1):1-7
In vivo and in vitro culture of rat tumor chondrocytes is a good culture model for physiologic, pathologic and biochemical studies of tumor chondrocytes. Human tumor chondrocyte culture is another method, but it is difficult to maintain a cell line and in vivo culture. So called, Swarm Rat Chondrosarcoma, which wss developed spontaneously in a Spra-gue-Dawley rat and maintained by Dr. R. Swarm, can be cultured in vivo and in vitro at the same time. It is easy to maintain Swarm Rat Chondrosarcoma and is said that there are nearly no notable changes in cellular characteristics during consecutive cultures. In this study, in order to establish the basic culture method of rat tumor chondrocytes, the inoculated tumor mass were studied with swarm rat chondrosarcoma cell line which had been preserved at Orthopedic Research Laboratory of the Msssachusetts General Hospital. In vivo culture, injection of digested 1×10(6) cells, 1×10(7) cells and direct inoculation of tumor of mass were done at each 10 Sprague-Dawley rats group and examination was done at postinoculation 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 weeks. In vitro culture, 1×10(6)/ml, 2×10(6)/ml and 4×10(6)/ml concentration cell suspensions were plated at 96-well-plate and observed at 2, 3, 4 and S days with inverted microscope. The results of this study are as follows. 1. In vivo culture, the best result was observed at direct inoculation of tumor fragments among 1×10(6) cells, 1×10(7) cells and direct tumor fragments inoculation. 2. The ideal time of obtaining tumor mass growing in rsts is between 4 to 6 weeks after inoculation. 3. In vitro culture, the proper cell density in 96-well-plate was 1 x 10(6)/ml among 1×10(6)/ml, 2×10(6)/ml snd 4 × 10(6)/ml.
