2.Analysis of projects funded by NSFC in field of processing Chinese materia medica in recent five years.

The general situation of the approved and concluded projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China in the field of processing Chinese Materia Medica in recent five years has been reviewed. The progresses and achievements of some projects have been summarized in accordance with research area such as the processing principle, the processing technology, quality evaluation, toxicity and safety evaluation, etc. The researchers and project support units of the funded projects have been analyzed, and the problems of the applications have been also summarized.

3.Urinary screening and follow-up analysis of 10 795 school children in Lanzhou city

Objective To investigate the prevalence of urine abnormalities for school children in Lanzhou and evaluate the signiifcance of urine screening. Methods During 2012-2013, urine from 10795 students were collected, and screened by urine reagent paper. Two weeks later, repeated screening was conducted in those who had abnormal result in the ifrst screening. Children with both results being abnormal were submitted to urine routine tests in local hospitals. Results In the ifrst screening of school children, 1653 (15.31%) children were urinary occult blood positive, 516 (4.78%) had urinary protein, 112 (1.04%) had occult blood with proteinuri and 743 (6.88%) had white cells in urine. In the second urine screening, the positive rate of occult blood was 7.55%(815 ), urinary protein was 2.13%(230), occult blood with proteinuria was 0.69%(74) and white cells in urine was 2.51%(271). Four hundred and iffty-ifve students in 1359 were submitted to urine routine tests. Thirty-two children had pyuria, 147 had hematuria, 23 had proteinuria and 13 had occult blood with proteinuria. Thirteen cases of chronic kidney disease were found in the follow-up. The incidence of urine abnormalities was signiifcantly higher in junior middle school than in primary school. Conclusions Urine screening is an effective way to ifnd asymptomatic kidney disease and urinary tract infection. Follow-up should be strengthened.
4.HUCB-MSCs transplants promote neurological functional recovery after traumatic brain injury

Objective To locally inject human umbilical cord blood (HUCB) mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to rat traumatic brain injury (TBI) model to investigate expression of neural markers and neurological functional improvement. Methods HUCB-MSCs were labeled by bis-benzimide for over 24 hours and stereotactically transplanted into the brain of the rats. All rats were divided into four groups, ie, sham injury group, TBI group, control (TBI + PBS) group and treatment (TBI + MSCs) group, Im-munohistochemical methods and immanofluorescence staining were used to observe the survival, migration and differentiation of the transplanted cells. The neurological functional improvement was evaluated by u-sing the neurological severity score (NSS). Results There existed a large number of MSCs survived in local region of the brain that received transplants, when some MSCs differentiated into neurons or astro-cytes and expressed the neurocyte markers including NSE and GFAP around the grafted site. Treatment group had significantly improved scores compared with sham injury group, TBI group and control group. Conclusions HUCB-MSCs transplantation can potentially improve neurological functional after TBI and may be a good alternative to bone marrow cells for stem cell transplantation or cell therapy.
5.Research progress in expression of functional proteins in reflux esophagitis

Reflux esophagitis is a common type of gastroesophageal reflux disease.Its pathogenesis is not completely clear,but the body immunity,oxidative stress and chemical damage have gradually become the research focus.According to the latest research, the expressions of related proteins in reflux esophagitis provide a foundation for its pathogenesis. And some kinds of proteins can be used as monitoring index in the development process from reflux esophagitis to esophageal adenocarcinoma. This article is to review the expression and significance of proteins in reflux esophagitis in recent years.
6.Changes of urine enzyme series and analysis of the related factors in 4 clinical types of purpuric nephritis

When the typeⅢand type Ⅳglomerular function was changed (BUN and BCr in high value),the drainage quantity of the enzymes evidently increased.Conclusions Urine enzyme series can sensitively reflect the damage of renal tubules in early stage, even if BUN and BCr value is on the normal level , and the drainage quantity of these enzymes are changed more or less, which show that renal tubule damage exists. The value of BUN and BCr is positively correlated with the drainage quantity of these enzymes.the more urine enzymes are drained out, the more renal tubule function is involved, therefore, the more renal globe function is damaged.
7.Study on Inhibitory Effects Mechanism of Scallop Skirt Glycosaminoglycan on Oxidative Stress Injury in Vein Endothelium Cells Induced by OX-LDL

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the inhibitory effects mechanism of scallop skirt glycosaminoglycan(SS-GAG)on inju-ry in human umbilical vein endothelium cells (HUVEC). METHODS:In the test,there was a negative control group,a model group and the groups of SS-GAG at high,middle and low concentrations(mass concentrations of 200,100 and 50 mg/L respective-ly). The cells in latter 3 groups were cultured in SS-GAG at different mass concentrations for 12 h,and then in 50 μmol/L oxidized low-density lipoprotein(OX-LDL)for 24 h. MTT method was used to detect cell viability and the activity of lactic dehydrogenase (LDH),the flow cytometer to determine the level of reactive oxygen species (ROS),real-time fluorescence quantitative poly-merase chain reaction (RT-PCR) to detect mRNA expression of lectin-like oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor 1 (LOX-1), and Western blot to detect NOX4 protein expression. RESULTS:Compared to the cells in the negative control group,those in the model group demonstrated lower viability,higher activity of LDH,higher level of ROS,and stronger expressions of LOX-1 mRNA and NOX4 protein. There was statistical significance (P<0.01). Compared to the cells in the model group,those in the groups of SS-GAG at high,middle and low concentrations showed higher viability,lower activity of LDH,lower level of ROS and weaker expressions of LOX-1 mRNA and NOX4 protein. There was statistical significance (P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS:SS-GAG can protect HUVEC to some degree by a mechanism which may be related to inhibiting ROS production via LOX-1/NOX4 pathway and relieving oxidative stress injury.

9.Epidemiological study of chronic kidney disease with children of gender difference

Objective To investigate the positive ratio of urine and gender difference of chronic kidney disease(CKD) with children in Lanzhou,a heavy pollution and underdeveloped city in northwest of China.Methods Through the Multistix 10 SG,the morning urine of the children were detected,which aged from 12 to 13 years old.Results The positive ratio of urine was 14.9% in subjects,18.2% in girls and 12.8 % in boys respectively.Furthermore,the positive ratio in girls showed statistically significant higher than boy's.(x2 =21.77,P < 0.01).Espcially,the ratios of hematuria and pyuria significantly increased in girls (x2 =17.52,P < 0.01;x2=7.95,P < 0.01).Conclusion The gender difference of the positive rate of urine was existed in our large samples.And there is a higher prositive rate of hematuria and pyuria in the girls.This investigation will enrich the epidemiological data of CKD in children(12 ~ 13 years old)in Lanzhou city.
10.Application of surface enhanced laser desorption-ionization protein chip in judging injury severity of severe traumatic brain injury

Objective To judge injury severity of severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI) by using surface enhanced laser desorption-ionization (SELDI) protein chip technique. Methods Serum sam-ples from sTBI patients were used to detect expression of differential proteins by protein chip CM10 and SELDI to analyze the correlation between expression peak intensity and GCS. Results We obtained 101 protein peaks, with statistical difference upon expression of 27 protein peaks, when negative correla-tion was found between two peaks ( m/z 4 972 and m/z 5 322 ) and GCS score and positive correlation be-tween six peaks (m/z 3 941, m/z 4 295, m/z 8 714, m/z 8 792, m/z 14 020 and m/z 28 148) and GCS score. Conclusion SELDI protein chip technique may become a new and objective detection method in judging injury severity of sTBI.
