2.Effects of Cochlear Implants on Tone Production in Hearing-impaired Children
Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2012;18(4):365-368
Objective To analyze the influence of cochlear implant age, sexuality, and rehabilitation time on tone recognition ability. Methods 272 hearing-impaired children aged 2~6 years old with cochlear implants were enrolled in the study. By three factors mixed design, the sexuality, age and rehabilitation time of the children (independent variable) and the tone recognition rate (dependent variable) wereanalyzed. Results The rehabilitation time and age had significantly main effect in tone recognition rate (P<0.001), but age (P>0.05). The interactionof rehabilitation time and age also had main effect (P<0.001). Conclusion Age and rehabilitation time are important factors fortone recognition ability. The younger the children are, the better the recognition ability is with the extension of rehabilitation time.

Objective To explore the death distribution characteristics of heart disease and the strategies for its prevention and control, based on data of the death rates of different heart diseases among the residents of Henan province from 1987 to 2006. Methods The mortality rates of heart diseases during past 20 years were analyzed by age, sex, living places (urban vs. rural), and by patterns of heart disease as well with SAS9.1. Results In these past 20 years, the mortality rates of heart diseases ranged from 60.93 to 85.10 per 100 000. The annual mortality rate averaged 74.47 per 100 000, and the standardized mortality rate was 61.10 per 100 000, which equaled to 13.14% of the total death number. The death rates of heart diseases had increased significantly with age. Among the male and female of the cities or the rural, the death was mainly due to coronary heart disease. Concludes According to the death distribution characteristics of heart diseases in Henan Province, the prevention and control efforts should focus on the population over 35 years of age.

Objective To estimate the death number of children under age 5 in Linzhou city during 2004 to 2005 using the capture-recapture method, and to evaluate the integrality of data about the children death report in all death cause registry. Methods The data of children death were collected from sources of registry office, village symposium for the 3rd national death cause survey and police registries. Cases in every source were matched on the name, sex, age, date of death, cause of death and resident address. To fit for dependencies and heterogeneities between three sources, a log-linear model in stratified age and gender was used to estimate the death number of children which did not appear in three sources. Results It was reported that death number of children under age 5 was 359 and the mortality was 2.16% for combined three sources; but from the registry office, the number and mortality were 291 and 1.75%, respectively. The capture-recapture method estimated that the number of death was 398 and the mortality was 2.39%. Under-reporting rates of registry and aggregate database were 26.9% and 9.8%. Female deaths were more likely to go unreported. Under-reporting rates of registry got higher with the decrease of the age at death. Conclusion Registry office or aggregated database underestimated the death number of children under age 5. On the base of data which were collected from police, village and registry, using the capture-recapture method can adjust the death number of children.

Objective To assess the hearing, language and intelligence in prelingually deafened children with multichannel cochlear implant ,and to analysie the basic pattern of speech recognition and language development. Methods 42 prelingually deafened children with cochlear implant participated in this study. The “Evaluating method on hearing and language rehabilitation in deafened children” was used as test material. Results The average hearing of these deafened children with cochlear implant was 35 dB HL.The correct recognition rate and language ability were escalating with prolonging the implanted time. Subjects showing significant progress half year after operation indicated that the cochlear implant could promote prelingually deafened children to develop their hearing and language level. Conclusion With scientific and systemic rehabilitation training, prelingually deaf children, who have ordinary intelligence, will have significant progress half year after the operation.

Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2013;19(11):1024-1028
Objective To revise the assessment of consonant vowel and tone recognition for cochlear implanted children. Methods 300 normal hearing children aged 2~6 years old were assessed with word lists for consonant and vowel recognition, and analysed with equivalency analysis. Results The incidence of consonant vowel and tone recognition was less than 90% in children aged 2~3 years old, but more than 90% in those aged 3 or more. Conclusion The assessment of consonant vowel and tone recognition for cochlear implanted children aged of 3 and above has been modified, and the assessment for those aged 2~3 years old has been developed.
