Objective To evaluate the role of autophagy in inflammatory response in the lungs of silicosis rats. Methods The specific pathogen-free healthy male Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups with 10 rats in each group. The rats in the control group were given an equal volume of 0.9% sodium chloride solution; all rats in the silicon dioxide (SiO2 ) group, the SiO2 + 3-methyladenine (3-MA) group, and the SiO2 +rapamycin (RAPA) group were given a mass concentration of 0.05 mg/L of SiO2 suspension (1.0 mL/rat) to establish a rat model of silicosis using non-exposed tracheal instillation method. Two days before SiO2 exposure, the rats in SiO2 +3-MA group were intraperitoneally injected with 3-MA at a dose of 2.5 mg/kg body weight. The rats in the SiO2 +RAPA group were intraperitoneally injected with a dose of RAPA 1.0 mg/kg body weight, once a day, and once every other day after modeling, for a total of 10 injections. The pathological changes in the lung tissue of the rats in each group were evaluated using hematoxylin-eosin and Masson staining. The relative expression levels of transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) , interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in the lung tissue of the rats in each group were detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The relative expression levels of microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3) and yeast autophagy-related gene 6 (Beclin1) in lung tissue of rats in each group were detected by Western blotting. Results The pathological observation of rat lung tissue showed that scattered inflammatory nodules and interstitial inflammatory cells were found in the lung tissue of the rats in the SiO2 group. In the SiO2 +3-MA group, the inflammation in the lung tissue was more severe and the alveolar cavity had viscous secretions. The rats in the SiO2 +RAPA group had less inflammation and smaller inflammatory nodules than the SiO2 group. Compared with the control group, the TNF-α, IL-1β, TGF-β, Beclin1 protein relative expression levels and LC3 Ⅱ/Ⅰ ratio in the lung tissue were increased in the SiO2 group (all P<0.05). Compared with the SiO2 group, the relative expression levels of TGF-β and TNF-α in the lung tissue of the rats increased (all P<0.05), and the ratio of LC3 Ⅱ/Ⅰ and Beclin1 protein relative expression decreased in the SiO2+3-MA group (all P<0.05). Compared with the SiO2+ 3-MA group, the relative expression levels of TNF- α, IL-1β and TGF- β in the lung tissue of the SiO2 +RAPA group were decreased (all P<0.05), and the LC3Ⅱ/Ⅰ ratio and the relative expression level of Beclin1 protein were increased (all P<0.05). Conclusion Autophagy occurs when inflammatory reaction occurs in the lungs of silicosis model rats; autophagy has inhibitory effect on pulmonary inflammation.

ObjectiveTo explore the action of the psychointervension for older hypertensives in community.Methods50 older hypertensives were divided into the experimental group and the control group (with 25 cases in each group),the former received psychointervension combined body therapy and the later only received body therapy. A half of a year experiment period was made. Differences between two groups in blood pressure and SCL-90 before and after the experiment were compared and evaluated.ResultsThe mentation of older hypertensives is worse than the normal. There are distinct differences between two groups in the improvement of mentation and the stability of blood pressure (P<0.01). Conclusions It is an active effect to strengthen psychointervension for therapy of older hypertensives in community.

Objective To study the influence of crosstalk phenomenon on the measurement of gross radioactivity in drinking water.Methods The gross activity in different standard materials with different thickness and area was measured using national standard method.Results There was no obvious change in crosstalk factor with the increase of 241Am powder amount in the measurement,whereas the larger amount of uranium used might lead to larger crosstalk factor.The different measurement channels resulted in different crosstalk factors.The influence of beta radioactivity on alpha radioactivity measurement was significant.On the contrary,the alpha-to-beta crosstalk factor was negligible.The area of sample plate imposed no significant influence on crosstalk factor.Conclusions The gross beta activity can be corrected to decrease the influence of alpha radioactivity using powder standard samples,when simultaneous alpha and beta counting mode is applied in measurement grass radioactivity in drinking water.

Objective To examine the relationship between smoking and tobacco-related mortality in a cohort of the aged Chinese armymen.Methods A cohort study was carried out in Xi'an,China from 1987 to 2005.A total of 1 268 retired male military cadres aged 55 or older were examined in 1987 and followed up in the next 18 years.At baseline,388 men were non-smokers,461 were former smokers,and 419 were current smokers.The current smoking rate was 33.04%,Quitted rate was 52.39%.The terminal main observation items included all-cause and tobacco-associated mortality.Results Up to Jun 30,2005,a total of 491 subjects died.Compared with non-smokers,the relative risks(95% confidence intervals(CI)) of ever-smokers for all-cause deaths,chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD),lung cancer,and coronary heart disease(CHD) were 1.24(1.01-1.53),1.91(1.06-3.46),2.91(1.36-6.23),and 1.15(0.68-1.93),respectively.Compared with current smokers,the risks of total mortality and death from lung cancer for former smokers were decreased by 66.7% and 14.98%,respectively.Conclusions Cigarette smoking was a major death risk factor in the cohort and quitting smoking could save lives.

AIM To study the dynamic changes of color and five constituents during processing of Gardeniae Fructus.METHODS Camera and Adobe Photoshop software were applied to collecting images and obtaining chromatic values (L,a,b) of processed products,respectively.HPLC was adopted in the content determination of genipin-1-β-D-gentiobioside,geniposide,crocin-Ⅰ,crocin-Ⅱ,crocin-Ⅲ.Then the correlation between color and constituent contents was investigated by linear regression and partial least squares method.RESULTS With the process of processing,the chromatic values of epicarp and seed pellets expelled showed decreasing trends,especially for that of the former.On the whole,the contents of geniposide,crocin-Ⅰ and crocin-Ⅱ were decreased,while those of genipin-1-β-D-gentiobioside and crocin-Ⅲ were first increased and then decreased.The chromatic values of epicarp and seed pellets expelled showed significant correlations with crocin-Ⅰ content.CONCLUSION Color and crocin-Ⅰ can be considered as control index and monitoring index during processing of Gardeniae Fructus,respectively.

Objective To explore the prevalence of intolerance to eggs and its relationship with body mass index in Beijing,China.Methods A cross sectional survey which included 12 766 adults from health sciences center of general hospital of the Chinese People's Liberation Army from August,2008 to July,2009 was carried out.Data was entered computer and organized by EpiData 3.0 software for epidemiological analysis.Nonconditional logistic regression model was used for odd ratio (OR) and 95％CIcalculation,and statistics analysis was carried out by SPSS 13.0 software.Results Positive rate of intolerance to eggs in the cohort was 28.5％.Grades of intolerance to eggs were associated with sex(P＜0.05 ).Positive rate of intolerance to eggs in females(36.5％ ) was higher than those in males (24.9％).Data from multiple regression analysis showed that intolerance to eggs was associated with sex and body mass index.Compared with males,the OR(95％CI) of female was 1.732 (1.590-1.887).Compared with normal weights,the OR (95％ CI) of low weights was 1.443 ( 1.018-2.045 ).Conclusion Sex and body mass index might be associated with intolerance to eggs.

OBJECTIVETo explore the significance of pelvic hemodynamics as an index in evaluating efficacy of TCM treatment for chronic pelvic inflammation (CPI).

METHODSSixty patients with CPI received treatment with Penyanping, a self-formulated TCM recipe, for 30 days, and the changes of pelvic hemodynamic indexes in them were measured before and after treatment within the 3 - 7 days after menstruation using color Doppler.

RESULTSImprovement of pelvic hemodynamics indexes were shown after treatment in ovarian left arteriopalmus index, bilateral resistance index, maximal speed of left arterial blood flow and score of time-velocity, as compared with those before treatment, the difference was significant respectively (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONPelvic hemodynamic indexes could be taken as one of the objective parameters for evaluating efficacy of TCM treatment of CPI according to principle of activating blood circulation to remove stasis, clearing heat and detoxifying.
