This is a case report of salivary gland tumors developed at buccal fat pad and masseteric area which are considered rare and characterized by asymptomatic mid-cheek mass. Three cases were diagnosed as accessory parotid gland tumor and the other 3 cases as minor salivary gland tumor with tissue pathology. Accessory parotid gland lies 6 mm anterior to the main parotid gland and accessory parotid gland tumors represent 1% of all parotid tumor. It can be managed solely by resection of the accessory parotid gland without superficial or total parotidectomy. Minor salivary gland tumors represent 10-20% of all salivary gland tumor and are usually found on the palate, paranasal sinuses and cheek. Buccal minor salivary gland tumors are usually found incidentally as submucosal mass at buccal mucosa and managed by wide excision including 1-2 cm free margin through intra-oral approach. This paper reviews our experience with these unusual tumors in terms of clinical manifestation, radiologic findings and the acceptable surgical management.

Sialolithiasis, the most common salivary gland pathology, is caused by calculi in the gland itself and its duct. While patients with small sialoliths can undergo conservative treatment, those with standard-size or larger sialoliths require sialolithotomy. In the present case study, we removed two sialoliths located beneath the mucosa in the posterior and anterior regions of Wharton's duct, respectively. For the posterior calculus, we performed sialolithotomy via an intra-oral approach; thereafter, the small anterior calculus near the duct orifice was removed by hydraulic power. This method has not previously been reported. There were no complications either during the operation or postoperatively, and the salivary function of the gland remained normal.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2012;26(21):1005-1006
A case of lymphoepithelial was reported and the literature were reviewed. Early surgical treatment can help to get the better prognosis. There is currently no effective treatment methods and the disease have no lethal tendency. The early surgical treatment is recommended for its possibility of canceration.

Objective: To establish an in vitro organoid model of human salivary gland basal cell adenoma (BCA). Methods: Fresh tumor sample from a 66-year-old female patient diagnosed with salivary gland BCA was collected from the Dpartment of Oral pathology, Ninth People's Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine in October 2021. And the organoid culture was performed in vitro in a culture medium based on solid droplets of matrix gel, and the growth of the organoid was observed by inverted microscopy. After 14 days, the organoid was fixed in 10% neutral formalin and made into paraffin blocks by agar pre-embedding paraffin embedding method, sectioned. HE staining, morphological observation and immunohistochemical staining of p63, Ki-67, cytokeratin14 (CK14), β-catenin, S-100 and calponin were used for organoids identification. Results: The established BCA organoids were lobulated nodular locally under light microscopy, with deposition of eosinophilic glass-like material around the nests of organoid cells, similar to the morphological architectures of the parental BCA. Immunohistochemistry showed that organoids expressed CK14, p63, and β-catenin in various degree, which was consistent with the immunophenotypic characteristics of the parental BCA tumor cells. Conclusions: An in vitro culture system of BCA organoids was preliminarily established which provides a new model for the study of the pathogenesis of salivary gland tumors.

Pathological diagnosis of salivary gland tumors is one of the most challenging areas in all head and neck surgical pathology. The classification of salivary gland tumors was updated in the 5th edition of the World Health Organization Classification of Head and Neck Tumours, most of which were based on their molecular pathological characteristerics. This new classification features a description of several new entitiesamong benign and malignant neoplasms, salivary gland tumors with updated naming or diagnostic criteria, and lesions deleted from this section, etc. This present review focuses on the updates and changes in the new classification of salivary gland tumors, and provides some reference for head and neck surgeons and pathologists.

Singapore medical journal 2013;54(9):e183-4
Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common tumour of the salivary gland. While the majority arises from the parotid gland, only a small percentage arises from the minor salivary glands. The cheek, however, is a rarely affected site with respect to pleomorphic adenomas of the minor salivary glands. Herein, we report a case of pleomorphic adenoma of the cheek, which presented with intraoral swelling, and conclude that complete surgical excision can be a curative treatment for this benign tumour.

10.Heterotopic Salivary Gland Located in the Middle Neck.

Yonsei Medical Journal 1988;29(3):295-299
A rare case of a heterotopic salivary gland located m and draining to the middle neck is presented and the literature is reviewed. Youngs and Scofield (1967) suggested that such glands are located mainly in the lower neck and developed by heteroplasia within a remnant of the precervical sinus of His. Clinically doctors should be attentive of the differential diagnosis of draining sinuses such as a second branchial cleft sinus in the neck. The present case is of interest because: 1) such a lesion m the middle neck is extremely rare (this to our knowledge, the third case reported in the literature), and 2) a sinugram through the opening showed an arborizing pattern suggesting the possibility of a heterotopic salivary gland rather than of a second branchial cleft sinus before surgery. This lesion can be easily cured if diagnosed correctly and especially when a sinugram made before surgery.
