Korean Journal of Dermatology 1998;36(5):946-949
Acrokeratoelastoidosis of Costa is a rare palmoplantar keratoderma with autosomal dominant inheritance. It is clinically charaeterized by small, firm, yellowish, shiny, translucent papules occumng over the dorsal hands, the knuckles, and the lateral margine of the palms and soles. Histologically, the characteristic features are hyperkeratosis, aeanthosis, and most strikingly, fragmentation of coarse elastic fibers within the dermis. The lesions usually begin in early childhood and progress slowly. We herein report two familial cases of acrokeratoelastoidosis of Costa showing typical clinic1 and histopathological features.

Journal of Asthma, Allergy and Clinical Immunology 1998;18(2):330-334
Terbinafine is now widely used for the treatment of dermatophytic infections of the skin and nails. Cutaneous side effects of terbinafine are rare and mild. They includes erythema, pruritus, urticaria, desqumation, and macular exanthem. In addition, fixed drug eruption, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and erythema annulare centrifugum-like psoriatic drug eruption were recently described in the literatures. Herein, we reported a case of acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis induced by terbinafine.

6.Electroretinographic Findings in Diabetics with No Observable Retinopathy.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1997;38(6):985-991
Five common electroretinograms and Fourier transform of the oscillatory potentials were recorded in adult diabetic patients with no observable retinopathy. To describe the limits of normal, we listed the median value, and actual values on either side of median that bracket 95% of the normal responses. In 68 of the 80 normal control eyes(85%), all ERG components were within normal limits. Only 52 of the 146 eyes in no diabetic retinopathy(35%) showed perfectly normal ERGs to our standard. The difference between the normal control eyes and diabetic eyes was statistically significant(p< 0.05 by Chi-square test). This fact may give proof that functional disturbance precedes the visible abnormalities of retina. A amplitude reduction of the second oscillatory potential and a timing delay of the maximal response a-wave were of frequent occurrences in diabetic patients with no retinopathy. The amplitude of the second oscillatory potential may be the best indicator reflecting erly retinal ischemic state, because a amplitude reduction attracts the examiners` eyes better than a timing delay.

7.Acral Erythema and Hyperpigmentation Induced by Tegafur.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1998;36(2):363-366
Tegafur is a fluoropyrimidine structurally similar to 5-fluorouracil, used in the treatment of advanced gastrointestinal neoplasms. Mucocutaneous side reactions induced by this agent are rare and include photosensitivity of lichenoid and eczematous types, acral erythema, hyperpigmentation and palmoplantar keratoderma. However, to our knowledge, there has been no report of concurrent development of eruptions of two types in a patient. We describe a female patient with breast cancer, presented with combined features of acral erythema and hyperpigmentation due to oral tegafur.

8.Immunohistochemical profile of basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF) in Growing Rat T-M joint.
Journal of the Korean Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons 2001;27(1):1-8
This sutdy was designed to localize the distribution of basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF) in the developing rat condylar region and to elucidate the associated function of bFGF in the condyle development. The condyles of temporomandibular joint of Sprague-Dawley rats (27g of weight) were used. The tissues were examined with electron microscope and immunohistochemical method. The results were as follows: 1. The developing condylar region are divided in to 5 zones apparently: proliferative, maturation, hypertrophic, calcifying, and ossification zones. 2. The cells in the proliferative zone are condensed and have under-developed cell organells in the cytoplasm. This zone shows a strong immunoreactivity of bFGF. 3. The cells in the maturation zone are typical chondroblasts showing well-developed cell organells and round nucleus. The cartilaginous matrix does not show the immunoreactivity of bFGF, while the chondroblasts show the immunoreactivity. 4. The cells in the hypertrophic zone show hypertrophic change having the degenerated cell organelles and small nucleus. There are no immunoreactivity of bFGF in this zone except the nucleus and endoplasmic region showing mild immunoreactivity. 5, The cells in the calcifying zone show hypertrophic change and cell organelles are disappeared. The cells are surrounded by the calcified cartilaginous matrix. There are no immunoreactivity of bFGF in this zone except the endoplasmic region showing mild immunoreactivity. 6. In the zone of bone formation, chondroblasts are disappeared. Newly differentiated osteoblasts secreting osteoid around the calcified cartilaginous matrix. The bone marrow shows the immunoreactivity of bFGF, while the bone matrix does not show the immunoreactivity of bFGF.

Journal of the Korean Society for Microbiology 1998;33(6):567-574
This study was conducted to investigate the vibrio flora in edible shellfish (Ruditapes philippinarum, Scapharca broughtonii, Batillus cornutus and Mytilus coruscus) which were purchased from seafood-market or collected from shellfish culture bed in Pusan and Masan Bay from May to October 1997. Sixty-three vibrio strains were identified among 438 collected strains. Five species of vibrios [V. alginolyticus (22 strains), V. parahaemolyticus (35 strains), V. costicola (2 strains), L. damsela (V. damsela 2 strains), and V. cholerae non-Ol (2 strains)] were identified by their phenotyfic and biochemical characteristics. Four groups (142 strains) were identified as genus Vibrio by their biological characteristics, but they could not be identified to the species level.

10.Rabltit Model of Acenitine Myelo-optic Neuropathy.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1991;32(4):289-293
A single sublethal dose of aconitine, a principal constituent of aconite, was administered intraperitoneally to evaluate its toxic effects on the visual pathway, spinal cord and peripheral nerve of the rabbit. Histopathological findings indicate that moderate aconitine poisoning in the rabbit consists primarily of myelopathy. Aconitine is chemically acetyl-benzoyl-ester of aconin, a base derived from quinonline. This fact may explain the similarity of pathologic pictures between subacute myelo-optic neuropathy(SMON) caused by halogenated hydroxyquinoline and acomtine poisoning.
