5.Pharmacocavernosography: Its Role in Impotence.

Cavernosography after injection of papaverine was done in 25 impotent patients who showed equivocal evidence for either psychogenic or organic erectile dysfunction and who were strongly suspicious of having vasculogenic impotence. Diagnostic value of the pharmacocavernosography was evaluated. Venous leakages through deep dorsal vein were noted in 13 patients, out of whom 3 patients showed leakage also via deep vein, abnormal cavernosal vein or cavernoso-glans fistula. All the arteriogenic and psychogenic, but 38.5% of the venogenic impotents, showed full erection at 30 seconds after infusion of contrast medium was begun. The response to injection of the papaverine was well correlated with findings of the cavernosogram in venogenic and psychogenic impotents. Therefore, the pharmacocavernosography is valuable in differential diagnosis of the venogenic and arteriogenic impotence as well as in diagnosis of the vasculogenic impotence.

7.Congenital absence of pectoralis major: a case report and isokinetic analysis of shoulder motion.

Although pectoralis major plays an important role as a prime or assistant mover for the varied range of shoulder movement, there was no significant functional loss in ordinary activities in case of congenital absence of this muscle, because of compensation of surrounding muscles. This report describes a 22-year-old soldier with unilateral congenital absence of pectoralis major, who had difficulties in specific upper extremity movement, such as throwing or climbing. There was no visible or radiological evidence of associated anomalies of ipsilateral upper extremity. Electrodiagnostic study showed normal findings except delayed latency of medial pectoral nerve supplying rudimentary pectoralis minor of the involved side. On isokinetic study of movement for both shoulders, peak torque and average power for horizontal adduction were markedly-diminished on the involved side.

9.Corporeal Blood Gases Study during Erection State in Arteriogenic Impotence.

Blood samples were taken for gases study (Po2, Pco2, pH, O2 saturation), simultaneously from corpus cavernosum, antecubital vein and femoral artery of 15 psychogenic impotent patients and 32 arteriogenic impotent patients 10 minutes after intracorporeal papaverine injection for artificial erection. The results were as follows: 1. In arteriogenic impotence, Po2, Pco2, O2 saturation of the corporeal blood were not significantly different from those of the femoral arterial blood but significantly different from those of the antecubital venous blood. 2. In psychogenic impotence, Po2, Pco2, O2 saturation of the corporeal blood were not significantly different from those of the femoral arterial blood but significantly different from those of the antecubital venous blood. 3. Po2, Pco2, O2 saturation of the femoral arterial, antecubital venous and corporeal blood in the arteriogenic impotence were not significantly different from those in the psychogenic impotence. Therefore, PO2, Pco2, O2 saturation of the corporeal blood during erection state are the picture of the arterial blood and not significantly different between the arteriogenic and psychogenic impotence.

10.The Effects of TGF-beta2 and bFGF on the Proliferation of Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells.

This study was undertaken to document the effect of transforming growth factor-beta2 (TGF-beta2(TGF-beta2) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) on the proliferation of pig retinal pigment epithelial cells (RPE). Whereas bFGF increased the proliferation, TGF-beta2 showed the inhibitory effect on the proliferation The inhibitory effect of TGF-beta2 disappeared in RPE subcultured with 10ng/ml of bFGF. Both TGF-beta2- and bFGF-specific antisense oligonucleotides blocked the autocrine effect of the growth factors. PLC-71 -specific antisense oligonucleotide inhibited the effect of TGF-beta2 and bFGF. Genistein inhibited the effect of TGF-beta2 and bFGF in dose-dependent man, ner. The data suggest the involvement. of in PLC-/1 and tyrosine kinase in signalling.
