We have experienced a case of plexiform neurofibrorna of the right upper eyelid and orbit in a 12-year-old girl who had typical skin features of neurofibromatosis and no family history. The non-pulsating proptosis of the right eye and diffuse thickening with hypertrophy of the upper lid, had increased insiduciusly since the birth on. Biopsy taken from eyelirl lesion showed the features of plexiform neurofibroma. Skull X-ray and brain computerized tomogram showed that the right orbit was wider, with the enlarged mass and defects in orbital roof and lesser and greater wings of the sphenoid bone. The surgical excision of the right eyelid lesion was performed.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1996;30(2):166-168
Pulmonary agenesis is a very rare anomaly. It is defined as total absence of the pulmonary parenchyma, vascular structures, and bronchi beyond the carina. We experienced a case of right pulmonary agenesis in association with other congenital defects who died at 1 day of age. The other defects included: esophageal atresia, tracheoesophageal fistula, cardiac malformation, anal atresia and a malformed left thumb. The cardiac malformations were a type of Pentalogy of Fallot, composed of right ventricular hypertrophy, ventricular septal defect, an overiding of aorta, pulmonary atresia, and an atrial septal defect. Hand roentgenograms of the malformed left thumb showed an unarticulated metacarpopharyngeal joint. This unique combination of anomalies is extremely rare.

7." TOTI " Method for Difficult Orotracheal Intubation in Adult Patients.
Korean Journal of Anesthesiology 1991;24(2):379-383
This report is a prospective study comparing conventional direct laryngoseopy with tube-over-tube intubation ("TOTI") method in 42 male patients, whose tracheas were difficult to intubate. ("TOTI") method using two different-sized endotracheal tubes, the newly devised technique has not been mentioned yet. And the comparative studies have not been performed to evaluate relative efficacy, speed, or incidence of complications for the conventional versus "TOTI" method in endotracheal intubation. Overall number of attempts (mean+/-SE) in conventional group was 3.62+/-0.37(range; 1-8), while "TOTI" one was 1.1+/-0.07 (range; 1-2). The time required for intubation ranged from 25 to 64 seconds in TOTI group and 37 to 2015 sec in conventional one, average (mean+/-SE) 37.19+/-1.87 and 542.71+/-111.54sec, respectively. No complications of endotracheal intubation occured in "TOTI" group, whereas in coventional one there occurred fourteen patients with sore throat, seven with hoarseness and five with temporary short-lived dysrhythmia.

Journal of the Korean Society for Microbiology 1998;33(6):619-624
Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrom is an acute febrile disease which is caused by Hantanvirus and several other viruses that belong to the genus Hantavirus. Gl and G2 glycoproteins of Hantanvirus have been thought to be involved in protective immunity against Hantanvirus infection. In this study, the antigenicity of G1 and G2 glycoproteins in cell mediated immune response was investigated. When peripheral blood mononuclear cell fraction from recovered hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome patient was cultivated with a recombinant protein containing amino-terminal 78 amino acids of G2 glycoprotein, these cells were activated to proliferate and secreted significant amount of interleukin-2 and interferon-r. These results suggest that T cell epitope exists in the amino-terminal region of G2 glycoprotein.

9.Morphological Changes of Hepatic Microcirculation in N-diethylnitrosamine Induced Cirrhotic Rat Liver.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1995;29(2):197-204
Morphological changes of hepatic microcirculation, especially in the peribiliary plexus, in cirrhotic livers of rats induced by repeated intraperitoneal injections of N-diethyinitrosamine (DEN) (100mg/kg/week) were studied by scanning electron microscopy. Control rats were treated with saline. The livers were perfused with saline and injected with methyl-methacrylated resin (Mercox CL-2B) through the thoracic aorta. Diffuse nodular changes mimicking human cirrhosis were seen in the livers six weeks after injections of DEN. The cirrhotic livers showed an increase of vascular channels composed mainly of venous branches around the regenerating nodules and increased arterioloportal anastonloses. Peribiliary plexi of the cirrhotic livers had more vessels than those of the controls. Many dilated veins and ramificating portal vein branches were also Present. Direct connections between peribiliary plexi and sinusoids or between peribiliary plexi and portal veins were increased in the cirrhotic liver. These results suggest that the peribiliary plexi in experimentally induced cirrhotic liver might play a role in a collateral circulation under a state of portal hypertension.
